The 9-inch Freud LU88R009 Thin Kerf Fine Finish Crosscut Saw Blade delivers quick, smooth crosscuts in hard- and softwoods and moldings--even when you're using an underpowered saw. Its alternating top bevel teeth feature thick TiCo high-density carbide tips designed to last. And thanks to Freud's Perma-SHIELD coating, which reduces friction to prevent heat build-up, it pulls less than traditional blades and allows for more powerful cutting.

Thin-Kerf and ATB Teeth for Fine Finishes with Underpowered Saws
A versatile blade that delivers the fine finish you need for decorative moldings and other precision work, this thin-kerf crosscut saw blade offers a configuration with 54 alternating-top-bevel (ATB) teeth and positive hook angles. This means it provides you with smoother cuts, and it can handle fast feed rates.

It's ideal for crosscutting hard- or softwoods that are 1/2 to 2-3/4 inches thick, and it also provides good results when cutting plywood and chipboard or when ripping wood. The blade can also handle laminate, and it can tackle thinner or thicker materials. However, some loss of surface finish may occur when it is used outside its ideal range. It has a 5/8-inch arbor and produces a 0.090 kerf.

Plus, because this thin-kerf blade removes less material than standard carbide blades, it wastes less material and requires less horsepower to produce smooth, clean results.

Well-Balanced, Anti-Vibration Design
This Freud blade is precision balanced and pretensioned for truer cuts under heavy loads. It also features laser-cut, anti-vibration slots that reduce chatter for a cleaner finish, longer blade life, and reduced noise while you work. And because the entire blade is laser cut from high-strength steel, you can trust that it will stay stable, flat, and true, even after prolonged use.

High-Density Carbide for Maximum Cutting Performance
This crosscutting saw blade's 54 teeth are finished with tips made from Freud's application-specific TiCo high-density carbide "crosscut blend." Formulated to help the blade maintain a sharp cutting edge in the face of demanding crosscut applications, this blend is extra hard--due to including more high-density tungsten carbide than other TiCo blends--and it still offers the full mix of improved corrosion resistance, heat resistance, and impact resistance that you expect from TiCo.

With teeth that start out sharper and deliver improved edge retention, the blade can go longer between sharpening, and will hold up longer--saving you time and money.

Perma-SHIELD Coating Reduces Friction and Heat Buildup
Built to withstand tough use in less-than-ideal conditions, this blade is finished with Freud's red Perma-SHIELD--a non-stick coating that reduces friction and nearly eliminates the heat buildup that excess friction can cause. By providing complete thermal insulation, this coating protects your tools and your work surface. And it resists binding when the blade is used for large-volume cutting applications, which reduces blade warp.

As a lubricating feature, Perma-SHIELD allows the blade to spin freely while reducing stress on the motor and carriage of your saw. In addition, this coating helps prevent debris collection and resin or "pitch" buildup. Since gummy pitch buildup causes extra drag on the motor of your saw, less buildup is another little convenience that translates into longer tool life and longer blade life. It also means less downtime for blade cleaning, so you get jobs done faster.

This industrial saw blade is backed by Freud's limited lifetime warranty.

Freud's industrial saw blades are carefully crafted using the best materials, the most innovative designs, and the industry's most sophisticated manufacturing processes. Every blade is specifically designed for superior performance and maximum life. Select the best blade for your application from a wide variety of designs and sizes, all featuring Freud's unique coatings and TiCo Hi-Density Carbide.

TiCo Hi-Density carbide is a specially formulated, highly compact Titanium Cobalt Carbide engineered and manufactured by Freud to maximize performance on all Freud cutting tools. Designed in Freud research and development laboratories, Freud's TiCo Hi-Density carbide is scientifically developed using Titanium Carbide, Cobalt and Tungsten (as well as proprietary elements), to produce a supreme product. Carbide size is extremely important when it comes to sharpness as well as the rate at which an edge wears. The larger the carbide grain, the faster an edge will wear. While standard carbides measure as large as 5 microns, and an advanced micrograin carbide can measure 1 micron, Freud's TiCo Hi-Density Carbide is miniscule in comparison at .8 microns, with a laminate blend as small as .4 microns.

I've been an amateur woodworker for 25 years and in the last 5 or 6 years gotten into more and more projects that require the "right tools". I bought this blade 4 years ago when it first went on sale in our local area and I love it! Cuts whatever I feed into it with no difficulty and leaves a glass smooth edge. A little pricy in my local area to sharpen but that's life.

At this point all my blades are Freud and I'm a cheap SOB at heart so that's saying a lot.

Jim - a frugal New England woodworker

Most high quality crosscut blades cut cleanly but fall short in their ability to rip well or handle thick stock. The LU88 has some general purpose capabilities that many crosscut blades don't. It's tooth geometry features ATB carbide and a 15 degree hook angle that allow it to rip materials up to about 6/4" thick. Most crosscut blades have a very low or even a negative hook angle, which provides a polished edge, but it also causes burning on almost any rip cuts. The LU88 is alot more versatile than most crosscut blades and cuts just a bit cleaner than my Forrest WWII. If you don't need to do alot of heavy ripping with it, I think you could do nicely using just this one blade. It's thin kerf design makes life pretty easy on my saw's motor too. Very nice blade, and priced pretty reasonably.

I'm finding this blade tough to beat for the price. Crosscuts are easily as clean as my Forrest's at about half the price, and it rips better than other crosscut blades I've used. In fairness, my Forrest rips thick material better. The LU88 has large teeth, Frued's best carbide, anti-vibration slots, and teflon coating. Great for crosscutting and general purpose use on a TS, but I wouldn't recommend it for a CMS or RAS because of the aggressive hook angle.

We have an OLD dewalt radial arm saw that is underpowered. We read that this blade is specifically designed for underpowered saws. It is thinner and has a narrower kerf which means it has less wood to remove to make a cut. We read about this in a magazine that gave it a thumbs up, and we concur. It exceeded our expectations. We were cutting walnut and Brazilian Teak (aka cumaru), which is second on the wood hardness scale at our local flooring company. I expected burning and hesitation/choking on the part of the saw. It cut beautifully despite the difficult wood. No burning at all, no hesitation on the part of the saw. I will continue to get this blade and in fact am looking for one for my chop saw.

I reccomend this product to a hobbiest with a 1 HP saw. It gave me very clean cross cuts. It requires much less feed pressure than any other blades I've used. If you want quality cuts from a low powered saw, this is the blade for you.

This is the first Teflon Coated blade I purchsed, and not the last. It offers a great cut in my Delta Contractor saw. It compares to blades costing twice as much. Highly recomended if you're using a smaller HP saw. O-clearance inserts help too.

I've been using my DeWalt 9" radial arm saw since 1959 when my dad bought it for me for Christmas. I was 12 years old.
I love wood working and I have lugged my DeWalt with me where ever I lived. Over those years saw blade technology has improved many times.
Well, with the advent of this Freud LU88R saw blade, I don,t see how blades can get any better, except, maybe, for laser wood cutting some day.
This Diablo blade leaves all the other saw blades in the dust (pun intended). It is extemely quiet, doesn't "sing" at all when not cutting. And, boy, does it cut. Zips through mahogany and oak like butter. It cuts so well I had to show it to my wife (like she should care).
I recommend that you buy two so you always have a really sharp cross-cut blade to use.
