Wonderful romantic comedy plus poignant family drama, September 13, 2007
This review is from: Freud Leaving Home [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I saw this film in San Francisco during the Jewish Film Festival around 1991. 'Freud' is the nickname of a young woman in a Jewish family living in Stockholm. (Swedish with subtitles.) She has the nickname because of her many problems, which include never having had a boyfriend and already in her 30's (or so). By accident she falls into a romantic tryst with a hunky biker type. While this is going on the Mother in the family is dying of cancer, various family member's conflicts are coming to a head, and each is examining their Jewishness or lack thereof. There are huge laughs and major weepy scenes as well.
