Book Description

In the snowy highlands of Ysland, Freya's sister is attacked by a diseased creature. Now, Freya has only a few hours to find a cure before her sister becomes a monstrous fox demon.

With her husband Erik and the young witch Wren, Freya explores deserted cities full of ghosts, meets lonely survivors on the edge of madness, and finally seeks answers in Rekavik where she meets the witch queen Skadi and her cruel warrior Leif Blackmane. Freya learns that the only person who can cure the demon plague is a certain traveler from a distant land, but he was murdered five years ago...

Viking warriors and ravening demons threaten her on all sides, but not even death itself will stop Freya from saving the people she loves.

Book 2: Freya the Huntress
Book 3: Wren the Fox Witch

I've been waiting for Europa #2 for awhile. Having Omar stuck on Ysland I couldn't wait to find out more about the sun steel. Mr. Lewis has definitely created a mythology with this metal and you can't help but want to know more about it. What's even better, the stories are not about the sun steel but you get tidbits of it throughout this and all the Other Earth books.

I really enjoy the effort Mr. Lewis has put in to even using small language elements to immerse yourself in the environment more. The way the characters speak feel different on Ysland as opposed to the mainland. Given that the first book, Omar, were all characters from the mainland, this is the first time that the difference becomes apparent.

Love the new characters. Freya is now the second best bad-ass heroine next to Asha. Can't wait for the third book. We get a mythological werefox and based on the teaser for Book 3 something that sounds like frozen zombies.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dark fantasy January 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This extremely enjoyable fantasy adventure with elements of horror and plenty of action continues the Other Earth story started in Europa book 1, Omar (The Lost Airship). As with all Lewis' work, strong characterization and setting make the story come to life. Clear descriptions and crisp dialog move an interesting plot along.

By keeping the plot clear and the cast of characters manageable, Lewis creates a lean fantasy not overburdened with unnecessary detail, plot lines, and characters, avoiding the pitfalls of too many of today's fantasy works.

By adding elements of horror and romance to the story, Lewis continues to grow as a writer and strengthens his already impressive story telling ability.

4.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing March 20, 2013

I have read a few novels by this author and must admit that of them all, this one was my favourite! The characters were absolutely fantastic and I couldn't help but love them. I enjoyed Wren's humourous rants to Woden, Erik's strength and love for his wife, Omar's quirky personality, and, most of all, Freya's brave and intelligent approach to the dilemmas she had to face. The plot kept me reading and I had to finish the book in one sitting. Definitely a must for fans of fantasy!
