Poetic, Powerful, and Passionate...Just Like the Author,

This review is from: Frida: Viva La Vida! Long Live Life! (Hardcover)
I came to this book with a bit of awareness about Frida Kahlo. I'm familiar with some of her art, her rocky romance with Diego Rivera, and the 2002 film produced by Selma Hayek. However, from the moment I glimpsed the bright orange cover with the hot pink end papers, I knew this book was going to bring more color and depth to what I think I know about Frida Kahlo.
Carmen T. Bernier-Grand did not disappoint. The biographical poems she wrote detailing Frida's life from her own point of view enriched and expanded my knowledge. Thanks to the level of detail she shared from her research, I was no longer just observing Frida Kahlo's life from a distance; I was experiencing her joys, her pains, her betrayals, and her ability to forgive right along with her. Reading this book has been a profound journey that I hope more readers and Kahlo fans will embark upon. It's easy, just pick up a copy of Frida, Viva La Vida! by Carmen T. Bernier Grand. |
