Product Description

UK NTSC/Region 0 DVD Pressing. For four decades Frida’s distinctive voice has mesmerized us in everything from 60s schlager, to big band jazz in which her voice hits notes with precision, elegance and skill, to ABBA’s decade-long international success with Frida and Agnetha’s voices creating unique resonance, to her work post-ABBA and the release of three very different and exciting albums in the 80s and 90s. This year Frida celebrates her 60th birthday with the release of this special box set collection of her four solo albums and DVD (NTSC/Region 0). Recorded in 1975 as Frida was in the middle of her ABBA career, Frida Ensam was influenced by the ABBA sound and included the Björn and Benny-penned 'Fernando' in Swedish, a song that would later become a staple of ABBA’s repertoire. Following ABBA’s breakup in 1982, Frida recorded 'Something’s Going On' in Polar Studios with Phil Collins. The album was a huge success. In 1984 Frida teamed up with another talented Englishman, Steve Lilywhite, behind the mixer. The result was the innovative, very modern 'Shine'. In 1996 Frida recorded her most recent album, Djupa Andetag, in Swedish with producer Anders Glenmark. From the breathtaking Swiss Alps, Frida shares with us her thoughts on her influences, musical role models, fans, her development and her private life and their impact on her 40-year music career. The DVD contains over three hours of clips from Swedish television appearances as well as videos spanning Frida’s career, and her work with Phil Collins and other international stars. Follow Frida from her 1967 debut and breakthrough in Hylands hörna to her favorite club in Zermatt in the summer of 2005. Polar. 2005.

3.0 out of 5 stars A convenient but expensive collection, July 15, 2008
By Andre LeBlanc (North Dakota) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I purchased this box set after becoming an ABBA fan. I didn't own any of Frida's solo work and saw this as a convenient opportunity to get her solo collection (minus the "1967-1972" set) in one shot. The four solo CDs are excellent, as expected. However, the bonus DVD was a bit disappointing. It promotes 3 hours of material. However, the great majority of this is interview footage that is not particularly informative or interesting. There is also an extensive documentary on the making of the "Something's Going On" album. This focuses largely on Phil Collins' production work on the album. It was interesting hearing Frida talk about how Phil Collins' work at the time was theraputic in helping her get through a difficult divorce. However, the documentary was just too long and overblown. "Something's Going On" is a good album, but it's not "Hotel California" or "Sgt. Pepper's" caliber. There are many early and rare performance and video clips (pre-ABBA) on the DVD. However, they are typically short (2 minutes or less) or edited. It does include all her 80s videos, which are nice to have. However, the biggest problem I have is the price. I'm not sure this set is worth the close to $100 price that it typically goes for. I think you can find the four CD's in this set individually for much less (especially if you go on eBay). I'm skeptical that the DVD is worth the difference. But if you're a "hard core" Frida fan, I wouldn't discourage you from purchasing this set either.

4.0 out of 5 stars Frida Box Set, January 27, 2009
I purchased the Frida box set because I wanted the bonus tracks that are not on any of her CD's such as The Sun Will Shine Again.

The one disappointment for me was that most of the DVD dialog and interviews are not in English. There is one interview with Frida's friend Hans, who speaks English, but this is not a solid English interview; his comments are interspersed with Frida's Swedish. I'm blind and cannot read subtitles, so I was also disappointed that I couldn't get the Audio Languages feature to work.

Overall, though, I enjoy the music and think that it is a great collection for any avid Frida or ABBA fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deep breathing., September 21, 2008
Frida is my favourite ABBA's singer. Her voice is stronger than Agneta's voice and you don't need to turn off the volume when she get the highest notes. Here we have four solo albums and one DVD. "Frida Ensam" is a good album, more than it seems, it has good songs and arrangements. "Something..." is specially good and you'll notice why Frida is a very good singer if you compare "You know what I meen" Frida's version with Collins' version. There are songs by Brian Ferry, Moroder, etc. "Shine" is a good pop-album too, but "Djupa" is the best album here. So, if you haven't the stupid prejudice against ABBA's simplity , you can enjoy this Box-Set and you will discover that Frida is musically
more ambitious than it seemed. The DVD have many curiosities and shows Frida's hard work before (and after) ABBA.
