3.0 out of 5 stars Wholesale slaughter at its finest
Hate-Kill-Repeat more than delivers in the categories of bloodletting and classic Jason action. Arnopp keeps our man Voorhees true to form and has him mow down dozens of diverse characters, each of whom has his or her own little story. It's obvious that the book had to be padded a bit to meet the insane word count, but Arnopp manages to do so, for the most part, by piling...

Hayley "Halo" Harlan is a pregnant nineteen-year-old lady with an abusive boyfriend who has yet to find out he will soon be a father. Halo dreads the thought of telling him too. Trey wants nothing to do with changing diapers. The world MUST revolve around him! (Or so his ego thinks.) Halo decides to wait until after their weekend camping trip with some friends at Crystal Lake.

Norwood and Penelope Thawn may be married and may look like respectable upper crust members of society, but in truth they are serial killers on a bloody crusade. When ever they spy someone committing a sin, Norwood and Penelope redeem the sinner by sending him to Hades with their blessings. The couple head to Crystal Lake in hopes of recruiting Jason Vorhees, who they believe is on the same crusade. The FBI is hot on their trail, but the Thawns believe God is on their side.

As for Jason, he is IN Crystal Lake, at the bottom. He would probably have stayed that way too, if some police divers had not seen a head sticking up from the lake floor and proceeded to dig up the body.

***** Lots of blood. Lots of gore. Lots of death. Hey, this is a "Friday the 13th" novel. What else would it be like? So this is PERFECT for all Jason fans. Recommended! *****

4.0 out of 5 stars Hate-Kill-Repeat...Jason's Back!, June 26, 2006
This review is from: Friday The 13th 3: Hate-Kill-Repeat (Mass Market Paperback)
Jason Arnopp gets big snaps for doing his homework, as hate kill repeat is a nice piece of the puzzle as far as the movies are concerned. This book picks up right after the events in Friday the 13th Part VII: the New Blood where Tina shepard summons her long dead father from the lake to throw chairs around Jason a pull him down into its murky depths. Excellent! And thats where they find him, buried up to his neck at the bottom of Crystal lake. I also liked that Arnopp mentions some of the Events in Friday the 13th VI: Jason Lives, in that Sheriff Garris got folded in half, and that the good folks of Crystal Lake changed the name to Forest Green.
So a couple of Moral crusaders go on a killing spree headed for crystal lake to try to join up with Jason, yeah o.k., you read how that comes out. I'll give you ten guesses but you're only going to need one. Beside the thin plot, and some stereo type characters the action in this book are fast, and at times very graphic. Watch out folks the body count is off the charts! The trade off between characters and situations are very smooth, Arnopp keeps the action going. This book did surprise me with a little bit of a twist near the end. The other thing I liked about this book was that not only did it pick up where movie #7 left of, it also eludes to what happens in the beginning of Jason goes to Hell. I would have given this book one more star for a perfect score, but some of the characters I thought were just a little to cheesy. Bottom Line....Highly entertaining!

5.0 out of 5 stars Jason is back!, January 3, 2006

This review is from: Friday The 13th 3: Hate-Kill-Repeat (Mass Market Paperback)
FRIDAY THE 13th 3: Hate - Kill - Repeat by Jason Arnopp is the story of a sophisticated couple, the Thawns, who are members of a cult called the Redeemers whose mission is to rid the world of sinners. They are on their way to Crystal Lake to connect with Jason Voorhees. They feel that Jason has a lot in common with them since the teenagers he kills are sinners engaging in promiscuity, drugs and drinking. Along the way, the Thawns commit many murders. Among the people they kill are some drunks having a threesome in a motel room, a slimy executive and the receptionist he was having an affair with and a female gas station attendant who 'came on' to Ms. Thawn. They also attempt to kill a pregnant girl from a trailer park. FBI agents Daimler and van Stadt are hot on their trail. Of course, Jason isn't helping matters any with his bloody killing sprees at the lake.

From the very first page, the book grabbed my attention. It is filled with fascinating characters, tense scenes and earth shaking terror. The plot is so twisted that the ending is a big surprise. Even if you don't particularly care for horror, the mystery of this one plus wondering how all this can possibly end will suck you in anyway.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hate-Kill- Jason Arnopp Please Repeat, January 10, 2006
This review is from: Friday The 13th 3: Hate-Kill-Repeat (Mass Market Paperback)
First off, this book is a huge improvement from the last Friday the 13th novel "Hell Lake." This book has compelling characters and a plot that is both coherent and appropriate to the setting of novels and movies. This book takes place directly after the events shown in the movie Friday the 13th Part VII - The New Blood and ends with a perfect lead into Friday the 13th - Jason Goes to Hell. The story revolves around a pair of serial killers who believe they are killing immoral sinners, just as their hero Jason Vorhees. The pair take-off on a cross country killing spree to meet their idol: mayhem ensues. Jason is portrayed as a one tracked mind killing machine that will stop at nothing to engage his prey. I think that out of all the Jason novels thus far, this author best captured the essence of the Jason Vorhees character. My only gripe about this book is that the death toll rivals that of a small metropolitan community. I lost count after 20 murders and I wasn't halfway through the book. The deaths do get a bit excessive toward the end and I must admit I skimmed over a dozen or so deaths at the end. The final confrontations are well played out and worth your time. Enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Friday the 13th Part 7.25, December 29, 2005
This review is from: Friday The 13th 3: Hate-Kill-Repeat (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is set to take place after the events of Part 7 involving Tina Shepard. I would place it as taking place after Part 7 but before the book, "F13: Church of the Divine Psychopath". Quick synopsis here: Police divers attempt to recover Jason from the bottom of Crystal Lake at the urgings of Tina Shepard - nice return from the grave set up for Jason. Holier-than-thou spree killers Norwood and Penelope Thawn are killing their way to Crystal Lake to link up with like minded sin avenger Jason - of course this doesn't work out for them. Throw in the female 'hero' of Halo, the savior Tom, a new hotel on Crystal Lake (renamed Clear Waters now), some FBI agents chasing the Thawns, and turn Jason loose for some murder and dismemberment.

Again here's another novel that could be easily turned into a screenplay with small changes. You could do without the whole Thawn storyline but it works well enough. The Redeemer organization they belong to can then lead into the Church of the Righteous Vessel in the 'Psychopath' book. There's some good gorey deaths and Jason stays fairly true to his development through the movies. It's an acceptable book for fans but let's face it, it's not Steinbeck so don't expect deep plots or anything. Good straight forward Friday the 13th stuff here for the fans. If you're not a fan of the franchise, it's best to just skip the books which are written for the fans and not for the masses.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hate-Kill-Repeat, Jason Arnopp, April 2, 2008
This review is from: Friday The 13th 3: Hate-Kill-Repeat (Mass Market Paperback)
Friday The 13th 3: Hate-Kill-Repeat (Friday the 13th) This is, for the most part, an enjoyable book. I enjoyed the plot twist of the two additional killers, the Thorps. I liked how their hypocrisy was highlited. I also liked how in-character Jason for the most part was. Additionally, there was a moment between Jason and Halo, the main protagonist, that I found extremely sweet. It is a book I would probably read again, and I don't consider it a waste of money.

However, there were two things I didn't like; first, when Jason runs into a family of campers, the author implies that he kills the children along with the parents. I find this out-of-character, since Jason NEVER kills the children in the movies. Second, the author had the oportunity to take this book in a unique direction, and didn't. If Jason had known Halo was pregnant, I don't think he would have continued chasing her. This would have made a very interesting contribution to this series. In the end, it was a typical 'Friday the 13th' book, and it could have been more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sensational Alternative Sequel to Jason Takes Manhattan for Friday the 13th Part 7, March 6, 2007

This review is from: Friday The 13th 3: Hate-Kill-Repeat (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the third of the 25th anniversary celebration novels that I have read and the most similar to the original movie concept of the three. Non of these novels (there were five released at the time of this review) are related to each other, you do not need to read them in any particular order. The only thing I would recommend though just so you can fully appreciate the start of this one is to watch the movie Friday the 13th part 7 as this novel's scenario for Jason reappearing at Camp Crystal Lake relates to divers finding his body to prove claims of the victims from that movie to get them out of jail. Even if you haven't seen that though, this is still a great read.

In Hate-Kill-Repeat Jason Voorhees is dug out of his muddy grave at the bottom of Camp Crystal Lake by police divers. He immediately makes up for lost time, slicing, chopping, stabbing and disembowelling everyone he comes across. Rumours of his return appear in the papers and even though Camp Crystal Lake is closed by the police many choose to simply ignore the closure dismissing Jason as just a legendary tale of past generations. A massive hotel at the edge of the lake (although you do wonder why Jason has never visited here before since it just a short stroll from Camp Crystal summer camp) is also having a convention with workers and those staying there not expecting an uninvited guest. The hotel has two guests who aren't opposed to murder themselves, having left quite a trail of victims in their wake. They have extremely high morals and see themselves as professionals, two of the weapons of ridding America of its sin. They believe Jason to be a kindred spirit holding the same beliefs they do and that they will all team up together for their crusade. What they of course don't release is that compared to Jason they are really just amateurs at this game.

Although all the novels in this series vary greatly in topics and quality (some such as The Jason Strain deviate substantially from the usual format) they are all still good reads and anyone who is a fan of the great hockey mask wearing mass murderer will want to check them all out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Friday the Thirteenth Part 7 1/2, February 8, 2007
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Friday The 13th 3: Hate-Kill-Repeat (Mass Market Paperback)
Just want to let the fans know about great continuity this novel has with the movie series. In fact it bridges the very poor continuity that occurs between parts 7 and 8. Fans have long complained about the continuity gaffs
between these two chapters. Part 7 ends with Jason rotted, roasted and mostly unclothed being dragged through
a hole in the dock by John Shepard's ghost. Part 8 picked up with a much less rotted Jason (his Corey Feldman inflicted machette head wound and exposed bones have healed over) pinned beneath a sunken dock and sporting a brand new wardrobe including a Blue workshirt, Unionsuit, gray pants and a nifty set of Black leather gloves. Guess they thought nobody would notice. Well, we did. This novel clears up some of this. It picks up about two days after part 7, it does not take place in the late eighties and seems more modern, which makes sense since there were supposed to be some big jumps in time between parts 4-5-6-7. (hear that timeline makers) Jason is revived, still in his burned state, and quickly aquires a new mask and gloves. The rest of the book is an original story that is quite good. Arnopp takes into account the litle details that the producers of the movies overlooked. The ending doesnt tie directly in to part 8 but has Jason still on the loose
and leaves room for other adventures before he is finally sent back to the bottom of Christal Lake and his eventual siling trip on board the Lazaras.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hate Kill Repeat, one of teh better Friday the 13th Books, November 9, 2006
This review is from: Friday The 13th 3: Hate-Kill-Repeat (Mass Market Paperback)
I just want to start off by saying I am a big fan of the horror genre and also of the Friday the 13th franchise. That being said, I went into reading this book not expecting much of it, because let's face it, a lot of these movies are campy and cheesy and we basically watch for the violence unleashed by Jason. I imgined the book would lack the visual, and would consist soley of a cheesy horror factor. I was wrong. Very good candidate to be made into an actual Friday the 13th sequel. The story line was strong and characters quite vivid. It did have its moment of predictability and corny-ness, but than again, which Firday the 13th movie doesn't. Overall a very good book if put up against any other book in the series. Another bonus was the author's knowledge of the franchise and storyline of previous Friday the 13th novels. This one takes place shortly after Friday the 13th part 7: A New Blood and his mention of characters and places from the film are dead on.

4.0 out of 5 stars Blood, Gore, Cha-Cha-Cha-KILL,KILL,KILL, August 23, 2006
This review is from: Friday The 13th 3: Hate-Kill-Repeat (Mass Market Paperback)
If you are a Friday the 13th fan, this book will meet your expectations. Jason never dies and the body count grows as you move further in the book. The books in this series seem to get better with some of the newer releases (3,4 and 5 are the best so far).
