Product Description

From the Manufacturer

It's a pretty typical summer at Crystal Lake. There's a group of happy children staying in the Camp. You and your six camp counselor friends are watching over the kids while enjoying the lake and the wilderness. The days are bright and sunny. The nights are cool and clear. And Jason is on a rampage.

It's up to you to stop him, but it's not going to be easy. You must first fight your way through forests filled with man-eating wolves, caves covered with blood sucking bats and hordes of mindless zombies everywhere you turn. You must also help any friend who is in danger, or else you can just kiss them goodbye. And hiding in a cabin or staying adrift in a canoe won't keep you safe--Jason will find you anywhere. The only way to survive this summer is to challenge Jason face to face, and destroy him.

The object of the game is simple, you must stay alive long enough to find a way to defeat Jason once and for all. To do this requires nerves of steel as you explore Crystal Lake Campground, encountering its many hidden dangers, and searching for the weapons and other items you will need to accomplish your fearful task.

Friday the 13th is made up of three kinds of screens. The map screen shows the location of the counselors during the game. The side view screen is used when exploring outside and the interior screen is used when exploring inside a room.

You switch back and forth between the 6 different counselors as you explore and battle your way around the cabins and trails of Crystal Lake. You have to find and equip the counselors with weapons and other power items you find along the way. Once you gather enough, you can turn the tables on Jason and begin to hunt him.

Product Description

Friday the 13th is an action game for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), and is regarded as a cult classic among video game fans. Though the game is based off the of film series of the same name, you wouldn’t know it… You play as one of several camp counselors who must try and defeat Jason before he kills any of the other camp counselors or campers! A timer will appear that tells you how much time you have before Jason kills somebody. On top of having to worry about Jason, you’ll have to deal with zombies, wolves, and crows, none of which were in any of the movies… Collectors should definitely check out this title, as it has acquired quite a reputation over the internet.

5.0 out of 5 stars The closest you'll ever get to an encounter with Jason, February 3, 2006
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Friday the 13th (Video Game)
What keeps Nintendo games popular is their charm. Friday the 13th on the NES is no exception. The idea of playing a Nintendo game where you battle the most iconic monster from the 80's is just plain awesome. If you read reviews elsewhere of this game, most people hate it. They say it is too frustrating and practically impossible to beat. But, if you stop and think about it, there are plenty of classic Nintendo games that are next to impossible to beat. (Ninja Gaiden, Contra and Super C come to mind.) But if you give Friday, the same patience as these classics, you'll find just how much fun the game is.

You start out with 6 counselors and one direction: "Light the fireplaces with the torch". The fireplaces are found in the large cabins. After you kill some zombies, (the rocks are effective as long as you duck when you throw) get the lighter and start lighting fireplaces, notes begin to appear. If you follow these notes and do what they say, you'll receive the most powerful weapon in the game.

However, during this time Jason constantly pops up and tries to attack everyone in the camp, counselors and children included. You must rush to their rescue otherwise Jason will kill them. Once your friends or the kids are dead, the game ends.

This game is sufficiently scary. The cabin explorations scenes are pretty creepy at night with spine tingling music added to up the scare factor. The first time I encountered Jason in a cabin, I actually jumped. But the attacks don't stop there. Jason will attack you on the path, in the woods, and on the lake. As a fan of the Friday movies, you'll realize just how close the game follows the movies.

At first glance the game may appear frustrating, but as you play it more, you realize just how strategic of a game it actually is. You must use all the counselors together to help defeat Jason. You need to have a plan to beat him. It's not just a hack and slash type game.

Friday the 13th is my favorite game for the NES. If you're a fan of the movies, you'll probably like it. If you hate the Friday's, then you probably won't like it. I think it's a classic NES game and would rank it right at the top.

it's so fun to play.I've never been able to beat Jason, but it's fun.Jason is as hard to kill in this game as he is in the films. You have to save the childern and your follow counselors before Jason does them in.Alot of people don't like this game, for the fact you can't beat it.Well I can't beat it and I still love it.

Throw the manual away on this one. This game has a lot of moving parts. confusing at first. Worst part about this game is that the good weapons are really hard to get, and sometimes not worth the time wasted trying to get them. And those pesky kids at the lake won't quit crying!! But you gotta take care of them or else a short game will end. Weapons: The rock and Torch are the only weapons that will hurt Jason in the water. The Torch is the hardest weapon to get. It can be obtained in the very first round if you work hard for it. Here's how you get it.....maybe next time I'll tell you. Ha! The Pitchfork is the best weapon hands down. You get it after defeating Jason's Mom in the cave, in the third round. Jason's Mom in the third round is very, very Violent=No push over!! Don't lose the pitchfork after you earn it, by jumping around carelessly in your travels. The pesky kids won't quit crying. Use counselor 'Mark' for his super boating skills to get to the kids when time is short. Items: The sweater you get after defeating Jason's Mom in the second round. It only lessens damage Jason inflicts on your armorless body, and of course it's a Neon sweater. Oh,forgot to tell you that Jason's Mom is tougher and faster in the second round. The flashlight is a usefull item to have as you navigate the Cave. It however does takes a lot of work to get it. Avoid the woods in the south as there is nothing of value to be had there. The endless challenges of this game make it a Favorite.
