this movie had what the sequels missed out on, smokey. he pretty much made the first movie. such memorable lines in this movie at such quantities, it's hard not to like it. "how do you get fired on your day off?" "what you stealin boxes for, you tryin to build a clubhouse?" i have seen this movie at least 100 times and still never grow tired of it. whenever i can't think of anything else to watch, friday creeps up and inserts itself into the dvd player. great great movie.

of course deebo was a great villian. there is allways that big @ss thug that wants to prove that noone can step up to him. what a better person to play that role then tom 'tiny' lister jr. maybe that guy from the green mile. chris tucker was absolutely amazing as a pothead. i don't think anyone could have pulled that role off better then him. ice cube did a great job as craig and i don't know who played as mrs. parker, but she did a good job too. then you have the corrupt preacher played by bernie mac. hillarious movie from beginning to end especially when they did the flashback scenes with smokey taking a hit of angel dust and finding himself in deebos chicken coop.

this movie had one of the best soundtracks ever put together. everything from ice cube and cypress hill to rick james and 2 live crew. best placement in the movie for the soundtrack had to be when craigs girlfriend got out of the car all pissed off and hoochie mamma was playing in the background. the best hood classic ever.

This is THE funniest comedy I have ever seen. I agree with another reviewer: I can watch this movie a million times and never tire of it. It gets funnier and funnier each time.
Tucker stole the show as Smokey, who sells pot but who also smokes it and it's that love that causes him trouble in the middle of the film. But it's his lines and his mannerisms as Smokey that make him hilarious.
One of my favorite parts is where Rita pulls up to meet Smokey for a blind date. Rita, who said she looked like Janet Jackson but weighed a good 250 pounds says lustfully, "Ooo, what's up?" The expression on Tucker's face made me cry, I was laughing so hard: It immediately dropped as he gets an eyeful of her and says, "Not a damn thing!"
The movie is chock full of goodies. The delivery of the script is what makes this movie and everyone was cast perfectly for their parts.
Sequels were unnecessary because this stands out by itself.

The Extended Director's Cut is definitely NOT more uproarious than the original DVD version. I watched about 10 minutes of this Blu-ray version, grabbed the case and saw that it was a different version from the original. I ejected the Blu-ray and popped in my DVD original version. This Directors cut gave me a new appreciation for the job of editing movies. I looked up the editor of the original version. John Carter you did an excellent job of editing on the original DVD version. I don't know how much if anything you had to do with this "Directors cut" version but it sure does change the whole mood of the movie. Director F. Gary Gray did a wonderful job of directing but he should have left the movie unchanged for the Blu-ray release. The original DVD version is CLASSIC, 5 stars (even with Ezal's exaggerated acting). The Director's version simply "screws up the mood" and is worthy of one star. Future Blu-ray releases should be the original version only with the scenes that were originally cut and that you want the audience to see in a "deleted scenes" menu.
Note: F.Gary Gray had a minor role as the kid sweeping in the neighborhood market.

This director's cut version of the film ruins the movie! It's filled with extra unnecessary dialogue that isn't even funny. And the picture quality looks like it's still DVD. I already have the DVD with the way it's supposed to be seen. What a waste

The original Friday is a classic. The extra footage and material still bring new laughs to this viewer. Wish they would have added a copy of the original theatre release as well.

This is my favorite movie of all time. I personally think this is Chris Tucker's best performance and Ice Cube's too for the little acting career he has. This movie is down right outrageous from beginning to end. My favorite part has to be when Craig and Smokey go into the house to get some Kool-Aid and Craig says We don't have any sugar and Smokey goes Daaaamn!! You never have two things that match....you got peanut butter... no jelly, kool-aid... no sugar, ham..no burger. Everyone should go pick this up...its gaurenteed laughs.

Friday is a hillarious look at a day in the life of two friends growing up in the hood in urban LA. 22 year old Craig Jones has just been fired from his job at the shoe store and on top of that, his parents are threatening to kick him out of the house. Craig's best friend Smokey is in the midst of a shady drug deal gone sour. This film is Funky, Funny and Furious.

Avoid this release. It ONLY includes the 'directors cut' which is hampered down with extended scenes that only drag...the...movie...on. Instead of the quick laugh, get in get out flow the original cut has, this one just keeps it going. I couldn't even finish it it was so awful to watch. AND I LOVE THIS MOVIE. LOVE IT. One of my favorite comedies by a stretch, just not this release.

The video transfer isn't so hot, either. Really, unless you're just super curious about what was cut out so long ago (which adds zero to anything) stick with your DVD copy. Even at the $10 price point, it's not worth it. Not to mention THIS IS BLU RAY - there's MORE than enough room to include this cut and the original cut, and probably some 3rd cut that is just Mr. Parker chasing his wife out of the house.

This movie deserves SO much better.

Is this deluxe edition better than the old New Line Platinum edtion?
Stick with the original, the deluxe version is a director's cut of the movie and it's not as good as the original.
