5.0 out of 5 stars The last CD from a great band, September 19, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Friday Night in America (Audio CD)
This is a great album.
Unfortunately it was the last CD together from the New Grass Revival.
Good production, good songs, great playing, but everyone involved was ready for a change.
I saw this band live many times and I really miss the great shows.
Maybe someday there will be a reunion tour, anything is possible, you just never know.
In the meantime buy all their albums and enjoy one of the greatest bands in the history of bluegrass and good music.

New Grass Revival defined a new sound for bluegrass, and it's one of the acts that got me interested in the genre back in the mid-90s. This album has it all, including the original version of "Callin' Baton Rouge" that blows the cowboy hat off Garth's version!

5.0 out of 5 stars As good as it gets, May 21, 2009

This is one of my all time favorite tapes. Yes I still have the cassette version.

John Cowons and Pat Flynn's amazing voices, Flynns great guitar and song writing to fill out the albums covers, Bushes mandolin and fiddle, and of course Bela's banjo (a little excessive on Bigfoot) come together in just the right blend.

Nobody has ever done, and I suspect ever will do, Calling Baton Rouge better. And that includes Garth Brooks. Their version of Angel Eyes is enough to bring you to tears, and their full speed non stop remake of I'm Down, which I didn't really like on first listen, has grown on me so much now that I get real worried if it comes on while I'm driving. I tend to want to play air guitar and air banjo at the same time. And with the rapid back and forth, I end up hitting my legs and knocking my knees off the wheel, which is all that's controlling the car at that point.

A shame they broke up after that, but what a serendipitous coming together of talent. This one could become hard to find someday. Grab it now.
