Time Well Spent,
This review is from: Friday Night Chicas: Sexy Stories from La Noche (Paperback)
I usually don't have a lot of spare time, so what little spare time I do have is spent wisely. Sad to say but, if a book does not catch my interest within the first 40 or 50 pages....I usually don't ever finish it. When I read this book it had me from cover to cover. It was funny, witty, and down to earth. In most of the stories there were parts that I could relate to. I think that made it all that more humerous. I would probably read this book again in the future. When I finished it I gave it to my bestfriend to read. Needless to say she loved it to.

4 snaps! LOL!,

I had to give this book four snaps! I loved it! I was first introduced to this book after reading and falling in love with Hot Tamara by the talented Mary Castillo. One of the writers of Friday night chicas. I did my research on the title as I always do before I purchase any book. I found out that they were 4 stories & 4 writers. More bang for my buck. LOL! I read the excerpt and liked was I saw. I went out and got it, read it and love it! I recommend this book to any one who would like to escape the monotony of the real world and add some spicy latin flava to their life.

Wonderful novellas!,
This review is from: Friday Night Chicas: Sexy Stories from La Noche (Paperback)
This book is a collection of wonderful Latina chick lit novellas that will appeal to all women looking for a fun read. I especially enjoyed Caridad Pineiro's HEARTS ARE WILD and Mary Castillo's MY FAVORITE MISTAKE, but the other two stories were also quite good. I hope the authors bring back their characters in full length books at some point.

Fun beach read (3 1/2 stars)...,
This review is from: Friday Night Chicas: Sexy Stories from La Noche (Paperback)
I wanted a good beach-read companion for a sunbathing session and Friday Night Chicas was the perfect choice. This saucy and super chic anthology features four fun, feisty novellas written by four up and coming Latino authors. The stories have the same premise of a modern and single career woman who meets Mr. Right during a night of cocktails and bar-hopping. All four novellas are enjoyable reads, but my two favorites are Mary Castillo's My Favorite Mistake and Berta Platas's Revenge of the Fashion Goddess. The other two novellas, Hearts Are Wild and The More Things Change, are also great and deserve their due. Are you in the bargain for some fun chick-lit beach read? Then you have got to give Friday Night Chicas a whirl!

This book was rated by four of our reviewers."My Favorite Mistake" review by Bela--Mary Castillo is a pretty good story-teller, but it just seems that she should stick to short stories instead of lengthy novels, which seem to go nowhere. Out of all her books, this was the best one. "Hearts are wild" review by Celia--I liked Tori. I could relate to her in almost every way--from her putting work first above all else, including love, to having friends practically shove a man-whore in your face. Even your own mother! "Revenge of the fashion goddess" review by Sandra--This story had a bunch of flawed reality, full of repressed fear and personal growth, which made for a true-to-life page-turner. "The more things change" review by Minnie--Ultimately, I feel that this story just did not belong in a book filled with stories of love burgeoning from a wild Friday night. Not that it was a bad story. It actually was a critical study of how women forge lasting friendships, even if it doesn't really last forever.

4 Stars from Romantic Times Magazine: "A delicious recipe of flavorful characters and humorous dialogue mixed with comical action makes Friday Night Chicas worth reading ... Tori, Isela, Cali, and Gladys prove that life is all about taking risks. Each story is unique, well-structured, and these Latina women exemplify poise, success and intelligent, a knockout combination."
TEMPO New York Post: "Discover how four super-Latinas encounter the dilemmas associated with dating, marriage, friendship and premarital sex as each tells her version of living la vida loca. Readers will have no problem enjoying these vicarious stories written by four writers . . . Could it be because these chicas take risks or possibly because they remind you of someone you know? DAILY NEBRASKAN: "This (HEARTS ARE WILD). . . has a twist at the end and . . . discusses the difficulty of being taken seriously as a Latina in the business world. Piñeiro's narrative is quirky and funny and keeps the reader's interest throughout. . . Each novella includes intelligent humor and plot twists that guarantee to please." LATINA Magazine: "In this Sex and the City-meets-chica lit collection, the authors offer you a seat at the coffee shop table for a glimpse into the lives of know-it-all Latinas."

four fine novellas with a Latino flavor,
This review is from: Friday Night Chicas: Sexy Stories from La Noche (Paperback)
"My Favorite Mistake" by Mary Castillo. Desperate as her career in Hollywood looks over before it took off after ten years of trying Isela last year optioned a work that gives her the "Feel". She has stolen her former boss Dave's VIP pass to a Friday Night in Los Angeles gala while he is out of town to meet and persuade director Tyler to take on her project.
"Hearts Are Wild" by Caridad Pineiro. Though she would prefer to forget, birthdays are important to Tori's family so she expects a small party with the Rodriguez brood and amigas for the Big 30. However, she never expected Friday Night in South Beach to be blindfolded and taken to a casino yacht or end up in a strip card game with a hunk. "Revenge of the Fashion Goddess" by Berta Platas. She was extremely shy when she attended North Elmwood Park High School fifteen years ago as a fashion-challenged teen, but has come along way since. However, the Friday Night in Chicago reunion raises all of Cali's insecurities in spite of making it as a designer in New York even with Rick there. "The More Things Change" by Sofia Qunintero. Her old roommates host a bachelorette party for Gladys at a male strip joint on Friday Night in New York City. However, a few drinks later, inhibitions gone, Gladys vanishes with one of the studs. How will she tell her fiancé? These are four fine novellas with a Latino flavor that readers will enjoy. Each tale contains a strong female protagonist, a solid support cast, and terrific hunks as Friday night around the country is a fun anthology. Harriet Klausner

Don't Bother,

I didn't expect the novel of the year when I purchased this book, but I expected a decent, frivolous book with a couple of entertaining storylines. Instead, I was privy to short stories which once they grabbed your attention, they abruptly ended and a new story began. The first story was entertaining and the subsequent stories were terrible. I couldn't even finish the book. Just don't bother with this book. Save your money for something else.
