SACD SUPERIOR to redbook CD,
By
This review is from: Friday Night in San Francisco (Stereo SACD) (Audio CD)
I own both, SACD and CD. The sound of the SACD is so much more clear, articulate, three dimensional. Before I got the SACD I hardly ever listened to the redbook as acoustically there wasn't much to distinguish it from the other pressings (even when played back on a Sony SCD-C555ES). Playback of the SACD offers such listening pleasure. I close my eyes and just listen to the great LIVE music. The playback experience will depend on the quality of your audiogear.

SACD- What is going on?,

This review is not about the album " Friday Night in San Francisco". This review is about SACD. If you are reading this then you clicked on a link that you thought would provide information about the SACD version of the above mentioned album. Not so. Most of the reviews under all 96 listed SACD albums are of the audio cd version of the recording. This is a tragedy. This new format allows us to hear things in our favorite recordings that were not so obvious before. I doubt very much that any of you clicked on the SACD version of "Blonde on Blonde" hoping to find info on the musical content of the disc. Come on guys! If you are not reviewing the SACD version specifically then move on to the CD Audio version and right your "critiques". SACD provides new bondaries. Tell me if it is multi channel, tell me if it is two channel only. Describe the mix. Tell me about the SACD medium itself. Tell me about the nuances that you heard only now after having listened to a disc 1000 times before. Tell me about being able to hear Jim Morrison's breath in the mix. But don't tell me why you think Journey was an under rated band. There is not a lot of new content out here. There is however a new listening experience. Describe the use of the new medium... Same holds true for the DVD Audio format. Lets get it together and provide some useful info. Thanks!

Must have....,

For those of you who haven't heard this cd, it's flat out amazing. This is a legendary live recording and it will be sure to amaze anyone who listens to it regardless of their musical taste. Absolute insanity, non stop guitar dueling...you won't be able to speak the first time your hear this. Get this disc (preferably on SACD with a nice system) and play it for your company....then watch their mouths drop open.I'm running a sony 555es through sonus faber signums and it sounds as if I am on stage with the band which only makes this an even better listen....

Why SACD is so good,
By Steve Miller (Maryland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Friday Night in San Francisco (Stereo SACD) (Audio CD)
As a longtime self-described audio nut, I have always been opposed to CD being the definitive medium for listening. Having worked in the audio retail business for quite some time, though, I am in a constant search for "Killer Demo's." I used a version of this on CD for a while, until I heard the SACD version. The image created was more lifelike than ever before, and far superior to the CD version I was using. This and Miles' definititve "Kind of Blue" SACD's are must-haves in the collection of any music lover. These units have driven me to purchase a Sony SACD player instead of a DVD-Audio machine. The difference is worth the somewhat heavy pricetag. SACD is the first thing I have ever heard that comes with the depth and soundstaging of a Sheffield UHRQ LP. Well worth every penny for these UHRQ discs. Do your ears a favor, buy the SACD machine. Get as many SACD's as you can. Its worth it.

SACD version is phenomenal,

Having just pitched my tent in the SACD camp, by virtue of the new Sony SCD-CE775, I was naturally anxious to obtain some discs to see what all the hoopla was about.I can wholeheartedly, without reservation, recommend this title. The SACD format is simply amazing, to my ears- leading edge transients, instrumental timbre, tone and decay are worlds beyond CD- silky high ends without the treble trash of CD- the venue's acoustic space and depth is clearly rendered. If you don't have a SACD deck get one- then get this disc !!!!

Living, Acoustic Sound,
By
This review is from: Friday Night in San Francisco (Stereo SACD) (Audio CD)
As many of you probably have discovered, SACDs are currently difficult to come by. Thus, it is important to find those discs that exemplify the format and lend example to its sonic capabilities. If this sounds familiar, then this disc is for you. The stereo separation on the recording are amazing. Every string vibration, foot tap and fret slide are audible and well defined. If you have a decent set of front speakers you will really feel the deep tones. If you like acoustic guitar, you will love this piece.

Stereo SACD, not Multichannel!,

This is a great performance. My review is mostly based on the fact that this is a stereo SACD, not multichannel. I am learning more about SACD every day, but was very disappointed that it is only presented in stereo.

Gorgeous Recording with Playful Musicians,
By Bobak (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews

Undoubtedly one of my favorite recordings in SACD format, I only wish there was video as well, because it would be great. These gentlemen truly understand the music and their improvisational skills are fantastic, as they're able to play along with each other and the audience, the latter which seems to be thouroughly ecstatic. Unfortunately this is not a hybrid recording, which means if you want to transfer it to a portable device or play it in your car, it requires tremendous effort.

Amazing performances and sound!,
This review is from: Friday Night in San Francisco (Stereo SACD) (Audio CD)
This SACD is one of my favorites.
The first time I tried to listen to this recording, I had to stop after the first cut, "Mediterranean Sundance/Rio Ancho." I was literally breathless from the experience! DiMeola and DeLucia sounded like they were in my living room (I love SACD!), and playing like they had never done before. Every time I listen, I am breathless, and sit listening with a big smile on my face. The rest of the SACD is equally amazing, with great performances by McLaughlin (one of my all-time favorites), DeLucia and DiMeola. The sound quality on this SACD is wonderful, and the performances really bring out the best in this format. Many of my live SACDs don't really do justice to the performance, but "Friday Night" is highly recommended as an example of how wonderful an SACD can sound.
