5.0 out of 5 stars I enjoy this product
I really enjoy using this product. I am African American and I used to straighten my hair with a relaxer. I used this after washing and conditioning and it helps keep the moisture in my hair. After using a blowdryer to straighten, it comes out soft and straight.

3.0 out of 5 stars It works if you don't mind heavy hair, November 14, 2008
I have been using a hair serum to smooth and condition my hair for some time. I finally used up my bottle so put out feelers for a new product. Unfortunately, most of the products recommended to me are not available at Wal-mart in the middle of the ngiht so I opted for John Frieda Frizz Ease Extra Strength Hair Serum rather than the one other product, despite its higher price tag.

I suffer with some frizz and fly-aways, especially because my hair is so fine. It can look pretty unkempt only a short time after I brush it so I wanted a product which would smooth it and not let it be quite so unruly. While Frizz Ease Extra Strength Serum does work, it's rather heavy and leaves my hair feeling greasy.

This serum is very comparable to Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum although I prefer the bottle because it looks sleeker (but it comes in a much smaller bottle). Frizz Ease Serum does a better job, in my opinion, but does not smell as nice. It does not smell unpleasant but it does smell a bit too much like perfume and chemicals to me.

The bottle instructs to apply a dime sized amount to wet hair. Oddly enough, the official website says to use a quarter sized amount and I think this makes more sense. I like to apply the serum to my brush so my hands do not get greasy. Unfortunately, whether I am using my brush or my hands, the product does not apply evenly. The first area where I apply the product tends to get a thick coating and the rest of my hair sees much less. Of course, this is a problem with any serum.

What I do not especially like is how greasy my hair feels. It does not necessarily look greasy but if I touch it with my hands or feel my hair brush my face, I can tell. My hair generally looks really sleek and shiny but it does not have a lot of movement because of the heavy serum which makes clumps of hair stick together. At one point, it even left clumpy residue like cheaper gels. Other people probably wouldn't notice because I am the only one staring so intently at my hair, however.

The problem is, that if I use less, it really doesn't work all that well. Even having my hair greasy, I'd say only about 75% of my fly-aways and frizz is smoothed down. While this is a decent amount, especially in humid San Antonio, I was looking for something that worked a little better, especially from such a big name.

I think what it most disappointing is how long the bottle lasts. I've only have it a few weeks and it is already about halfway gone. When I used the Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum, it was in a much larger bottle that literally lasted me years.

Overall, Frizz Ease Extra Strength Hair Serum is a product which works with a few drawbacks and has a price tag that will quickly add up with how frequently you will have to replace the product. I will keep on in my search for the perfect frizz product.

Now I am natural and still use it on my curls. They are soft after adding it to my wet hair and it retains the curls and coils I have. Nice product!

4.0 out of 5 stars It Really Works, August 12, 2009

Although as another reviewer mentioned, this product can make your hair feel a little heavy, I found it was much more effective for my thick, frizzy hair than other products (including the leave-in conditioner by Garnier Fructis). While vacationing in Narangansett, RI, the humidity is quite intense, but my hair stayed under control. I definitely intend to use it often.

Good, but...I have frizzy and thick, wavy, hair. So, it makes it behave better, but I cannot use this and expect my hair to behave. I need a whole arsenal of products.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excelent Product!, April 1, 2010

This serum is excelent. It really holds the frizz down, and I use on the ends too, when they are really dry.
Of course, if you use too much, it's gonna look heavy and oily, it's a SERUM. But if you get the feeling of how much your hair needs, it's gonna help a lot and look very healthy.
I'm usually too lazy to apply stuff in my hair, but this is a must have.

Product Update -- April 6, 2011.

This is still my number one serum, I haven't found anything that is as good as this little miracle product!!
I have changed almost every product in my hair care routine, but this one is staying for good.

5.0 out of 5 stars really goog!, January 5, 2009
I think that this product is amazing! Normally after taking hours tp flat iron my unruly hair, as sonn as i step outside into the horrible florida humidty my hair frizzes up sooo bad, sometimes i think i can hear it! but when i use this before and after flat iron, blowing drying, and curling my hair it never gets frizzy. Not one hair out of place. It soo amazing! I was shockeds since i havent been able to find antyhing that worked so well. I have curly/wavy hair so even when i leave my hair natural it doesn frizz up. I normally put i tiny amount on my ends before i got to sleep and when i wake before i go to school and it works great.
The trick is to not use too much because it is realy concentrated, so if you use to much you risk leaving your hair greasy. I have hair pas my shoulds close to half way donwn my back and i barely use a dime size because im usually left with some serum on my hands.

GET IT, IT WORKS WONDERS!!!

This is a wonderful product to bring back some softness and remove some frizziness from recently permed hair. I haven't found any product that works as well. I use it in conjunction with the Frizz-Ease Wind Down Relaxing Cream. It only takes a small amount each day to keep hair looking nice.

5.0 out of 5 stars I have very thick wavy hair and this really works., November 9, 2011

I am so impressed with this product. I have very thick wavy hair that comes just past my shoulders. I gave up on straightening it and decided to just go with what God gave me. The problem with that is that God gave me some really thick hair. I have a closet full of products that I bought, tried and stored away for another day.

This product works wonders if you follow the directions on the box and not the ones on the bottle. I can't even guess why the directions are different but there you have it.

I keep my bottle in the shower. After I squeeze my hair out I flip it over and get two pumps, or a dime size amount, rub my hands together and scrunch it all over from the ends up. The bottle says something about applying it to wet or TOWEL DRIED hair but I haven't done the towel dried way yet. I don't think it would soak into as much hair that way. Then I put on my towel turbie for a few minutes to soak up some of the water, apply some mousse, and then use my hair dryer and diffuser. 80% drier and I am good to go.

My hair dries with more defined waves then when I don't use it. I have to say that even after a windy day I am good to go. I haven't noticed "heavy hair" or greasy hair. I honestly didn't even notice a smell. I wouldn't even consider using this product alone. I think that you need something else to help your hair out and even John Frieda suggests their mousse.

I use the Dream curl product by them for my "second day hair". I find that it helps "reset" or redefines the waves after a night of sleeping on it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works better than most high end products, March 15, 2011
This review is from: John Frieda Frizz-Ease Extra Strength Serum, 1.69 Ounces (Misc.)
Th's stuff is great even for my thin, wavy hair. I've tried many products, CHI Silk Infusion and Aveda Smooth Infusion to name a few and none came close to th'is one. Even put on dry hair i have not came across any excess weight. My hair was flowier than I would like and soft and managable. Great quality for such price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value., March 14, 2011
This review is from: John Frieda Frizz-Ease Extra Strength Serum, 1.69 Ounces (Misc.)
I've been using Frizz-Ease for 14 years, and love it. With my first bottle, I always used way too much - my hair was smooth but heavy and dirty/greasy looking. The bottle emptied fast. With a little practice, I got the hang of it.

I have long, thick, wavy hair, and this is my #1 product. I section off my hair into 4 parts. I place a dime(ish)-sized amount of product in my palm and rub my hands together to coat them evenly, then distribute the serum through the section. Any product left in my hands gets rubbed into the ends.

Using this product (or sometimes the yellow bottle if I'm going to flat-iron my hair), my hair is smooth as glass and soft as silk. I don't get the wiry puffy blow-outs, I don't have frizz, I don't have dry ugly ends. This is not a one-stop product though - no serum is. I still use hairspray, pomade, etc., as needed. This just preps my hair for styling, making it look and feel healthier.

Aside from my first year or so, when I was heavy-handed, I don't experience build-up in my hair from using this product. I also use it on my daughter's hair if I'm blowing it out. I give bottles away as gifts. I love this stuff, and recommend it to everyone.
