5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Quiet...
Happy with it's quiet operation. It be just because I'm replacing a 15 yr
old model and today's units are quieter. Sliding the chassis in and out is
kinda of a pain and there is no fan speed indicator on the unit itself.
That's only a problem because it's hard to tell from the fan noise what
speed your on so I guess that's not such a bad thing but...

1.0 out of 5 stars A lot of noise, not a lot of cooling. Pass on this one.
I have a very hot 200 square ft bedroom on the top floor of a 6 story apt building in NYC. I had good luck with Friedrich in the past and figured this should have covered it. I was replacing a Kenmore 7800 that did the job well, but died after 2 years. This unit did not do much of a job when the temperature went up and this is in early June, and we haven't had a serious...

That's only a problem because it's hard to tell from the fan noise what

why not. Completely Chinese made like all the others but it's basically
a copy of the original tried and true design. Another nice feature is
the dehumidifier mode which I didn't notice on other makes.

J&R delivered it in a couple days instead of 10-14 days as stated
and in good condition too.

I paid at least twice as much for a friedrich, than a comparable 7800 btu ac because i cant sit still, study, sleep, think or do anything for that matter with a lound constant noise in the background. I wanted "ultraquiet". this is it. and it cools very well! very pleased!!

this looks to be a copy of what Panasonic stopped making. --- a great unit .I'm glad it's back and available. better quality and quieter than any of the competition. --- they could, however, have added a little extra sound profing in front of the compressor with marine 1/2 inch acoustical foam as i did. -- now mine is whisper quiet. ---

I have a very hot 200 square ft bedroom on the top floor of a 6 story apt building in NYC. I had good luck with Friedrich in the past and figured this should have covered it. I was replacing a Kenmore 7800 that did the job well, but died after 2 years. This unit did not do much of a job when the temperature went up and this is in early June, and we haven't had a serious heat wave yet. The compressor made excessive noise and vibration, which got worse after a week. Also the swing in the louvers have to be turned on separately every time you turn on the unit. If your unit is turned on by a timer the louvers will stay pointed in the direction that they were when you shut the unit down last. This means that you have to turn the swing movement on every time you turn the unit on. (A nuance in the dark as it's hard to tell if there on or off.) I didn't like the way this distributed the air over the traditional air openings. I went back to my retailer and complained, and he told me that he had received numerous complaints that this AC was noisy and weak. I wish Panasonic still made AC's.

I bought this in July and have used it for about a month. So far it is a wonderful unit. It is pretty quiet and really gets the room cool quick! One downside is that we had to put it in just so or the fan hits the foam and makes a very irritating noise. So, installing it was not easy and the directions were horrible. Once it was installed though, i havn't had any issues.

replaced a unit that was under powered for the room size. This unit is for a window install (a detail i didn't read), and the install had to be modified to accommodate the length of the compressor - which extended past the depth of the wall box slot. Otherwise, it works great, has a remote, timer, and energy-saving settings. Has stood up to the hottest days of summer so far.

5.0 out of 5 stars friedrich air conditioner, January 26, 2012

This review is from: Friedrich Compact Programmable : CP08E10 7,800 BTU Room Air Conditioner (Kitchen)
Friedrich Compact Programmable : CP08E10 7,800 BTU Room Air Conditioner This was not a good purchase from the beginning. First off, it was sent thru a second party. It was missing a part to install in the window. After calling the company, for assistance and holding for well over 20 minutes. After installing it with much difficultly ( my husband is pretty handy) it didn't work. He took off the cover to check and realized the unit seized up. We sent it back for a refund. Went to a local store and bought a different one.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very noisy, July 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Friedrich Compact Programmable : CP08E10 7,800 BTU Room Air Conditioner (Kitchen)
I don't understand the people who say this thing is quiet. When the compressor is running it's extraordinarily loud.

In case somebody else has the misfortune of getting this noisy air conditioner, here is what I did to make it tolerable:

I pulled the air conditioner out of its case and watched it go to see what was making the noise. The pipe from the compressor to the condenser rattled like crazy whenever the compressor was on. So I got some heat tolerant tape (the kind they use for furnaces) and wrapped it around the compressor and the output pipe so as to prevent the pipe from vibrating freely. Now the air conditioner noise is no worse than normal when the compressor is running. The output pipe of the compressor gets hot so it's important to use heat resistant tape if you do this fix yourself.

Needless to say a good air conditioner shouldn't need this kind of band aid fix, my two star review stands.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thru-the-wall specs., March 30, 2011
This review is from: Friedrich Compact Programmable : CP08E10 7,800 BTU Room Air Conditioner (Kitchen)
Finding no specs in any manufacturer's literature regarding wall installs and vent/louver conflicts, I just spoke to Friedrich customer service @ 800-541-6645 and found the following measurements confirmed: The unit WILL fit and vent properly, through a 7-1/2" thick wall - WITHOUT blocking the side vent/louvers! Further, the CSR stated the top support "rail" is screwed in place, not tack welded or riveted. So if the finished wall "assembly" - from outside siding to inside sheet rock exceeds 7-1/2", you can sneak 2 more inches into the wall thickness and STILL keep the side vent/louvers from being blocked! Problem solved!

4.0 out of 5 stars Really Cool, October 26, 2010

This review is from: Friedrich Compact Programmable : CP08E10 7,800 BTU Room Air Conditioner (Kitchen)
I've had the unit for about 1 month and it has worked quite well. It is very effective at cooling, quiet and not too difficult to install. My main quibble is it's mediocre documentation. It's hard to find it's power usage (critical since it shares a circuit with other appliances) and there is an total absence of information over what is going on in several functions. One of the features that drew me to purchase this unit is its "dry" mode, where it should function as a dehumidifier only. This is important to me because I experience a lot of weather with high humidity but lower temperatures. Actually, "dry" mode means the AC is running at a low fan speed, meaning I have to buy a separate dehumidifier. What exactly is happening under "energy saver" mode is also a mystery,
