This is the best dehumidifier that I have had. I'm using the gravity drain into a sink, so I do not have to empty the bucket. The unit has a defrost mode that deices the coil when it packs up. It is quiet with two fan speeds. The fan shuts off when the unit cycles off unless it is defrosting. It reduced the humidity in my basement from 80% down to 30%. I have since adjusted it to hold the humidity at 50%. The humidity sensor is a bit off especially when the unit is running. This is a minor issue and you can adjust the set point to accommodate the error.

I have gone through three LG's and one Frigidare in the past four years. I successfully filed warranty claims on all the units, but I really would have preferred that they lasted longer. We will see how long this one lasts. It has a year warranty plus 5 years on the sealed system.

Other than a not-so-friendly user interface (for want of a better term), this dehumidifier works quietly and very well. After spending 6 years with a much louder, less efficient unit...this one is a godsend. My only problem was trying to figure out how to set it up to run on its own, based on the humidity setting rather than on a timer. I saw that another review stated that this method of running wasn't possible, but that turned out not to be true. That wouldn't have been so bad, but the user manual didn't describe set up.

Does what is expected and does it well. Best feature is the built-in pump that moves the removed moisture a total of 15 feet (total horizontal and vertical distance). That features saves having to empty the container by hand about every 4-6 hours. Also, 70 pints in 24 hours means that you can begin to see and feel the affects within a day or two at most. I did quite a bit of research of as many brands as I could before deciding on this model and brand and within a week of getting the Friedrich a good number of the ones made in China for various name brands in the U.S. were being recalled for bursting into flames.

Some comments made about Friedrich dehumidifiers on other sites complained that when you first plugged it in (right out of the box) and turned it on it did nothing. Guess what? Those commenters thought they were broken. Turns out that the manual states that the Friedrich will take some time (5-15 minutes?) to determine the humidity of the ROOM it is in before going into operation. Funny thing is that the complainers returned theirs and then rated the units 1-star.

If needed I would buy this same unit again and that is the best endorsement I can give it.

I had a soupy gross damp basement in my new house when I moved in. I store inventory for work there. I shopped around and bought this and I am incredibly happy.
It seemed more solid than other brands. It has a built in pump and came with it's own exhaust hoses. I set it up in 2 minutes and ran the hose into my washing machine drain pipe since the hose is only about 1/2 an inch it fit in the pipe with the washing machine hose. The facts: Humidity before I bought this was like 75-80%. Gross! After running this for about 2-3 hours it was at 38%. It feels like a normal room and not a dungeon. I've had several dehumidifiers at other homes and this is the best. It's quiet and it's built like a tank.

I have had a few different dehumidifiers, and all were junk. This is by far the best unit I have owned. Keeps basement NICE and dry, if a power failure happens, the unit remembers the settings and restarts automatically. It also self defrosts automatically so when it is winter time, ya don't have to worry about it freezing. I have searched high and low, this unit has ALL the features you need.

We bought the D70AP during the midst of a hot / humid spell. We've had it for about a month now.

It removes humidity very well.

Other reviewers mentioned that it has a tendency to cycle on and off very frequently. This is true. To get around this issue, we hooked it into a timer and set the humidity level to relatively low humidity - this way, it goes on for about 1/2 hour at a time, not constantly cycling on and off.

The humidity reading tends to be too low (e.g., it says the humidity is 50% when my hygrometer says it is 70%) and the temparature readings too high (e.g., it says the temperature is 93 degrees and my thermometer says it is 74). A reviewer said that this is because of where the D70AP measuring / control devices are - inside the housing of the machine. The heat from the compressor probably increases the temperature inside the housing and this also has the effect of lowering the relative humidity (because of the higher temperature - not because there's less water vapor in the air). Compensate for this by setting the desired humidity lower.

The heat from the compressor does make the room a little warmer. I belive this is true of all dehumidifiers - some more, some less.

The drain basket works and stops the dehumidifier when its full. The air pump worked great when we used it (into our sink - about a 3 foot rise). We now are using the passive gravity drain (needed to add an extension tube to reach our sump hole).

Now for the big question. How long will it work and last?
