GREAT - GREAT AND THEN SOME!,

This review is from: Swissgold Cone-Shape Coffee Filter (Kitchen)
I purchased one of these and used it for over three years before the dishwasher bounced it around one-too-many times and split the filter media in several places. Still, over three years, I saved a little money over paper filters and kept a lot of paper out of the waste stream.
SwissGold is THE premier maker of non-disposable products. The mesh is just the right size for keeping your morning joe from getting "muddied" yet allows more of the true aromas and tastes to filter through. A paper filter traps a lot of these and prevents the true "coffee" from presenting itself. I use fresh roasted beans, ground coarse, from all over the world and if I forget to clean my gold filter and resort to using a paper one, there is a distinct taste difference. If you find yourself in this position, use a brown or unbleached paper filter, unless you want chlorine-tasting brew. There is no doubt that the mesh in this product is somewhat fragile. To prevent damage, just wash it by hand or use some liquid dish soap and an old used toothbrush, which works great. I have a special place in my dishwasher when it needs a good cleaning but I rinse it out after with good, clean hot water and let it air dry. If you use this product AND pick the proper size, you will not be disappointed. Filter failure,
By nanomdr (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Swissgold Cone-Shape Coffee Filter (Kitchen)
We purchased this filter after owning a previous metal filter (different brand) that lasted for over 5 years. This filter developed cracks in the metal fabric within a few months and it became almost unusable after about 5 months. Also found that the plastic extender ring did not fit snugly and often fell off. The distributor says that the filter is very sensitive, and the cracks are from tapping the filter against the lid of the garbage can to get the grounds out. Since that's the only way to remove wet grounds without washing them all down the drain, this filter is clearly too sensitive for me. Anyone who uses the tap technique should not purchase this item.

I've been using this filter everyday for 2 months and there is no disappointments.Fits in the coffee makers basket like it should and is made with real gold on metal and not nylon like some filters.I keep it clean using non-detergent dish soap and a soft used toothbrush.Highly recommend this filter over all the others, may cost a little more, but it is worth it.swissgold® KF 4 Cone-Shape Coffee Filter

Works As Well As Cheaper Ones,

I did not notice any difference in performance (coffee flavor, etc) with this filter vs. my old $10 cheap gold filter. The old one still works fine but it's over 3 years old and I figured I'd give this a try. It is, however, constructed better than the cheap ones and includes a height adapter for large capacity coffeemakers (mine's a 10-cup and it just about fits without the adapter). In spite of the sturdier construction, in my opinion it does not warrant 3X the price.

I use this filter every morning in my drip coffee maker. This makes a huge difference in the taste of the coffee compared to using paper filters. Did I mention that reuseable filters pay for themselves because you no longer buy paper ones and that less waste is produced? Better tasting coffee + more environmentally friendly = win.

Gold-plated versus gold tone (or gold color)---NOT the same,

When searching for a gold filter, make sure you're getting the real deal. The others are "gold tone" or "gold colored." They are of poor quality and will do nothing for the flavor of your coffee. There is a reason why those are $8 or $9 and this one is almost $30. This one is actual 24 Karat gold-plated and has a less chance of altering the taste or your coffee with unwanted chemicals or toxic materials.

Swiss Gold - The best coffee filter,

This review is from: Swissgold Cone-Shape Coffee Filter (Kitchen)
We had an old Swiss Gold filter that was labelled "Braun by Swiss Gold" for Braun coffee filters and after 2 decades of use, it developed cracks in the mesh - possibly from careless washing or banging it to get the grounds out. I was frustrated by the new Braun filters available - they are gold colored metal mesh but don't last and rust quickly. After a little research, I discovered that Swiss Gold filters still fit. The Swiss Gold filters are not cheap like the Braun filters at Walmart, but worth the money. It should last a long time with gentle cleaning - no banging on the edge of a trash can or compost container to dump the old grounds. Clive Coffee had the best price on the internet thru Amazon and shipped very quickly. The filter is great and I will be looking at other products sold by Clive Coffee.

After viewing other reviews, I was a bit worried about spending the money for this, but it arrived in fine condition with no dents and was not misshapen. I have taken care not to "bang" the grounds out of the filter, as even the cheaper baskets with thinner and less rigid gold mesh will separate at the seams if care is not taken. I'll see how long it holds up, but I'm pleased with it so far after about a month.

We purchased two of these coffee filters last month. We have used this type of filter for about years. It had become a little frayed around the edges after daily hand washings and a once a week bath in the dishwasher. It is an amazing filter... there is nothing else on the market that does as good a job of filtering the coffee grounds with no bits of coffee getting through into the pot. It does a far better job than the other "gold" and stainless steel filters on the market and far outperforms the paper kind. We bought two, one to replace the old one and one to put in our new Cuisinart coffee maker at our holiday home. Yes, it costs much more than any of the others but it will far outlive anything else while doing a superior job. Beware any others that claim to be 'gold' because the mesh on those is too coarse and not engineered to filter properly.
Well worth the extra cost.

I am about to purchase a new 12 cup Swissgold filter to replace one that I bought in about 1985 and have used continually. I clean it by tapping it gently upside down on a 1/2 sheet paper towel, wrapping the grounds for the compost, and running the filter under hot water immediately after use. Easy. Gentle. Stays clean. I don't see why it is necessary to scrub it or put it in the dishwasher; there are no oils left on the mesh if you clean it promptly. I use soap once in a while to make sure the plastic part is clean. The sides have finally pulled away from one edge this year. The design is a little different now so I hope it fits my old plastic shell, looks ok. That's quite a lot of paper saved over the years for less than $1 per year.
