Have used and loved this product for three years, March 20, 2006
This review is from: Frieling Swissgold KF-2 Universal Cone Shaped Drip Coffeemaker Filter Basket Gold (Kitchen)
I have used this filter daily for over a year and love it. At first I tried using it in a "Mr. Coffee" style machine, but found that my coffee grind was too fine and the water would filter through too slowly and overflow if I made more than 2 cups. Since I make coffee for one or two people usually, and don't like to leave the coffee on the hot pad, so this was okay for me. Then I switched to single-cup method using a drip filter holder that fits over the cup. I bought it along with a cup at a Starbucks about 3 years ago. One thing that is great about the SwissGold filter is that it cleans so easily. The first time I rinsed it out I took a paper towel to the inside and it came out clean. I was very surprised. (Not so with the plastic filter holder.) The taste is great, and I haven't purchased coffee filters in 3 years. Once I tried it with a coarse grind coffee in my coffemaker, which I received as a gift, and that worked out okay, too. Currently I am using it with my caffiene free Teeccino herbal coffees (help me keep my blood pressure normal under stress), and the filter works very well with those blends. So I highly recommend it. It pays for itself if you are looking at it from that aspect.

works (mostly OK) for me, May 10, 2007
fits my one-cup Melitta drink coffee maker OK, and allows hot water to flow smoothly. Cleans easily without apparent remaining coffee stain. Coffee tastes good. A great alternative to paper #2 filters that seemed to me to break too routinely. Revised comment: upon further use, I do find this filter lets some fine coffee grinds through and into my cup of coffee. I still prefer this gold filter to paper filters. I just avoid drinking the last quarter inch of coffee in my cup. I would revise down to four stars if that were allowed on this "edit page."

Easy, clean and... "GREEN!", March 8, 2007
This review is from: Frieling Swissgold KF-2 Universal Cone Shaped Drip Coffeemaker Filter Basket Gold (Kitchen)
I am an early morning disc jockey, so the relevance of coffee in my life ranks up there with home resale values, mom and apple pie! I use a little Melita Coffee Maker that allows me to brew directly into one or two travel cups, or into a carafe. My only regret after buying the unit was my inability to locate gold, permanent coffee filters in the #2 size. Amazon to the rescue (again)! There is no need to buy filters by the score, the journey from the coffee maker to the garbage disposal does not take me, dripping, across the kitchen floor (as the old paper filters did on their trip to the garbage can). And, if my last gold filter/ Melita combination was any indicator, it will last me about ten years! I also feel good about using a permanent item that can be cleaned and reused daily instead of contributing another few millimeters per year to the level of the landfill. Then, there is the taste factor. All of my friends and family call me a coffee snob and I guess I am. Many tell me that they can't taste the difference. But, ever since I switched to gold filters about 15 years ago, I could swear that the paper filters leave a slight after-taste. Final comment; don't worry about cleaning it. It's not time consuming or messy. I just hold the filter under a brisk stream of tepid to warm water and it quickly rinses the filter clean and the grounds intot the disposal. About once a week, I put it through the dishwasher cycle... but, top only, please! Gold IS a soft metal. Here's hoping you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine! - Ed.
