Pilkey shows wonderful creativity and versatility.,
By A Customer
This review is from: A Friend For Dragon (Dragons) (Paperback)
Most kids have been lonely at times, and can readily identify with Dragon when he quickly takes to his new friend. Pilkey also encourages kids to feel sympathetic to Dragon when things don't go his way. Combined with stunning artwork, at times reminiscent of Van Gogh, Pilkey's "Dragon Tales" offer a wonderful way for kids to explore feelings while enjoying a good, fun story. My kids (ages 5 and 6) love all of Dav Pilkey's books, including "Captain Underpants," but the "Dragon Tales" are among our favorites.

Adorable! Dave Pilkey's best story!,

This review is from: A Friend For Dragon (Dragons) (Paperback)
I know Dav Pilkey has written a lot of funny books which can make both kids and adults laugh, but I consider his Dragon series to be the best, and of those, A Friend for Dragon is tops! I have returned to this book many times to read to school children, and they are glued to the gullible dragon who falls for the trick that an apple is alive and can speak. We laugh as Dragon tries to communicate with his best friend, the apple, and worry when the apple is bitten into and finally dies. Dragon goes through a grieving process, but the story ends on an upbeat, optimistic tone, and we are all touched by the sweet humor and poignancy of this story. This is one of my all-time favorite children's books.

SWEET!,
By A Customer
This review is from: A Friend For Dragon (Dragons) (Paperback)
I bought this book because I was doing a unit on Friendship with my students. I loved this book as did my own children and students! It is a chapter book that can be read in one sitting. We were all touched by the fact that Dragon was looking for a friend. While the kids laughed at how he made friends with an apple, they learned for science the life cycle of an apple! I love the part where Dragon takes Apple to the Dr. and at the end of that part he took home a brown mushy thing. It is really a sweet book with great illustrations. I love all Dav Pilkey books! I highly recommend this book. I plan on getting others in this series!

Cute Story,

This review is from: A Friend For Dragon (Dragons) (Paperback)
Dragon is lonely and no one will play with him. Then a snake plays a trick on him and talks for an apple, "Hi, I'll be your friend." He takes the apple home, prepares food for him, never suspecting that he can't really talk. (Dragon is sweet, but not too bright) Finally, he does become worried and takes apple to the doctor where apples health suddenly worsens. He realizes that apple is dead, grieves until he meets lots of new friends. My 4 & 6 love this story.

We are definitely going to get more Dragon books! The girls love dragons so they just loved this book and this character, they were giggling so hard the whole time we were reading this book! I really like the amount of words per page, the girls are young enough that things need to be picture books still but we want them to move to more words and this is a great book for words and length, and it will still be a great book for them when they are just starting to read on their own. I did not like this one as much as Dragon's Fat Cat, not sure why, all the stories make Dragon look a bit dim which is a little sad, but maybe that's what makes him so endearing to the kids. A definite recommend!

Its not as funny as Dragon's Fat Cat by the same author. A little boring, but has its funny parts too. Like the other Dragon stories better than this one. They are very humorous and fun to read aloud.

I have most of these books and love them because they were easy/simple to read to my baby when she was 6-12 months. She loves the pictures and the not so busy pages.

I am a nutrition associate for the University of Maine which requires me to go to a number for different schools and head start programs to teach nutrition. All of the children loved this book(A Friend for Dragoon)--actually I have to read it twice for them.

This was my daughter's favorite book as a young child and still is as a teenager. She even likes the rest of the series.

A Sort of Friend For Dragon,
This review is from: A Friend For Dragon (Dragons) (Paperback)
This story is almost like a compilation of a few stories in one book. All about Dragon finding a friend, which he does in a way. A terrible thing happens to his friend and then it in a nice way. I just didn't like that Dragon was so gullible but i guess it was showing that he was young. I don't know...I it thought was alright and I would like to read more from this series of Dragon books. I guess I expected more just not sure what I expected though.
