When you are friendly to other people, they enjoy your company and look forward to seeing you again. If you are aloof, mean or just indifferent to others, they will not want to be around you. They may even walk the other way when they see you coming. Friendliness means you should treat others nicely, be kind and warm to them, smile and say hello when you see them. "Friendliness makes you happy! It makes other people happy too." Just think about the times you have felt warm and fuzzy inside when someone smiles at you. And you didn't even get a present!

When there is a new student at school you should go out of your way to introduce yourself to them and also introduce your friends. It's scary to be a new student and you can make them feel comfortable and welcome. Sometimes when you are friendly you can even get make new friends. Sometimes when you are feeling a bit low and make an effort to be friendly others can actually cheer you up. On the other hand you can "cheer others up" when you are friendly and nice to them. Other ways you can be friendly and spread your cheer are with your brothers and sisters, spending time with people and helping the elderly. There are a lot of ways to be friendly.

This book is very well laid out. It nicely shows the value of friendship not only to the child, but also to others around them. This book has a nice even flow to it and is easy to read. Each concept is illustrated by an appropriate full color photograph. For example, when talking about how "friendliness helps those that are lonely," there are two children helping an elderly man rake leaves. This is an excellent read aloud and discuss book for homeschool or classroom use.
