Book Description

January 29, 2008
UNDERSTAND CHINA through the eyes of a renowned Chinese diplomat's conversations with Luis Palau, American Evangelist. In A Friendly Dialogue between an Atheist and a Christian, Luis Palau, representing the Christian faith, and Zhao Qizheng, representing atheism, present a composite of recorded dialogues held in China in 2005 between them. Through these dialogues, readers are provided insight into the current struggles atheists have regarding the truth claims of the Christian faith. Topics discussed include philosophy, history, religion, the Bible, creation, atheism, Confucianism, politics, ethics, Chinese and Western cultures, and the relevance of Jesus Christ to society. Through the engaging dialogue between Luis Palau and Zhao Qizheng, many of the stereotypes and misinformation concerning the Chinese culture are exposed, revealing a nation in which the Bible is published and new churches are being built. By avoiding the use of complicated theological language, these discussions express the concerns of both Christians and atheists in a clear, meaningful, and respectful way. A Friendly Dialogue between an Atheist and a Christian is a must read for anyone interested in gaining a greater appreciation of the oriental world of China and how the Christian faith is being received within that context.

Editorial Reviews

Review

I remember the first time I saw Luis Palau. I of course knew who he was and knew about his ministry, but I didn't know how he would react to me personally. What struck me was his genuine sense of concern for every person he came in touch with. It's something you can't fake. He's real. -- President Bill Clinton - 42nd President of the United States

This book is of great significance to helping the Chinese and American people understand their own and each other's culture. Its underlying spirit is imbedded precisely in the concept of harmony now being popularized throughout China. -- Ji Xianlin - noted scholar, professor of Peking University, and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!, March 28, 2008

This book is unique!

With so many titles out there discussing Atheism and Christianity, this is the first I have read that openly, honestly, and respectfully looks at both sides of the arguement. Each author is well-versed in their approach and understanding of the topic, and give great insight for someone interested in this normally volatile subject.

It's an easy read, yet profound. Don't miss it.

5.0 out of 5 stars It really is a Friendly Dialogue, July 22, 2008

This review is from: A Friendly Dialogue Between an Atheist and a Christian (Paperback)
I just finished reading A Friendly Dialogue earlier today. I was absolutely astounded by the words of Palau and Zhao. As a Christian, I was able to really appreciate the depth of Palau's knowledge of Christian Theology. But I was even more affected by the athiest physicist, Zhao Qizheng, and everything he had to say. I have never really paid attention before. This book is a brilliant start to what this world probably needs most: dialogue between peoples of different beliefs. Originally to be called "A Confrontation between an Athiest and a Christian", the renamed "Friendly Dialogue" is a much more apt title for one of the most interresting and informative conversations I've read.

This truly is a must read for Christians, Athiest, Chinese, Americans, and anyone interrested in opening the doors for communication.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eye Opening Dialogue, June 27, 2008
This review is from: A Friendly Dialogue Between an Atheist and a Christian (Paperback)
A well-balanced book that goes into enough detail to produce a desire to learn more. Very eye opening concerning the views of an extreme Athiest vs a Fundamentalist Christian.

If you have ever wanted to see a balanced debate between the two sides, this is the book to read.
