3.0 out of 5 stars Little Richard and Jimi Hendrix (?), March 1, 2000
Years of exhaustive research have led this writer to conclude most assertively that the contents of this l.p. were originally cut in '64 and prob. '72 with perhaps a few exceptions. "Whole Lotta...", "Lawdy..", "Goin' Home.." and 4 others were first rel. in '64 in mono! Here marks their (probable) first CD issue in stereo! "Why Don't You..." was prob. cut c. '72 (the actual release year - I bought it, folks, in New York c.72/73 & the l.p. jacket says "1972" - by the way it has been recently reissued on LC Records). Many of the tunes are exciting, esp. "Shakin'" and "Lawdy" which feature LR at his vocal & instrumental best. "Goin'.." incl. Don Harris (of Don & Dewey) on elec. violin. Unfortunately, it still has not been proven that J. Hendrix is actually on any track herein. Research shows that there are perhaps eight Vee Jay numbers which do include Maurice James [aka Jimi Hendrix], but those titles are not here. Another drawback are the instrumentals which despite a strong rhythm section feature an amateurish lead guitar. **** for Richard fans / * for Hendrix fans = marginal ***.

3.0 out of 5 stars great buy for Richard fans, only for hendrix fanatics, March 12, 2004

A little known fact: Jimi Hendrix played guitar in Little Richard's band(L.R. made all the band members wear uniforms, and cut their hair short, so dont be suprised you didn't reconize him). Jimi learned a great deal of his showmanship and flash from Richard. I have only one problem with this cd: the title is deceptive. Jimi and Richard were not the best of friends, their personalities clashed in many ways, both wanted to lead the show.
