4.0 out of 5 stars Very funny - maybe frightening for first timers
I agree with another reviewer that this book could scare a first-time pregnant woman. I've been reading it lately as a second-time pregnant woman and it's hilarious and extremely true for me and my experiences. She maps out my first pregnancy "by the book". It's also a book I wish my husband would read. I think Vicki Iovine read my mind. It does at times present a...

2.0 out of 5 stars Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy
This book is well-written in an easy to read and conversational style. Unfortunately, it paints an extremely negative view of pregnancy. The book assumes that all pregnancies are fraught with these difficult symptoms. As all are not, it can be a frightening read (unnecessarily so) for those with easy, complication-free pregnancies. I don't recommend it for first time...

4.0 out of 5 stars Very funny - maybe frightening for first timers, March 18, 2005
This review is from: Best Friends' Guide to Pregnancy (Paperback)
I agree with another reviewer that this book could scare a first-time pregnant woman. I've been reading it lately as a second-time pregnant woman and it's hilarious and extremely true for me and my experiences. She maps out my first pregnancy "by the book". It's also a book I wish my husband would read. I think Vicki Iovine read my mind. It does at times present a negative view of pregnancy, but I have to say from my experience, it's a very realistic view. I try to think back to my first pregnancy and birth and wonder if this would have scared me...I think it would have, but I would have been a little more prepared for what would really happen to me! This time around, it has been very comforting to read that so many other women experienced the same things I did in pregnancy and birth. For some reason - I thought I was the only person in the world who ever went through this!!! If you're looking for an honest, realist view of what I'd call an "average pregnancy" - this is a wonderful read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes you laugh when you feel like crying!, March 3, 2006
This review is from: Best Friends' Guide to Pregnancy (Paperback)
Personally, I loved this book. I read it as a first time Mum and although some sections were a bit graphic, it was great for someone to finally tell it as it is! What I found scariest was when 'unpleasant' things happened and then I'd worry. But one quick read of the best friends guide reassured me that yes, what was happening was NORMAL! The best pregnancy guide I bought.
It will make you laugh when you feel like crying. I've recommended it to all my expecting friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars lighthearted, witty, fun, January 1, 2005
This review is from: Best Friends' Guide to Pregnancy (Paperback)
This book is good for a laugh and more. It doesn't pretend to be a serious source of pregnancy related medical advice. It is a compilation of the experiences of one woman and her friends. With so many pregnancy books out there, one with a little levity is a must read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Clever, June 30, 2007
This review is from: Best Friends' Guide to Pregnancy (Paperback)
I think this book is a must have for all pregnant women. It gives a funny, honest look at pregnancy. I used it during my first pregnancy. It is hilarious! I had several other textbook type books on pregnancy but this one tells you straight out what to expect, which I found refreshing. I'm about to start reading the Best Friends' Guide to Toddlers. I can't wait!
