Proof of the fact that money does not buy everything!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Friends to Die For (Hardcover)
This book appealed to me because I have always been fascinated with the high-society lives of teenagers my age, especially those livng in Manhattan. Crissy, the main charcter, is smart, talented, and witty. She learns that things aren't always what they may seem, and that money and being "on the A list" doesn't necessarily bring one happiness. Read this book if you are interested in the upper-class lifestyle....it will teach you a lot.

I think this is a slightly realistic story on how it compares with teens lives today. i like the scandalous twists that exaggerates societies bad sides. it's one of my faveorite books to read.

Sixteen-year-old Cristina Garcia-Vasquez and her friends live in fancy apartments, attend super-expensive private schools, and do and have everything else you'd associate with A-List teens in New York City. And that's got to include parties in these huge apartments when parents are away for weeks at a time, right? When a girl is murdered in a subway station, and Cristina was at the party where this girl was last seen alive, life changes drastically for Cristina, her family, and her friends. Matters are not helped by the segment on TV about the Garcia-Vasquez family, focusing on Janine Billings, the murdered girl, and Cristina's stay-at-home mom. This book has a lot of interesting elements: The funny hate messages from feminists about Cristina's mom, the mystery of Janine Billings' murder, the press stalking Cristina, her friends, and her family... This book is interesting and amusing at times. It is not, however, a book that will stick with you forever. It'll keep you entertained, though, and that's good enough. Reviewed by: Jocelyn Pearce

This bood was a really good book. It kept me on the edge of my seat waiting or the next part. It's basically about a girl adn her bes friend hanging with a wrong person that could change their life forever. The girl's name was Chrissy and her best friend was Francesca. they are on the A list. They live high-class fabulous Manhattan apartment, attend the best schools and are just living the life of a celebrity. Being all that great can however get them in trouble. they were one of the people that sort of knew what happened on the day of that party they went to. Chrissy and Francesca were suddenly a huge famous celebrity because of what they know about "what happened at the party" they went to. A fight started out and finally became into a murder case with so many peole questioned. Then finally Francesca's boyfriend was accused of murdering the girl that left the party screaming. These two young girls faces pressure and realizes about what the murder has done to them. They had loyalty and trust and that brought them closer knowing at all times, that they always had each other to live for.

Nice Usage of Expressions,

Although I am suppose to be reading 9th grade level books, it is still nice to read something simple yet captivating. When I picked up Giberga's book, I thought it was just another "nonsense" novel but I was completely wrong! Once you look at the first page, Giberga is able to capture the audiences' attention. Giberga is able to put herself into a teenager's world smoothly without any problems. As you turn each page, the story gracefully moves from one event to another. Quite a page-turner like the "mini" review quote that is posted on the back of the book.

Disappointing effort to relate to teenagers,
By A Customer
This review is from: Friends to Die For (Hardcover)
Friends to Die For, a novel set in the '90s New York, is lacking in character. At first glance, it seems like a typical teen novel. However, it soon becomes boring and unrelated. The book tries to pull lures from mystery, suspense, and murder but truly fails in all three. The scenes are not as well written as they could have been, destrying even more of the book. I enjoyed a few small parts, but the book never really interested me. Certainly not a one sitting read, as it fails to hold interest. This isn't one of the best books I've ever read, but not the worst. Still, disappointing.

Friends to Die for,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Friends to Die For (Novel) (Mass Market Paperback)
Jackie G.Christina Garcia-Vasquez is part of the A-list in Manhattan. She and her friends at her private school are considered over privileged snobs. Although Chrissy is considered A-list her family is different. Her parents want to spend quality time with her and her two brothers. This drives Chrissy insane, but after a murder at her best friend's parties she learns that having a family that cares is not so bad after all. Jane Sughrue Giberga is very good at painting a picture of the book for you; it is almost like you are there with the character. Although she may be strong in descriptive writing, she is a bit lacking in story telling. She gives too much background information about each of the characters. Halfway through the book and it still feels like there is no advance in the plot. Her style is a bit too slow moving . There was not too much mystery in this mystery book. After the murder, there was pretty much no advance in solving the murder. There were only a few suspects and almost no evidence of the crime was mentioned. It seemed very unrealistic that the police pinpoint would only one person and didn't look any further into the other suspects. This book is more about how the murder affects Chrissy's life and how she deals with it more than solving the murder itself.

This is one of the best books I have ever read. I liked it because it takes place in the 90's in New York City and all the characters do & speak the things they really do there. Christina, the main character goes thru some things that are similar to the things that my friends and I go thru. They even speak the teenager language.I was very impressed.

This review is from: Friends to Die For (Novel) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is the best book I've ever read. Every time I have a book report I pick this book. I may not understand most of the stuff in the book but I understand about murders and that kind of stuff. If I stopped it was a cliffhanger I wondered what was happening next but on some night I couldn't put it down. This is such a good book!
