It was a pleasant afternoon in the month of July 1642 when three young people sat together on a shady bank at the edge of a wood some three miles from Oxford.

Very good military story,

This review is from: Friends, though divided A Tale of the Civil War (Kindle Edition)
I assumed that this book was about the American civil war, but nope- there was one in England in the 1640s when the House of Commons wanted to usurp some of King Charles' power. Naturally he didn't want to give up any power, so a war ensued.
The "Friends, Though Divided" in the title are two teenagers who fight on opposite sides of the war. It's more of a historical narrative than a novel, meaning that it is mostly about military action and doesn't have much in the way of emotion or personal relationships. If you're into English history and 17th century warfare, you'll find this to be a nicely detailed, well-written story.

The book is great - the binding is terrible. It falls apart on first reading. Do not buy this edition.
