Editorial Reviews

RED EYE: Terror rides the night skies in this thriller from horror auteur Wes Craven. Lisa Reisert (Rachel McAdams) is a young woman with more than her share of anxieties about flying. However, when circumstances demand she go to Miami, she gathers her nerves and books a seat on a late-night flight. Sitting next to her is a handsome and charming man named Jackson (Cillian Murphy), whom she already met in the airport, but once their jet is safely in the air, Lisa discovers he's not the pleasant traveling companion she imagined. Jackson is part of a terrorist cell plotting to kill the head of Homeland Security, and he's decided to draft Lisa into helping him. While Lisa has no interest in abetting Jackson's plan, he soon reveals he's holding a trump card — his compatriots are holding Lisa's father hostage, and will kill him if she doesn't cooperate. Red Eye was the first feature film credit for screenwriter Carl Ellsworth, who previously scripted episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Xena: Warrior Princess. THE HAUNTING: In the 1860's, industrialist Hugh Crain financed the construction of Hill House, a beautiful but forbidding mansion where Crain hoped to house a wife and children. However, Crain died an unexplained death at Hill House, and ever since tales have circulated that the mansion is haunted by evil spirits. 130 years later, Dr. David Marrow (Liam Neeson), long fascinated by the Hill House legend, brings three people there for what he tells them will be a study in sleep disorders. Theo (Catherine Zeta-Jones) is outwardly brave, but it soon becomes evident that Hill House's sinister reputation has her on edge. Luke (Owen Wilson) quickly finds himself wondering: if this is really about studying sleep, why bring everyone to a haunted house? And Nell (Lili Taylor) finds herself inexplicably drawn to the mansion, with a fascination that soon bears terrifying fruit as the true story of Hill House is revealed. The Haunting was directed by Jan de Bont; the screenplay was written by David Self and based on Shirley Jackson's novel The Haunting Of Hill House, which was also the basis for Robert Wise's 1963 film The Haunting, widely regarded as one of the screen's finest ghost stories. WHAT LIES BENEATH: In this supernatural thriller, a woman believes that a visitor from another dimension is trying to guide her into a sinister mystery.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quite a Good Set, April 9, 2008

This review is from: Fright Night Collection (Red Eye / Sleepy Hollow / The Haunting / What Lies Beneath) (DVD)
This is actually a great collection of horror films.

"Sleepy Hollow", a great Gothic style horror film from the always reliable collaberation of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp.

"Red Eye", is a really great thrill ride, s simple and strong story with fun suspense.

"What Lies Beneath" is one of my personal favs. Great acting and serious white knuckle suspense.

"The Haunting" is a more special effects driven horror film but still effective.

If you like horror films and want a "Fright Night", you cant go wrong.
