4.0 out of 5 stars Only One Song
I bought this primarily becuase I wanted the "Don't Fear the Reaper" song but was a little disappointed that it lacked the other songs from the movie and only contained instrumentals. Becuase the film was shot in New Zealand they used local bands for most of the songwork and then Danny Elfman for the instrumentals. Now I love Danny Elfman, but this was not one of my...

3.0 out of 5 stars It's Elfman, all right, but not at his peak
This is one of those for the die-hard Elfman fans. I'm one, and even then, after my first listening, my reaction was: "That was a lot of noise." It's gotten better...it has to grow on you, I guess. If you're just shopping for some good listening music, keep looking. If you're an Elfman collector, yes, this one is still a worthwhile purchase.

This is an Album that I enjoyed, the theme is just sensational, but I won't lie, you might get a little tired of it but it is still Danny Elfman! All together it is a great album and if your in to the darker side of Danny's music like me this is the music for you and I recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Spooky..., August 24, 1999

As typical of Danny Elfman, very edgy work. The first track gave me the willies. Love the Reaper song from the Mutton Birds... This would make a great album for Halloween parties and such.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Spooky Score By the Composer of the Dark, January 26, 1999

Tinkling harpsichords, screaming strings, blaring brass, and moaning vocal performaces highlight this score by the Dark Composer Danny Elfman. While this album doesn't have the heroic charisma of "Batman" nor the extreme dark power of "Night Breed", Elfman serves up a satisfyingly ghostly score with some nice horror themes to it. Not his best work, but certainly not his worst. I recommend this especially for horror music fans.

The music tends to get a little frantic at times, but there's no denying the opening is great, as is the sound quality.

I like this soundtrack very much. It has all the fine elements of "Elfman music". Please enjoy all of his works.

3.0 out of 5 stars It was....ok., December 13, 1999

I dunno. I usually LOVE Danny Elfman stuff. But this album leavs me waiting for...something more. For one thing, it's a short score. The music isn't that catchy, either. I've listened to it over and over and only a few parts of the album stick in my head. The music, in itself, is good. Nothing wrong with it (the pianos in here are fabulous!), but it's just...not what I was expecting. The movie's really good, and this album has it's moments, but I've heard better. That's not to say it isn't good, just...not one of my favorites.

Plus "Don't Fear The Reaper" has been raped by some guys calling themselves the Mutton Birds.

It's fun to listen to, though. If you like Danny Elfman stuff, you'll dig this.
