4.0 out of 5 stars First air conditioner damaged before shipment, second air conditioner broke after 6 days of use
Scratch the first review. I spoke, or typed too soon. Do not buy this air conditioner. After returning the first one because it was damaged before shipping, the second one has broken as well. Used it for about 6 days in total. The compressor has stopped working completely, just makes a buzzing sound and emits a burning odor. I've had it for about 50 days in total so the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great value A/C if you don't mind the noise - it's LOUD!!!!
This air conditioner I purchased new for around $269.00. Its small width, (hence the name Compact II) fits in the small width double hung window that I needed it for (I believe my window is 24" width). Most standard sized window units will not. This is one of the reasons for buying it, along with its low price. This unit blows extremely cold and cools my living room and...

This air conditioner I purchased new for around $269.00. Its small width, (hence the name Compact II) fits in the small width double hung window that I needed it for (I believe my window is 24" width). Most standard sized window units will not. This is one of the reasons for buying it, along with its low price. This unit blows extremely cold and cools my living room and kitchen with ease even on the most brutal summer days in New York. I have no complaints about the ability of this unit to cool whatsoever. My only complaint is it is extremely noisy - it sounds like a factory. It is even very noisy at its lowest fan setting. The manual says to lower the fan if it is too noisy, but that is an exercise in futility. So if you're gonna have to hear it, might as well leave it at maximum. I like the variable fan speed feature. So one would be hard pressed to find a 12,000 BTU for the price of this Frigidaire unit, but you WILL be stuck with the noise. Frigidaire should reverse engineer a Panasonic air conditioner if they want to be serious about competing in this market.

I gave it a generous three stars because of its impractical noise levels.

I've had it for about 50 days in total so the return policy is useless. I'm extremely dissapointed with purchase and feel like I have wasted $300+. Tried contacting frigidaire but no luck so far. Unfortunately I can't edit the original rating. I'll update this review with specifics on how Amazon deals with the situation. Again, be extremely careful if you are considering purchasing this air conditioner.
05/22/08 Just want to update this review in terms of how Amazon handled the situation. After calling and Emailing customer service I received an Email from Amazon stating that "As it seems that the problem with this item is more widespread than we originally thought, we are not able to send another replacement. We will gladly refund you in full for the return of this item." It took a few Emails but Amazon refunded me in full for the air conditioner and shipping. I was impressed with how they quickly apologized and offered a full refund; very good customer service. The air conditioner gets 1 star, but Amazon gets 5. I have since purchased an LG 8000 BTU air conditioner. The fan isn't quite as strong, but it's much quieter and the air gets just as cool as the frigidaire. I've used it for about 15 days and the compressor is still working.

5.0 out of 5 stars Big Chill for the money, September 19, 2011

I spent 3 hours reading specs and reviews on window units. This had the highest energy rating (10) when I bought it 4 summers ago. It cool 540 sq ft. I live on the second floor and the central air couldn't maintain in the dead of summer. This unit saved my summers. A big plus is when fall is cooling down and spring is heating up, there are many weeks you can use this unit (with a fan blowing into your main living area) by itself and save on central cooling. I keep it in the master bedroom so I can turn off the central air at bedtime and sleep in a comfortable room. Its has been the most money save purchase I've made in years. Very important! It' footprint allows installation into a small window. Don't forget to measure.

This review is from: Frigidaire FAC126P1A Compact II 12,000-BTU Room Air Conditioner with Electronic Controls (Kitchen)
We are pleased with the Frigidaire FAC126P1A Compact II room air conditoner. It is doing the job that we bought it for. It is installed "in wall" in my storage/work area for my projects. My items are china/cermanic that are stored in the area that require moderate room temps. The outdoor temps in this area of No. California are over 100 degrees many days of the summer. The temperature in doors in this area would be around 105 or higher. Now I can keep the interior temp down in the 70's and low 80's.

The power saver is a great feature. We turn on the unit and frankly...let it run day and night. It keeps the room temp regulated to our selected setting. The remote is kept on a shelf across the room and it seems to be doing its job.

We would recommend this air conditioner to others.

Pleased in Western Sierras of No. California

This review is from: Frigidaire FAC126P1A Compact II 12,000-BTU Room Air Conditioner with Electronic Controls (Kitchen)
Great AC for the price. Quickly cools a large room and saves energy. It is also fairly quiet except on high fan speed.

If you're looking for a powerful A/C that fits in small windows, this is your product! We looked high and low for something that could cool down our home and still fit in a small casement window. Almost all of the larger units were too big and more expensive. This was it and the price is right. We replaced two 5000 BTU units with two of these and even when the temperature shows 100 degrees, we're quite comfortable. As far as the noise issue goes, we're actually in the next room and don't even notice they're on until they shut down using the energy saver. We own a home with a very open floor plan and glass from floor to ceiling (that's 2 1/2 stories with loft) in our living room facing southwest, so the heat produced is incredible when the sun is shining. Yet, that is where these units are installed. We are so thrilled with these A/Cs we can't say enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great compact window A/C, May 25, 2009

This review is from: Frigidaire FAC126P1A Compact II 12,000-BTU Room Air Conditioner with Electronic Controls (Kitchen)
This is the fourth and best window A/C that I've owned.

There is almost no compressor noise in the room. Like all window A/Cs, fan noise is greater than a central unit; but, the fan noise of this unit is acceptable even though it is mounted within 6 feet of my favorite chair.

I highly recommend this item.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does the job, albeit noisily, September 6, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Frigidaire FAC126P1A Compact II 12,000-BTU Room Air Conditioner with Electronic Controls (Kitchen)
I bought these over a year ago, and am very happy with them. (I bought 2.)

Installed 1 on the upper floor and 1 on the main, and both do the job admirably well considering they're cooling off a *much* larger area than they're probably supposed to. For most of the summer, the one on the main floor does a fine job solo; for the hotter (above 90) days, both kept the house at least 10 degrees cooler than the outside, if not more than that. Considering I dislike weather hotter than 73 degrees, and these AC units kept me comfortable at home, the noise factor didn't bother me. I liken it to "white noise"; my kids were all able to sleep; so did my husband and I.

One mention: Sometimes (with the energy saver setting) at night, when it would kick back on, it could get annoying, depending on how well one was sleeping at the time. However, like I said, I hate hot weather, and love to be able to snuggle under blankets in the summer and be comfortable. To me, that was worth the noise.

Filters are uber-easy to clean. Installation was a typical pain in the butt, but I expected that with a window AC. We solved the problem by leaving them in all year round. LOL. (And yes, I'm purchasing some AC covers this year! -- It did get a mite drafty at times, but our curtains over the AC helped.)

I do recommend them for others, and would purchase them again if need be.

(I also love the remote control feature at night for changing settings, temperature, etc.)
