Awesome,
This review is from: Frigidaire FAS256R2A 25,000-BTU Window Air Conditioner with Electronic Controls (Kitchen)
We love our new airconditioner, we had to run wiring so we had the right type for this machine. But we knew that before hand, it was shipped right to our home we didn't have to lug it anywhere. You walk in our house now and its like we have central air we set the thermostat and away it goes. Ours came just in time for a heat spell so its been close to 100 for days and our home is an oasis.

First off the amazon price was about 200 dollars cheaper than the big box outlets and since I had prime shipping it was free to ship and no sales tax so huge savings. Shipping was supposed to take 7-10 days and when I got a call that it was being delivered in 4 days from the date if order I was certainly surprised. I was a bit hesitant about having a 170 lb item shipped but it was strapped to a pallet and no dents in the cardboard box and the guy lift gated it off the truck and used a pallet jack to place it in the garage. I bought a 220v receptacle at Lowes to fit the 220 volt plug and hooked it to a 20 amp double pole breaker so no surprises there as in other comments. The install was very easy though I did a through the wall install in my workshop as my windows were not tall enough to fit the unit. I did it alone but placed the whole unit in my front end loader and just slid it into the mounting from there. There was no way I would have been able to lift it 4+ feet off the ground alone. I'm cooling an area about 1100 sq ft and at 100 degrees outside it still cycles and no problem keeping it wherever I set it. I have bigtime insulation though in our garage/workshop and even without AC it never got hotter than 83 on 100+ days but the southern humidity was a killer. I like the remote as it has a digital thermometer built into it so I can see what the actual temp is where ever I happen to place the remote. I also like the way it "sniffs" the air every two minutes out of 10 to determine if the compressor needs to run on the auto setting. Hopefully it will last a long time but it was certainly way cheaper than a split system I was considering.

I have had my new air conditioner nearly a year. This product seems to do a good job cooling about 1200 square feet. I am satisfied with it's cooling ablility, as of now. It is very heavy and cannot be installed by one person; get help. If I had any beef it was with the trucking company who had me meet them, rather than deliver to my home...the truck was to big for the neighborhood, and the driver could hardly speak English.(Very hard to give directions to someone who can't speak English.)
Frigidaire must not expect this product to last because I have received numerous requests to extend my warranty, for what I consider to be "to high a price". I would expect this product to last for a least 10 years, since an air conditioner runs only about 5 months, out of 12. The manufacturer keeps sending my those "last chance to extend your warranty" notices...that's troubling. And due to the degree of difficulty installing this air conditioner, one would expect it to last for a long time without worry of failure. Either they are trying to rip off the consumer, or have no confidence in their product's longivity without component failure. Time will tell how reliable this product is over the long haul. Big Mo

Better than anything Home Depot or Lowes had,

We tried several window, & moveable A/C units at Home Depot & Lowes, none of them could cool down our top floor rooms, and some were more expensive. This unit can make our top-floor rooms chilly during the hottest of days. We paid a handyman to wire a 240v line and couldn't be happier.

This Frigidare 25,000 BTU unit is packed with features and is quiet for its size. I wall mounted this unit with no problems. The price is very attractive for a unit with so many features, if it lasts 5 or more years without problems it will rate with my all time best buys.I would recommend to a friend. With its 9.4 energy star rating is 'icing on the cake'.

Poor excuse for an airconditioner,
This review is from: Frigidaire FAS256R2A 25,000-BTU Window Air Conditioner with Electronic Controls (Kitchen)
Do you have 3 hours to install this lemon? First, take it apart. Then, remove many pieces of styrofoam. Then put it back together (but only after you install the shell in the window. Then, you turn it on. What's this? Just slightly cool air. Well, it must take time to get started. One hour later, ask yourself, what's wrong? Why is it so hot in here? Three hours later, contact the retailer about returning it. No good, you took it apart (which you had to do to install it). Go to the store to buy a fan, thinking that if the air circulated, it would be cooler. No good. Contact Friedrich. No response. Still sweltering, but $400 poorer. Stay away.

Make sure you are aware that you may need new wiring to plug in this machine,

This is a nice machine, but I was surprised when I received it to see that it requires special wiring to plug in! I was disappointed that I needed to hire an electrician to modify my wall outlet (and of course he didn't bother to show up when I had stayed home from work right before a heat-wave weekend!)
