May 10, 2015 - Eastern Pennsylvania. UPDATE #2: I don't know what is up with Frigidaire products. Since I cooked the August heat and humidity last year, I was resigned to having to shell out another pile of money to replace this unit. (See tale of woe below) But, this afternoon, on a hunch and a last ditch effort, I plugged in this Frigidaire, and turned it on. Closed my eyes tight, crossed my fingers and waited. The motor started up and it kicked out air, but the air was of course warm. So I did a few chores and checked back in 5 minutes. Truthfully, if someone told me this story, I wouldn't believe him. The good ole wall unit was kicking out COLD air! Last summer I tried everything, and all I could get out of it was warm air and it kept shutting on and off, on and off. The manual indicated that the air flow was blocked, to clean the filter, which I had done, by coincidence just a few days before, but I cleaned it again anyway. I checked outside to be sure there wasn't anything blocking the air intake there. Everything was clear. I tried getting it to kick cold air for over a week before I gave up.

Here's the REALLY odd thing: Two years ago the smaller Frigidaire window unit I have upstairs (Think its a 5 or 6000 BTU unit) started freezing up, literally, ice crystals were forming on the unit in the middle of summer. Shut it down and a couple of days later tried to start it up again with the same results. Gave up. The next summer I was ready to take it out of the window to toss it, when I decided to try it again. Bingo! Worked like a charm the last two summers. Go figure.

Guess I should be happy this big boy is working again, and I am, but I'm still ticked that it left me living in a sweat box last August.

I am just about to order this product so please ignore the arbitrary 3 star rating!

I just wanted to help other people out who are trying to see if this product will fit an existing through the wall sleeve!

The specs listed are, "Product Dimensions: 20.5 x 24 x 14.5 inches ; 73 pounds."

You may be saying, "What Length x Height x Depth right?" or maybe Height x Length x Depth?

NO! You would be wrong! As per the Sears.com website for the same product Amazon has listed this as Depth x Width x Height!

Soooo just to be clear...

Width: 24
Height: 14.5
Depth: 20.5

Information as per Sears [...]

I bought this A/C to replace a very old behemoth of a Frigidaire through-the-wall A/C from the mid 1970's. This is one of the only 220 volt A/C's I could find, by the way, which is the same voltage as my old A/C. I was worried that this new A/C would be too small for the old sleeve which is 26" wide by 16.5" high. I was wrong. This new A/C seems to have been designed for the old sleeve that I had. The first step is to remove the old A/C which is definitely a two-man job. You should be sure to put a plastic sheet on the floor in front of the A/C before you remove it. Also have a bucket and some sponges handy. This is because the bottom of the old A/C has a drip pan which is probably full of water. After removing the face-plate, you then pull the old A/C out as straight as possible, maybe wiggling it a bit to get it sliding. It is not screwed or bolted in. It just takes a lot of strength and pulling to get it out. The directions to the new A/C recommended replacing the old exterior grille with the new grille provided. I tried this, but the new grille was too small, so I put the old one back on. Other than size, I noticed very little difference between the new grille and the old one anyway. The new A/C includes lots of different types and sizes of foam insulation, padding and cushions for using around it. After measuring the inside of the sleeve and the new A/C, I decided to first line the outermost top and side edges of the sleeve with the 1.5" stick-on foam strips. I left the bottom edge uncovered because that is where the drain holes are. Then I placed the four dense foam "centering blocks" in each corner of the sleeve floor facing inward (these are the blue pieces that are cut in the shape of stairs).Read more ›

DO NOT BUY.
I will never trust a Frigidaire (Electrolux??) product again. I had problems with the unit and I called the number on the A/C and worked with a service technician who determined it was eligible for a replacement. They process is to send it to a local vendor and I need to pick it up myself from that vendor and then dispose of the old unit myself. For those who live in urban areas where it doesn't make sense to own a car, this is incredibly troublesome. I contacted the vendor a few days later and they said they have not received an A/C unit for me or any paper work. I called Frigidaire back again and they said they would take care of it. I called again a week later and nothing. I call again and the vendor has still not received any paperwork even AFTER A MONTH!!! Now when I call Frigidaire, their automated system tells me to email them. I have emailed and waited for days and have no response. They said I would get a response within 24 hours. This in unbelievable. I WILL NEVER BUY FRIGIDAIRE AGAIN. As of today, I have still not received any notice that the vendor has even received the paperwork.
