Beware of bargains,
Beware the bargain. We own a two-family home and are now on our 2nd set of washing machines (one for us, one for the tenants) in seven years. Both of our first machines developed serious problems within about six years. These troubles (a leak in one, a bearing issue in another) were too expensive to fix given the purchase price of a new model. If you aren't worried about longevity, this might be the model for you.
Noise and vibration are an issue, but tolerable. Clothes do get clean...I can't say I noticed much of a difference between the Frigidaire and Whirlpool Duet I used while on vacation recently...at least when it came to cleaning power.

Moldy Smell,

I bought this washer and dryer set about a year ago. At first it was amazing - not only cute but cleaned well. After about a week though I noticed that my clothes didn't smell great after washing them. In fact, they didn't smell like they were even washed. I went online and found out that there are tons of people having similar issues with this brand. There are even class actions being taken. Not litigious in nature I have found that there are things to do such as using a hot water bleach cycle once a week to clean the drum, however, I find this rather wasteful and disappointing to have to use such measures on a brand new machine. I'm sorry I bought it. Otherwise it works fine...its just that the point of a washer is to actually get the clothes to look and smell clean.... not like mildew.

My husband bought this washing machine (and matching dryer) as a surprise for me to replace my 15 year old top-loading machine. He bought it at H&H Gregg. The machine began to have problems after one month. It started with the drum not spinning. After fighting with H&H they covered the $300 + repair fee. Since then we have replace the door latch - twice. No warranty coverage. Just replaced the draining pump. $320. No warranty coverage. And was told the hinge on the door will need to be replaced soon. The door must be left open between washings to prevent nasty things from happening. I'm about to throw in the towel and buy an inexpensive top loader - 15 years and NOT ONE SERVICE CALL.

Planned obsolecence,

We bought this same washer sold by GE. I was shocked today when the repair man said it was made by Frigidaire. Not only does a Company like GE. take it's jobs overseas, but it farms out it's appliances to other companies. Long story short, top load is the best, preferably an older top load without the 1/2 tub rinse cycle. All of these water restrictions have made these companies produce inferior products. This machine lasted 5 years to the day. Now I am told the pump and the bearings are shot. More than $600. to repair. According to Amazon, I can get this same piece of crap new for $29 more dollars. And talk about conservation, I will throw this machine away and buy another hunk of metal and plastic again in five years. That leaves us with a very full landfill, and Fridgedaire with full pockets! Take home lesson as told to us by the repair man, if you must buy this crappy machine BUY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY!

Frigidaire Front Load: built for looks, designed for replacement,

We chose the compact Frigidaire front loader washer/dryer based on the limited space that we allotted for laundry.
The good news is that appliance repair people have developed a keen awareness of the machines thanks to the number of times that they are called in and declare the washers dead. The dryer is fine and seems to run forever--we have electric. If you're used to the longevity and lack of mold smell that you get with a top load washer, you'll be a bit disappointed with this purchase. We own two sets (one for our use and one for use in a rental unit) and the first washer died after 5 years because of a leakage issue that lead to a fried circuit board and the second one died after 8 years of very light use when the bearings gave out. The positive side is that water consumption is less than half of the amount used in our old top loader. We immediately noticed the difference in the water bill and clothes do get clean. I have yet to make sort out the calculations as to whether the up front cost of purchase outweighs the long term savings on water--both in environmental impact and financial. Owner warning: Our first Frigidaire frontloader died after a gasket/leak issue. The washer sits in a plastic tub with a 2" high lip to prevent a leak from damaging the floors below. However, when the water level reached the 2 inch mark (and then over, sadly) it was high enough to short out the major circuitry of the washing machine. Technicians said that repair would be as expensive as a new machine.

In March 1999 we bought a Frigidaire Gallery stackable washer & dryer. The washer just recently conked out on us - the bearings or struts or something like that broke off and the drum no longer rotates correctly. I'm a little disappointed because I think 12 years isn't a very good lifespan for an appliance, but after doing some internet research, it appears 10 years is the average for a washer, so I guess I should appreciate that we apparently got 2 extra years out of it. Our model number for the now defunct 12-year old washer is Frigidaire 417.39012890, but it looks the same as this Frigidiare FTF530FS model (minus the blue highlights around the knobs). Since we were happy with what we had, we're going the same route again and getting this FTF530FS from our local appliance dealer, even though it appears that most of the people posting reviews here haven't had good experiences with this model.

This review will be short and sweet. I've had this for a few years now, and it has been almost perfect. There was once an issue with the door latch (which may explain one person's complaint on leakage) and the repair was easy for the mechanically inclined.
The unit is not loud at all when washing clothes. But the 600 RPM spin cycle sure creates a whine! However, this washer is way quieter than a regular old top load. You can add more clothes to the load, by stopping it first (push timer knob), wait a few seconds and then open the door. The water level does not exceed the gasket height. However, if you try to add more clothes while it is filling, wait at least 10 seconds between stopping the timer and opening the door. The door opening is smaller than expected, which makes getting large items in and out a little difficult. I also have the matching dryer. Love the set. The dryer has the lint filter very conveniently in the front and it also has an interior light. Except for the door latch repair, this unit has been flawless. Water and electricity consumption are definitely lower. And yes, all front loaders require you to run an empty bleach load through once in a while. I find that the normal cycle of bleaching my whites does the trick.

Loud, noisy, and off balance. Learned the bearings and shocks are gone after about 4 years. Looking around I see this problem(s) is all too common.
