5.0 out of 5 stars Great washer for the money
I had a very cheap washer that lasted for 5 years. When it broke down, rather than considering spending $50 just to have someone look at it, I decided to buy a new one.

I wanted a front-loading washer because they are gentler on clothes and use less water. However, after looking at some, I realized they were mostly pretty expensive.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't even think of buying Frigidaire!!
Frigidaire has been making defective front loaders for over a decade with no end in sight, and refuses to acknowledge it's defective design. 5.0 out of 5 stars Great washer for the money, July 21, 2008

I did a lot of research and Consumer Reports rated this washer as the best I could hope to get for the price. Finally after much shopping, I found a white one online and ordered it. I installed it myself in about 10 minutes and started washing.

We've now owned it for 4 or 5 months and I love it. It is very easy to run, very stable and operates flawlessly. I have washed all sorts of things in it and have never had a single problem. We have this in our kitchen-area right off the living room and, while it is a little bit noisy, it is much quieter than the other standard machine I had.

The one thing I've been a little trepidatious about is the detergent drawer which feels sort of cheaply made and ill-fitting. However, I've been careful with it and have learned how to use it and it really isn't that bad. Don't let that sway you from purchasing this machine. I really think you can't get anything better for your money. Even machines that cost over 2x didn't have the performance rating this one had.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't even think of buying Frigidaire!!, November 18, 2009
This review is from: Frigidaire GLTF2940FS 14 Cycle Front Load Washera
Frigidaire has been making defective front loaders for over a decade with no end in sight, and refuses to acknowledge it's defective design. There's an aluminum spider casting inside the plastic drum that corrodes to failure within 3-5 years. Frigidaire: "too bad" They warranty the stainless drum for 25 years but not the casting that holds it! And if the spider doesn't fail, the bearings holding it do because of a bad seal design.

My washer died of this spider cracking along with countless thousands of others. If this was a car there would have been a recall. For more tons info before you buy a Frigidaire (also sold as Kenmores) just do a search for "Why Kenmore Front Loading Washers Fail" or SPIDER DRUM FRIGIDAIRE CORROSION.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great washer for the price, December 6, 2008
I bought this washer as part of a set a couple of months ago. I had to downsize because my Kenmore He3/Whirlpool Duet would not fit in the townhouse I moved into.
This washer is comparable to the Kenmore/Whirlpool front loader, and is less than half the price. In one respect it's actually better. The Kenmore/Whirlpool was known for spinning the clothes so hard that they came out in a wrinkled tangled mess. I don't have that problem with the Frigidaire.
It's also stackable - and fits into the same space that the old fashioned "thin twin" stackable does.
I also agree that the detergeant/softner/bleach dispenser looks really cheap - like a bad knock-off of the one in the Kenmore/Whirlpool. But it functions just fine - so it's really a non issue.

2.0 out of 5 stars woudn't buy again, July 29, 2009
This review is from: Frigidaire GLTF2940FS 14 Cycle Front Load Washera
This set does a nice wash and dry job, but water collects in the rubber gasket around the door and creates an odor unless the door is left open or it is hand dryed after each wash. Also, small items like socks get caught there and end up soaking wet at the end of the wash. The dryer has a nice "shrink guard" feature, but the lint screen doesn't capture all of the lint and it falls into the cavity below which is impossible to clean. I'd spend a little more money for a set designed with a little more forethought next time I buy.

2.0 out of 5 stars Washes fine, but seal breeds mildew, September 6, 2010
This review is from: Frigidaire GLTF2940FS 14 Cycle Front Load Washera
We've had this washer for several years now, and found over time that the front rubber seal keeps water in it after each load. The seal has lots of folds in it, so that's a lot of water. I recommend that anyone who owns this washer dry out the seal by hand after the last load, and leave the door open so it can dry out. Our washer is now stinking up the whole house with its mildew smell - it's awful.

1.0 out of 5 stars lovely while it worked, October 13, 2010
This review is from: Frigidaire GLTF2940FS 14 Cycle Front Load Washera
Great cleaning tool with a short life span. We loved our machine because it got clothes so clean and spun them so dry. After seven years of one load a day, the outer drum cracked. "Common problem. Design flaw." said the repair man. Cost to repair matches cost to replace. So basically this machine cost us $100 a year and now we need to buy a new one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hunk of junk, August 26, 2010

This review is from: Frigidaire GLTF2940FS 14 Cycle Front Load Washera
I bought this washer for $650 after Consumer Reports named it a "Best Buy." It has most assuredly been a "Worst Buy." Just outside of the 1-year warranty period, the machine stopped working due to a faulty door lock. That had to be replaced at a cost of $300. The door is still not sitting properly and the repairman is coming back again. I contacted Customer Service and their response is "Sorry." No, I'm sorry, for buying this machine. Prior to this, I owned a Kenmore front-loading machine for 10 years that never once needed service of any kind.

Spare yourself, and get another washer. Kenmore makes good ones.

1.0 out of 5 stars broke after 2 1/2 years of light use, July 22, 2010
This review is from: Frigidaire GLTF2940FS 14 Cycle Front Load Washera
Used this for 2.5 years now it does not work. We used it lightly since it is for only 2 people and we only wash clothes once a week. The first year we heard some grinding sound, then now after that it suddenly stopped working. It won't even spin and only hear suction noise like water is going into the machine, but there is no water inside. We have to leave the door open after use because it smells, some water is left inside.

Called customer service and demanded that they fix the unit for free, they said they will pay for parts but I have to pay for labor. I told them that I will do the best I can to spread the news about this defective product. They still wont pay for labor. Now this is my chance to warn other people to avoid this bad product. DONT BUY AT ANY COST!

2.0 out of 5 stars two fridgedaires in a row, buy the warrenty, January 1, 2010

I had this washer and now have another model. The first pooped out shortly after the one year warrenty was up. The second is now having similar problems. According to our repair guy if you get a kenmore, maytag or fridgedaire (maybe even any average base model front loader) they have there fair share of problems to watch for. Buy the extended warrenty! I wish I had on both. Most people who have these have families and use them quite a bit and they ware out fast! I do one to one 1/2 loads per day on average. If your just a single person or a couple even yours may last longer. The door latches went out first on ours and then they did not spin out the water and needed repair. Then the sensors started to go. They also need to be left open when not in use to keep from making the insides stinky because a little water is always left behind! This makes your laundry smell bad, always fun! They are a pain but still have very nice features as well. I love having a counter on top to fold and store stuff. They save water and energy. I'm also short so the problems are better to live with than having to climb up to dig out clothes balancing on my belly. A friend of mine has a european model and knowing my year and a half year old machine is showing signs of crapping out I am saving for one like hers. She has had it ten years with not a single problem and it uses even less water. It's gonna hurt the pocket book though! Good luck fellow moms!

2.0 out of 5 stars socks inside water pump, September 28, 2009

I have had this washer for almost four years. I Did not have any problems until I started washing fairly small items. Periodically baby socks and mittens would disappear; I had assumed that they were mostly misplaced. This past weekend however, the washer stopped draining and the washing cycle would not complete. I took the drainage assembly apart to check for clogs, and to my surprise - my son's sock was inside the water pump (accessible by removing the lower front panel), jamming the pump turbine. Once removed, the washer is in working order again. My guess is that some of the past missing items were siphoned into the drainage assembly without jamming the pump and displaced into the sewer system.
I will be placing all the small items in a laundry sack for future wash, if only to avoid taking apart the drainage assembly again.
