We purchased our house in 2009 with a brand new Frigidaire dishwasher included.

Last month, my husband and I woke up at 1 a.m. to our fire alarms going off and a strong smell of burning plastic. We quickly grabbed our toddler and baby, ran outside and called the fire department. Turns out our 4 year old Frigidaire dishwasher's electrical panel caught fire. Now we have $15,000 worth of damage to our house due to smoke damage, water damage, and a charred dishwasher area. I've attached the picture of the burned dishwasher. Home owner's only covers so much, and we're paying plenty out of pocket, eating fast food to try and keep things cheap, not to mention dealing with the inconvenience of not having a kitchen with two young children. (Ever tried scrubbing bottles and dishes in the bathroom tub?)

When we contacted Frigidaire, they gave us the run around and then basically told us without a receipt for the item, they would do nothing. It was installed by the contractor who sold us our house, so we don't have a receipt. Frigidaire also went on to tell us that they reuse serial numbers on their appliances, so there is no way to track their products. Upon doing some research online, fires with their products specifically dishwashers, are all too common (google `Frigidaire Fire'). But there is NO recall on this product!

I would seriously reconsider buying Frigidaire with this kind of product defect history, plus lack of customer service.

After dealing with an old cruddy dishwasher for years, I was super excited to get a new one. We bought in a retail store, not online and it's hard to do research on appliances ahead of time because you never know what you'll find in store. Anyways, my old cruddy annoying dishwasher cleaned our dishes much better than this one. Half the time the dishwasher tablet doesn't even dissolve (and we've tried multiple brands)and it burns through JetDry like it's no-ones business. HATE IT! On top of it not cleaning well, it doesn't load nicely. I can't fit the dishes that should fit. BTW At the time of this review, I've had this dishwasher for 8 months. Grrrrr....

Our 15 year old Maytag cleaned better than this one. Less than a year after purchase we had to buy a new control panel.

I hate this dishwasher so much. Imagine - I went out of my way to locate a place to say how much I hate it! I had a 12 yr old whirlpool and I decided to treat myself to a new dishwasher. Maybe something with some new features - surely in 12 years there were some innovations? So I looked and looked until I found this one. I bought it at lowe's. I do about 3 loads of dishes a day ( large family ). So the first thing I discovered was that my NORMAL sized plates wouldn't fit into the bottom tray. Then I noticed that my glasses wont fit into the upper tray. The spray bar is so low that you can forget about cleaning anything other than juice glasses and dessert plates. Now after a year of pure torture and hell I have decided that I am going to hurt myself or someone else if I don't replace this dishwasher. No one deserves that sort of long term pain and suffering. - - What else about this dishwasher? Within the first 90 days, I had to use plastic zip ties to hold the silverware tray together. Otherwise if you pick up the silverware tray to unload it - your clean utensils end up all over the floor. Every time - not just once. Unidentifiable "pieces" started coming off this dishwasher. Little plastic flapper things. I have no idea if they are important or not. I just save them in a bag and wait to see if it starts leaking. Finally, I'd like to share that every cycle on this thing takes more that 99 minutes to run. It literally says "99" minutes remaining. WTH? So now I know why my electric and water bill jumped up. When my new dishwasher comes next week - I hope I can find someone to take this off my hands. I'm not sure I can even give it away!

This product is TERRIBLE! All you have to do is open the door and look in and you can see the DESIGN FLAW. There are little white flaps near the wheels. Every time you roll out the bottom drawer the wheels run over these flaps. Over time the flaps get ripped, fall off or get bent. This then causes the seal around the dishwasher to be compromised. Thus... you have LEAKS. I had this for 15 months and it leaked on my brand new wood floors and buckled them. Not to mention the fire risk this model poses, it must be the worst dishwasher of ALL TIME!!! The Silver lining is that if the dishwasher catches fire and leaks at the same time maybe the water will extinguish the fire.

Seeing some of the other comments here, I'm a bit leery that eventually I may have to come back and revise my words here and add into the chorus of 'I really don't like this thing', but for now I'll keep myself in the cautiously optimistic range and say that wife 2.0 and I like this appliance.

Sadly the 10+ year old Kenmore dishwasher that it replaced had gotten to a point that it just stopped functioning as well as it should have. It worked, but not nearly well enough to rely upon, and with each use it seemed to be a total roll of the dice as to whether or not the dishes that were in it were clean. It had put in years of service and it did cost me a little along the way to replace the baskets (trays, whatever term you want to use) in it after some of the plastic coating on the wire frames within had worn off. Once that happened the wire frame started rusting and rust staining dishes that were in it so it was imperative to replace those trays. I don't remember for sure, but I'd guess that somewhere near half of the service life came after replacing those trays.

Enough about the old appliance, at least temporarily. On to the new...

Ooops, not so fast since I need to take a few minutes to compare the two and note some of the areas where I currently do have to say that I don't absolutely love this new device (and wife 2.0 doesn't absolutely love it either). The older Kenmore device that it replaced had trays that didn't include all of the ability to customize and arrange things that this appliance does. The top rack/tray/shelf in this appliance lets you flip up or down a few pieces that give you some options to arrange the dishes you want it to clean differently as necessary.
