3.0 out of 5 stars Solid coffee maker, carafe drips, could have come with grinder.
This is one of the nicer coffee makers I've used. I had given up drinking drip coffee and was using the French Press, however, this coffee maker extracts good flavor from coffee.
The things I liked:
- Auto feature - Nothing like getting your coffee made by itself in the morning
- Coffee Strength - Strong or Regular can be selected which helps extract more...

4.0 out of 5 stars This one looks like it will hold up, November 29, 2011
This review is from: Frigidaire Professional 12-Cup Drip Coffee Maker (Kitchen)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
We'd switched to a Breville BKC700XL Gourmet Single-Serve Coffeemaker with Iced-Beverage Function (which I was fortunate to review for Amazon Vine) because it seems like every drip coffee maker we buy quits on us within a few months. But we just can't afford the K-cups, and using our own coffee with the My K-cup setup has been really messy and time-consuming. (Don't get me wrong: I love coffee made with the Breville, but sometimes you just want decent coffee fast and lots of it. There's a little more bitterness with a drip maker than with K-cups, but that just makes the coffee seem stronger.)

Out of the box, it's clear that the Frigidaire Professional 12-Cup Drip Coffee Maker is of a higher class than your typical plastic drip coffee makers. Its appearance is solid, sleek, and industrial-looking. This is the kind of coffee maker I'd expect to see in a small office setting. It's tall, so be sure to measure your cabinets if you think you're going to want to slide it under them. (It doesn't fit under mine, but my cabinets are set too low even for a shorter coffee maker.) The entire top lifts up to pour in the water and access the filter, so keep that in mind.

One thing I love about this coffee maker is that you can set it to brew at high temperature, which will extract the coffee better than your usual drip makers. You can also set it to brew regular strength or strong, and we've been using strong. It's definitely stronger than coffee from our Breville. We've been using the included reuseable gold filter so far, which does allow some fine dregs through, so next time we're at the grocery store we'll be getting some cone filters to use with it. I'm thinking the coffee is going to taste fabulous when filtered through a paper filter. (Users are cautioned not to use the gold filter and a paper cone filter simultaneously to avoid major overflow accidents, so if you're one of those who ignores the requisite "read before using" instructions, tuck this caveat into the back of your mind.)

After brewing, you have a (programmable) maximum of 120 minutes of warming before the bottom burner shuts off automatically. The lighted LED window shows you how much warming time is remaining and also the strength of your coffee and its brewed temperature. You can set the pot for autobrew, but we typically don't bother with that. It takes about 12 minutes to brew a full pot, which is less time than it used to take for two of us to individually load up and brew one cup each with the Breville/My K-cup setup. We're in a routine now of me pouring water into our Berkey (Big Berkey w/ 2 Black Berkey) before we go to bed at night and DH getting up before me to start the pot.

Which leads to the filter. The Frigidaire has a charcoal filter to filter your tap water for best taste. We're using it now as I test the product, but once it's past its use date, we'll probably not replace it. The coffee maker is smart enough to tell you when it's time to change the filter. It will work without it, but those who don't filter their tap water separately may wish to use filters, and the change filter notification feature is really quite nice.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Drip Coffee Maker I have ever used!, December 1, 2011
This review is from: Frigidaire Professional 12-Cup Drip Coffee Maker (Kitchen)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This makes great cups of coffee! I love my coffee, and it is my little morning indulgence. This coffee pot delivers better than any of the various coffee pots that I have used over the years. From the moment you pull it out of the box, you know you have just received a very well made product.

It has all sorts of convenience factors, as well. It beeps when the pot is done brewing, so there is no guesswork in knowing if the brewing process is over. One thing I experimented on, because I was running low on my favorite coffee was to try adjusting the strength to be able to use less ground coffee with it. I set it on strong, and used enough ground coffee for 8 cups, and the water for a full pot (12 cups). I didn't notice any weakness in the brew, and because of this feature I can now use 1/3 less ground coffee than before!

The gold filter is a nice touch, and the removable filter basket makes for easy cleaning. One thing you will notice when cleaning this unit, is that it is actually made of metal, and not just plastic made to look like metal. This may look similar to other coffee makers out there (I used to have a Gevalia that was very similar at first glance), but this one is much more sturdily made, has more features and just simply makes better coffee in the end.

I plan to use the carbon filters, as it does make a noticeable difference in the flavor of the coffee, when used. If they are not economical, I guess I will have to get one of those brita pitcher filter things. I have looked around and can't seem to find these filters on the market though, so that is currently somewhat of a concern. After searching on the web for the filters, that seems to be the only thing people are worried about with these, and I didn't see anyone that does not like these units for any reason.

If you love coffee (and you wouldn't be here reading this, if you didn't), you can't go wrong with this product. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great coffee maker A++, November 14, 2011

This review is from: Frigidaire Professional 12-Cup Drip Coffee Maker (Kitchen)
This is a replacement for my old Cuisinart coffee maker which I had for about three years. I loved my old one even if It was not avant-garde. However, this new Frigidaire Professional model is a winner. All of the small annoyances of the Cuisinart have been solved by Frigidaire, such as a water level indicator on the outside of the unit, the large LCD display easy to read, great stainless steel look. I find it takes about one minute per cup... 12 minutes for twelve cups, not bad at all. I saw that Frigidaire Professional just produced a 2-slice toaster with similar great appearance so I plan to replace my pop-up two slice toaster to have the same look on my countertop to complement the coffee maker.

I ENTHUSIASTICALLY RECOMMEND IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars Worthy Contender, December 15, 2011

This review is from: Frigidaire Professional 12-Cup Drip Coffee Maker (Kitchen)
Have had numerous brands of coffee pots (Bunn, Cusinart, Mr. Coffee, Hamilton Beach) and this is one of the better ones. Attractive, nice features, real stainless steel exterior and a large clock. Also seems to be well constructed.

Just read one review where the reviewer listed 9 things she liked about this coffee pot and only one thing she didn't like...the fact that her carafe had a crack and as a result it leaked. Sorry to disagree with that reviewer's rating, but a cracked carafe is not a negative of this coffee maker, as a the coffee maker was not manufactured with a cracked carafe. This is a very nice coffee pot, reasonably priced and since I have been careful to not crack my carafe, I have no leaks or dripping when pouring a cup of coffee. This coffee maker does have an auto pause function.

This is a good coffee pot, at least thus far, and have no negatives to report. Would buy again.

4.0 out of 5 stars gets the job done, December 13, 2011
This review is from: Frigidaire Professional 12-Cup Drip Coffee Maker (Kitchen)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I have been using this coffee maker for about 3 weeks now and am satisfied with its performance. The menu allows for a nice variety of settings (strength of brew, heat of water, etc.) that is reminscient of coffee pots at some of the offices I've worked at. The attractive design looks sleek and modern.

I was skeptical of the "gold cone" permanent coffee filter, but it gets the job done and I haven't had any coffee grounds leak through. Cleanup is a breeze since all the removable parts can go into the dishwasher without issue.

Not sure what to think about the charcoal filter that goes into the water supply, but if it's anything like Brita's products it's probably expensive. Can't say I will buy a new one when it expires.

One gripe: I hate pouring water from the carafe into the water supply area. The lid that swings open on top of the coffee maker doesn't swing open far enough to make filling the water supply area easy. I ALWAYS spill some water on the counter when pouring the carafe into it. Annoying and a needless design error.

Overall, is it worth $80 for this model? I guess so. But something tells me that for a little more money you could get something more flashy.

4.0 out of 5 stars I'll Keep It Simple, December 12, 2011
This review is from: Frigidaire Professional 12-Cup Drip Coffee Maker (Kitchen)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I won't get into all the nitty gritty details, instead I'll keep this review simple. I like this coffee maker.

I had a Keurig, it was actually an older model, and it kept getting clogged. No amount of cleaning seemed to help, their customer service said they could look at it, but it was $50 plus the cost of repairs. At that point it would make more sense to just get a new one! So, I looked and came across this one.

When I received it from Amazon it was well packed, but there was no instruction manual. Not sure if Frigidaire does that for a reason, perhaps to be more green, I don't know, but no big deal. The coffee maker is very user friendly, and/or you can just do on their website and download it. I set up the coffee maker the first night I had it to brew at 6:30 the next morning, and sure enough I came down to the smell of coffee brewing.

I like the filter, or rather the filter basket. No more messing with those little K-Cups, or the paper filters, and the built in Water filtration system seems to work wonderfully. I can select the strength of my coffee with the touch of a button.

This coffee maker brews quickly and you can choose how long you want to keep your coffee warming for. I usually set it for two hours. Yesterday I got another cup about 90 minutes after my first, and the coffee was piping hot, just how I want it.

The only issue I have with this coffee maker is that there is a small bubble in the silicone around the top of the pot, so that when I pour the coffee the carafe leaks. Not a HUGE deal, I can just pour it over my sink, though if I entertain, I would not pour if for my guest. When I tried to call Frigidaire to see about getting a replacement it was an ordeal! Ridiculous to be exact. I used the email form on the website and was given a number to call for small appliances. When I did and finally got someone on the line, I was told they don't even handle Frigidaire, and to call this other number. Ok, called that number, it was for appliances, NOT small appliances, got transferred again. This time I was told to call another number, and on and on. Overall, it took me about 45 minutes to even get to the right place and then I was told that since it is a new product they do not have replacement parts yet.

I will continue to use this, as frankly, I like the coffee it makes, but Frigidaire's customer service left something to be desired.

4.0 out of 5 stars Seems good, but where are the filters for sale?, December 11, 2011

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I hate those long reviews that just restate all of the specs that are clear on the product page, and this coffee maker can be summed up easily without that:

1) I assume it's the high-temp brewing, but it makes good strong coffee.
2) It looks nice and seems well built, though I haven't been using it long enough to know yet.
3) I've been using a Braun that took Brita filters, and I like not filtering the water before putting into the coffee pot. But I don't find the filters for this one available yet, and am wondering what they'll cost. Right now I use pre-filtered water.
4) I like the fact that the control panel is near the top and not the bottom, Just a preference but it works for me.
5) I wouldn't want to try to fill it were it sitting sort of under a counter.
6) I can't speak to the temp control of the hot plate, as the moment it's done brewing (and I like the beep), I drink some of it and put the rest into a thermos, so it never sits on the plate but for a couple of minutes.

I'm curious to see how well it holds up over time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Coffee Maker - Frigidaire Gets it Right!, December 8, 2011
This review is from: Frigidaire Professional 12-Cup Drip Coffee Maker (Kitchen)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
We've been using this coffee pot daily since we received the item from the Amazon Vine program nearly 3 weeks ago. And to date, I'm very satisfied with this product.

First, it looks beautiful on the countertop - this is by far the "prettiest" coffee maker that I've seen so far. It fits beautifully on my countertop and the screen looks very "high tech" :)

The settings are very easy to figure out - the timer setting is straight forward, as is the setting for how long to keep the pot on, the coffee strength, and the temperature of the carafe - all very very easy to set - it took me about 2 minutes to complete.

All in all, the coffee tastes great! The water level indicator on the outside of the unit FINALLY makes it easy to brew that perfect cup of coffee! And not only that, but this machine brews the coffee slightly differently - instead of the drip stream through the filter, it distributes the water evenly to ensure the best tasting coffee! (For an example of this; my old coffee maker used to have this "funnel" in the coffee grinds - where the stream of water hit, this coffee maker does not do that to the cofee grinds in the filter - as it distributes the water evenly over the whole filter of the coffee).

If you are looking for not only a stylish coffee maker that will look great on your countertop, but a good machine to give you awesome tasting coffee, look no further! My Cuisinart is in the cabinet, and this Frigidaire is on the countertop!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great coffee maker !!, December 22, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Frigidaire Professional 12-Cup Drip Coffee Maker (Kitchen)
We love our coffee, our old Bunn NHBB was starting to leak, and lets face it, it's an expensive unit too run having a water heater that runs 24/7. So the search began for it's replacement....after much reading and research we ordered the Cuisinart DCC-1200 Brew Central, later that day a friend told me that her's almost caught on fire!!! back to the internet, searched for that model and fire and surprise, surprise....seems the Cuisinart company has had many an issue with smoking/fire...UPS took that one back!! So back to the drawing board, while picking up a laptop that was being repaired at Bestbuy I spied this little beauty, I know the company well, we have several of their products, never any issues. Let's start from the beginning, the unboxing, it is packed really well, after a quick reading of the instructions we ran the initial cleaning run through..and onto the COFFEE!! We were both really impressed with the temperature of the coffee, it is spot on, for a unit without a 24/7 heater it is truely impressive. The carafe heater has two options, regular and hi, we use high and up too two hours later we have hot coffee.
The only negative I can think of is the area where you pour your water in, it is a bit on the small side and fully emptying the carafe can be difficult, but with that being said I will be buying this unit again if and when this unit fails.

FYI...to brew ten cups it takes about 8-9 minutes at regular brew strength (nice option) and you can go do other things while you wait, it beeps three time to let you know it's COFFEE TIME !!!

You'll have too excuse me...I'm off to get another cup of coffee....

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the money., December 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

A great coffee maker.
Pros:
Love the features, carafe is non drip, perfect match with Gallery series, quiet.
Cons:
filling is tight, gold-tone basket is not all that- kind of a hassle - switching to filters, rubber feet work to well - had to remove them so that it would slide nicely on counter top, brew time is longer than other 12 cup units - takes almost 20 minutes, would be nice it the screen stayed lit when the unit is off because it is difficult to read the time.

Many cons for 5 stars, but I owned several different units and glad I spent the extra money on this one.
