failure after one YEAR! follow up review 1 star!,

purchased this unit for our bedroom slider window. excellent price, easy install, cools great. much better than a portable. so if you have a slider or casement and are considering a portable- don't! they just don't cool as well.
the only detractor here is that if your window is over 40" tall you will need to use something to "plug" the remaining space. our window is 44" so i had to cut a piece of plywood to plug the gap. not too big of a deal as the window is in the back of our house on the side and we have a mini blind and curtain so you can't see the plywood inside the room. the unit fits the window snugly with no air gaps and i screwed the supplied window "plug" to the plywood and then used some canned foam sealant to fill in any invisible gaps from the outside. if your window is 40" or shorter it should fit perfectly. EAGLE delivery service was also great. all in all i figure we saved at least $150 with amazon and the free shipping over buying locally once you figure in local CA. sales tax. HERE's THE FOLLOW UP! well, not even a year later and the unit is D.O.A. and this was after ONE warranty repair in October. in August the unit no longer cooled during the hottest time of the year here in Socal. we got it back from the repair center and i turned it on yesterday and it worked fine, today it is already D.O.A. again... unfortunately it is now out of warranty. as another reviewer noted quality is the issue here. for the price i expected much more than a few months of service. when it worked it WAS great. when your unit fails do yourself a favor and since you have the window bracket in place already- just buy a $100 window unit and turn it sideways. even if it fails after a year it's better than replacing it with another $300+ hunk of trash.

Energy Star is nice - Quality not so much,

Eagerly awaited the arrival of this unit, and we have it permanently mounted into the window of our kids room - its once of the only machines that would fit our 50's Andersen casements without carpentry work - the machine works fine, its fairly quiet, and the Energy Star features are nice - it does maintain temperature while switching the compressor AND fan on and off. My gripe is quality - for a machine that's almost $400, every seam is askew, the interior insulation is visible through the front, the panels are all warped, the front isn't aligned with the sides, there are gaps in the frame to the sides of the machine, and the outside air vent was pretty much broken from the get-go - its always open. I'd buy another - but only because I'd HAVE to.

This A/C unit cools very quickly in my large master bedroom. It fits perfectly into the narrow window I have.(15.5 inches wide) The best features are the timers. I am able to set a cooling time for the unit to turn on, and I never have to worry about forgetting and entering a hot room. There's also a timer that can be set for the unit to shut-off as well. It also features an "energy saver" mode, which allows the unit to temporarily turn off when the room has reached the desired temperature, which saves $$$!

Thing says it's for a 350 sq ft space...mine is a lot bigger with 12 ft ceilings and it has been cool as a cucumber since I installed this AC. Real quiet. My only beef is that if you have a casement window that isn't exactly the same width as the unit itself, there isn't much there to stabilize it so it doesn't fall out....you kindof have to build a wood frame thinger...but that's didn't really bother me that much.

Very Happy With This Unit,

This review is from: Frigidaire Window-Mounted Slider/Casement Air Conditioner, 8000 BTUs, FAK085R7V (Kitchen)
I have had this unit for 1 year now am very happy with it. I was glad to find that someone made a casement unit with a high EER. Amazon shipping was very fast, faster than estimated. Others have written about poor quality and I can't say that for certain. My unit did arrive with a slight bulge in the front metal housing, and a small crack in the plastic front at the upper right. Actually in inspecting the packaging it looked to me like it had at sometime (in handling) been dropped. I guess I might have complained, except it was hot and I really wanted to get this unit installed,
The instruction are very poor...but that seems to be the pattern with all new products. The price last year was $350 with shipping, so the price has gone up about 10%. Based on other reviews on Amazon I did purchase the extended warranty which cost me $32, but I have not needed to use it. I recommend this unit if you have slider or casement windows. The high EER is a plus, I like the remote, the unit cools well, and it is not too noisy.

So far so good,

I have not had the quality issues that some of the reviewers have experienced. I have had it installed and working for about a week. So far, so good. One, complaint, the installation instructions are junk. Poorly written and hard to follow. The instructions are in two parts, one for regular windows and one for casement windows. So, they both cover many of the same things. However, the instructions differ in area's that have nothing to do with window type. Also, some of the instructions are just wrong. For example, there is a plastic sheet that must be cut if your window height is too tall. The instructions tell you to cut along the wrong side of the rectangular sheet. Big mistake.
I would have expected much better from Frigidaire.

I've had this AC for alomost a month and I really can't say a bad thing about it. I love the Energy Star mode which I leave on during the day when we are not home, its not running all day long but its cool when you get home after work, so we should be saving on electricity. It cools pretty much the whole other side of my apartment. We could not use the bracket that came with it, our window sil would not allow us to screw it in. But the side panels that came with it which we screwed right into the AC unit itself seems to hold it up pretty well, very secure. It's quiet too, not too loud at all, perfect for sleeping. When you have to clean the filter, it tells you to check the filter so there is no guessing there. All in all, it is a good AC unit. Happy to have purchased it, good price too I think for a vertical AC unit.

The product is fine, but the delivery was terrible. The unit was beat to hell with dings and huge dents all over. We have to pop out the dents in order to install it.
I would have returned it, but it was so hot and the unit was needed immediately.

Packaging not suitable for shipment,
This review is from: Frigidaire Window-Mounted Slider/Casement Air Conditioner, 8000 BTUs, FAK085R7V (Kitchen)
Per other reviews, packaging for this unit is not suitable for shipment, mine arrived with a broken face place, and bent mounting components. Little surprise given the box is not suitable for UPS style shipping, very little protection for the unit. Unit itself is suitable for our needs, with no too much noise.
