These are great refrigerator pitchers for two main reasons:

1.) They are heavy duty glass, so unlike plastic they will not absorb flavors, odors and colors from what you put in them.

2.) They have a hermetic seal, so the flavor of your product stays in while other refrigerator odors stay out. Definitely a fresher taste for a longer duration. These...

These are great for milk. (I can't stand those plastic jugs and the milk in glass jars at the grocery is just too expensive to buy every time.)

In response to one reviewer: Regarding the seal, there is actually a trick to sealing it properly. If you just place the lid on the container it will probably not seal. If you hold the outside of the lid and twist the middle handle in the proper direction (it is marked "CLOSE" on the lid) then you will end up with a perfectly tight seal. If you do not hold the outside while doing this, the entire lid may spin and will not seal, you need the outer edge of the lid to stay in place - so hold it there with your fingertips while you twist the top.

It is actually very easy once you understand the concept. Hold the outside, twist the top.

Now for the minor down-side: These do measure in LITERS, not quarts or gallons as most Americans are used to so adjustments to recipes would have to be made and you may have to use more than one pitcher if transferring gallons & such. I have spent so much money searching for a worthy refrigerator pitcher and never did find one. I came across these Italian imports for only $4.99 and $7.99 each at the C*ntainer St*re and I am going to buy more for sure.

Also, one reviewer mentioned that it was difficult to grasp the handle. I have large hands for a female and I can still manage to hold it easily, but my fiance who is 6'4" and 240 lbs. complained about the handle as well. Just be careful while holding it, I think they are still the best ever!

I will definitely recommend these to my friends & family.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Refrigerator Pitcher, March 5, 2007
This review is from: Frigoverre Pitcher 2 Liter
*****

These pitchers are very sturdy and heavy. They fit beautifully on the inside door of my refrigerator. They don't leach chemicals into my beverages, either. They take up very little space (they are squared not rounded so they fit well all lined up) and are attractive. If you are looking for a healthy option to plastic, this is it. They also have a nice snug lid to keep things fresh. The lid can be turned to an "open" position like many pitchers so that the lid doesn't have to be removed to pour.

The pitchers are attractive and not chinsy-looking like plastic pitchers. Buy more than one not only to save on shipping and handling, but because you'll want more for sure! I bought six and am very happy with them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Glass Pitcher, June 29, 2007
This review is from: Frigoverre Pitcher 2 Liter
I bought 2 of these to keep water chilled in the frig and they work nicely. You wouldn't want them any larger or they would be too heavy, especially for kids. I read reviews where people said the lid was to loose, but they didn't read the instructions. You have to push down and twist for a snug fit. We don't even use the lids- so not an issue!

What's good about this pitcher:

What I don't like about it:
It is really heavy with liquid in it.
While I can hold onto the handle I agree
with other reviewer that it's a strangely
short handle, but probably would work for
most people.
The spout is NOT well designed for pouring.
I find with this spout, you are better off
pouring fast and purposely because otherwise
it will dribble. And/or get the glass right
under the lip of the spout to try and avoid
the spillage. I think the spout needs to be
more defined or something.

5.0 out of 5 stars Please read before buying, February 6, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Frigoverre Pitcher 2 Liter
Bought three pitchers (1 x 2 liter, 2 x 1 liter). I wanted a square, heavy duty, well designed and functional pitcher that could survive the rigors of living in the fridge. There is nothing chintzy or nonsensical about these puppies. Heavy duty glass, space saving handle and spout which doesn't protrude past the body. No advanced engineering degree necessary to lock the lid either. Just press and turn. Most importantly, the lid stays put when I turn the 2 liter pitcher upside down to give my OJ a vigorous shake before pouring. Square design saves space in the fridge. Spout is a marriage between functionality and necessity. The "stubby" design protects it from getting banged up. Pouring is straight forward and no mystery if you don't make a meal out of it. Just put cup, glass, etc. under! the spout and let'er rip. Overall an excellent fridge pitcher (not much to look at though)that gets the job done.

I'm befuddled by some of the negative/critical reviews. If the pitcher is too heavy when full, get a smaller pitcher or don't fill it all the way. The lid has an O-ring but no groove(s) it can lock into. Hence, you have to push down to get a firm seal when locking. I found the handle design actually more conducive to lifting the pitcher when heavy. In short, this is an excellent pitcher that I would strongly recommend to anyone who is in the market for a quality utility pitcher.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I needed., March 25, 2009
This review is from: Frigoverre Pitcher 2 Liter
I bought two of these to save space in the refrigerator. The hermetically sealing lid works great. I turned the filled and sealed pitcher upside down (over the sink) and shook vigorously with no leakage. The instructions are very clear about how to seal the lid and include three pictures. The handle leaves only 1/2 inch for your fingers. I'm a big guy and it works fine for me. I know folks with bigger hands. Of my two samples, one has a little more space.

The thing easily holds two quarts and even 12oz more if you push it. The footprint is 5" x 5" and the handle takes another inch. The height is only 7.5" which is the main reason I bought it.

The weight of 2.75 lb (empty) might be too much for some, but I'm glad to have a sturdy, freezable, microwavable pitcher which probably won't break easily.

I love Amazon and buy almost everything there, even if it's a little more expensive. In this case, I thought the item was way over priced so I got it much cheaper from the Con+ainer S+ore, even with shipping.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pitcher with good features, April 23, 2010
This review is from: Frigoverre Pitcher 2 Liter
Firstly, I want to clear up the misunderstanding about this pitcher's lid seal. The lid is a very good design that does indeed seal water and air tight- people just aren't understanding how it works. To seal the lid, hold the outer edge of the lid and turn its center handle clockwise- reverse to unseal. Tightening the lid's center handle pushes its O-Ring seal out so it grips and seals against the the pitchers wall.

Things I like about this pitcher:
Very compact for a 2.5 quart pitcher.
Glass and plastic lid feel well made and sturdy.
Lid can be adjusted to seal tightly, or just enough to make it easy to pop out if you're going to be pouring frequently.
The mouth is 3 1/4 inches which is plenty big enough for my 'man-hands' to get into when it comes time to wash the pitcher.

Things that aren't great about this pitcher:
You have to remove the lid to pour.
The spout seems to dribble a little more than it should if you aren't careful.
Its handle is a little close to the pitcher wall. My fingers (large-ish man) will only fit into the available space to where the handle is between my 1st and 2nd finger joints, but it doesn't makes me feel like I'm going to drop the pitcher at all. On the contrary, the small handle gap fits my fingers snugly and feels very secure.

Overall, I am very satisfied with this pitcher (I bought two) and it's unique good points far outweigh its minor setbacks.

This a a very lovely and functional pitcher. Hold the glass your pouring into close to the lip of the pitcher and you'll have no problems. Excellent for those working their way to a healthier kitchen free of petroleum based storage containers.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's for making my yogurt, July 8, 2010
This review is from: Frigoverre Pitcher 2 Liter
I selected this pitcher for its size, glass construction, and hermetically sealed lid.

What am I doing with it? Making yogurt, the Alton Brown way. No need for a fancy one-hit-wonder yogurt maker. And, this works GREAT. Could I have used a jar? Yes, but I like that I can use this for other things too. Its large opening allows for easy cleaning. There's no smell or flavor transfer because it's glass, and because of the hermetically sealing lid. **Thanks to all the people here who explained how to close the lid properly, or I would have been totally confused**

It fits nicely in the fridge, on the shelf, or in the door. It's strong, and I have no doubt that it will last for years and years. If you are physically challenged, you may prefer to have 2 one-liter size pitchers instead, as this pitcher gets heavy once it is full. Frigoverre/Bormioli Rocco makes them as well. They are all made in Italy, not China (how nice)!

I bought mine at a local "organizational store," just like another reviewer. It was much cheaper than online, anywhere, including the crazy shipping prices! I paid $7.99, plus tax. I like that I can use this pitcher for a multitude of tasks, yogurt being just one. Even if you're not making yogurt, it's a pretty darn good item. I do wish it was opaque glass. Vitamins (like in milk) are light sensitive and when packaged in clear containers, lose almost all of their value very quickly. Buy and store your milk in opaque containers.

Other than that, I am very happy with my purchase. I hope you will be with yours.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Little Pitcher, May 4, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Frigoverre Pitcher 2 Liter
This is a great little pitcher, made of sturdy thick Italian glass, an easy to use lid that when "screwed" on appropriately seals very tight (no leaks). No problem with the pouring spout, if you place your glass right underneath it. Handle is well placed. When I first received the item I thought it was so small, that there was no way it would hold 2 liters of liquid, measured it out and by golly it sure does. This works great for making sun tea! Love it, may have to get a few more for friends and family!
