Fringe is a fantastic and truly incredible TV show that was (sadly) cancelled before it could fully finish up, but happily stayed with fans and other TV show-lovers in its strong 5-season run. What really helps make this show stand out even more, though, other than the impressive writing, directing, acting and visual effects, is the music score.

The music of Fringe has developed over the course of the show, and not just with themes and tone. It first began as a passion project with J.J. Abrams and his constant collaborator, Michel Giacchino with help from Chris Tilton and Chad Seiter. Then, when Season 3 rolled around, Michael Giacchino left to pursue other projects in film and J.H. Wyman took over as showrunner. The music didn't necessarily get better with Seiter and Giacchino gone, but instead became more recognizable. Tilton has a very distinct tone with music, and with Fringe, if you randomly heard it one day you could say, "That's Chris Tilton's music from Fringe!" Besides being recognizable, the music to Fringe is very defining. The show is like a modern-day/near future X-Files, but without the "monster-of-the-week" episodes. So, Tilton composed the music to fit the show and its standards. In the opening track "The Skill of the Chase," it marks a key moment in the show when Olivia Dunham is chasing down a known terrorist. It's quickly followed up by "A Protest in September," when one of the Observers (September) deactivates a device that was used to completely erase someone's existence; the track is a very emotional and somber track that fans are surely to tear up at. Other tracks in the soundtrack have either darker, quieter or more haunting sounds as well as fast-paced music to signify an action sequence.

The Fringe scores get better over time. This is an energetic and emotional collection of electronically infused string tracks that showcases all the major Fringe thematic elements. A packed CD with 78 minutes of music. A solid piece of TV scoring and definitely season 4 is one that a fan should have.

Love it as much as I love the season 3 OST. 30 beautiful, intense tracks. :)
For every Fringe fan definitely a good choice, for lovers of instrumental music as well.
