This very short book is an affectionate retelling of a father's bicycle trip across the country in 1923. Starting in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and ending in Los Angeles, the narrative follows the young Frank Kolbe as he sets out to see the world for the first time. The simple, straight-forward writing reflects the author's sincere desire to elevate the memory of his father and his adventures. Light reading, but fun.

I am a grandson of Frank P. Kolbe. This short book is the compilation of newspaper articles written by Frank Kolbe in 1923 (and published in the local paper at the time). Frank's youngest son, William Kolbe (my uncle), compiled the news stories into this book . It is a fun read, especially if you know the characters (as I do). My sister and I rode across the country in 1994, , approximately following my grandfather's route. Our mother, Mary Lou (Frank's oldest daughter and William's older sister), rode with us from Westboro, MA to Doylestown, PA and then followed beside us in the family car. An article in August 1st, 1994 edition of the LA Times, titled Riding for Redemption, give some details about our story.
