5.0 out of 5 stars He fought many a good man....
Although Fritz's creator Robert Crumb supposedly wasn't so crazy about this film, I gotta say this is definitely the masterpiece its rumored to be... What's so wild about it (besides the incredibly funky Hammond organ laden Jazz soundtrack featuring the likes of Charles Earland and Merle Saunders) is that although it was made on the '70s and was a saracastic and twisted...

3.0 out of 5 stars A shocking but very entertaining film...
The story concerns a classic 60's hero, Fritz, and his adventures through the urban underground... He loves sex and constantly claims and declares the glories of revolution... At first he is happy with just sex, but as the story moves through exotic adventures he discovers that the only way he can truly be a revolutionary is to join up with one of the militant groups...

Although Fritz's creator Robert Crumb supposedly wasn't so crazy about this film, I gotta say this is definitely the masterpiece its rumored to be... What's so wild about it (besides the incredibly funky Hammond organ laden Jazz soundtrack featuring the likes of Charles Earland and Merle Saunders) is that although it was made on the '70s and was a saracastic and twisted take on the '60s the film is anything but dated, even with all the student revolutionary, free love and pot smoking in it... In fact, I think its gotten even funnier with time... and if you're old enough to remember some of the "types" in this film... its even more funnier (or perhaps scarier.)... What freaked me out was when I realized that even BLUE the meth addict neo-nazi motorcycle gang biker and his *literally* fat cow girlfriend reminded me of some real people - - Though there aren't a lot of extra features, the trailer for the film is pretty wild and cool itself...Overall, Fritz the Cat, being one of those films who's scenes you watch over and over and over again is DEFINITELY worth getting... especially on DVD... The kicks never wear off...

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic Animated Feature, October 13, 2003
By
Now this film isn't for every one. The orgie scene alone will probably offend half of Americans out there, but if you can look beyond all of it you can enjoy one of the most classic American animated films of all time. And yes, I dare call it that.

Fritz the Cat is not only a classic for bringing Ralph Bakshi into the Hollywood fray, but it also does some thing few American animated films accomplish: it presents a time in America and the founding ideologies and feelings of that period. Drugs, free love, government, the Middle East, racism...its all there. "Oliver and Company" may have some nice shots of New York City, but Fritz the Cat captures the look and feel of the city and its people better than that film ever could.

Ralph Bakshi is one of my idol animators, and I believe this is one of his landmark films. It will remain a classic, whether some people want it to or not.

5.0 out of 5 stars 'Fritz The Cat' (MGM Studios) Running time: 79 minutes, October 18, 2005
Originally released in 1972.I,personally remember seeing this cult classic in a drive-in as well as at a midnight movie(sure miss those anymore;guess since everyone has a DVD player, there's so little call for such). There's STILL something to be said for viewing a movie on a twenty-five foot silver screen.Anyway,'Fritz The Cat' has to be one of the best ever counter-culture flicks ever made.Liked it better than any of the Cheech&Chong movies, except for maybe 'Up In Smoke'.Takes place in New York in the late '60's where good-for-nothing feline Fritz is on a full time search for the sex, drugs and rock&roll lifestyle. The voices in this movie fit right in.Before the likes of Beavis&Butthead,South Park and Family Man,there was this satire.Great animation,I thought.Well worth repeated views. One should enjoy many plays in future years to come.Highly recommended.Ideal humor for aging hippies, former bikers, acid heads and late nighters who don't work at a regular job.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fritz is my kind of cat...., September 11, 2006
This film is hilarious. I've always really dug Bakshi's work. I always felt he is an underrated and underappreciated filmmaker. Many have said this work is dated, but I don't believe so. This is a satire of hippies and political correctness (before the term existed), and on that basis, it's hilarious to see really how full of s--t those people were then (and now). The speech where Fritz goes off on intellectuals trying to outdo all the other f---ing intellectuals is really potent. And seeing Fritz hang out with black people (who are represented by crows here) is hilarious. Fritz was the original wigger! Fritz, like a lot of people from this generation, didn't really care about the problems of the day. They just wanted to party and get laid. It's like the Zappa album "We're Only In It For the Money". This film appeals to my cynical nature. It's a great film. And seeing an X rated animated film was cool too....

5.0 out of 5 stars This movie has stayed with me since 1972, September 17, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I was senior in high school when I saw this movie, we had to drive to the only x-rated drive in the area. I never saw anything like it, and I loved it. I think this movie broke down some barriers so we could have shows like "The Simpsons", "King of the Hill" and "South Park". The adult element in animated
features is something that was much needed, before this all we had was Bugs Bunny. It's trail blazing material like this that keeps me coming to the theaters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super-Hip Outta Site Dolemite, November 25, 2000
By
Fritz is a student at New York University. He meets a couple of chicks (and pussies and poodles) in Washington Square Park and induces them home for a bath-tub orgy. Pigs (cops) break up the action and chase Fritz into a synagogue. He escapes and returns to his pad where he burns his books (and consequently his school) and then flees to Harlem. There he makes the aquaintance of Duke, a black crow. Together they steal a car and zip over to a party at Big Bertha's where Fritz gets stoned and ends up in bed with BB herself. He then mounts a car roof and delivers an impassioned lecture to a group of crows about the need to rise up against the white oppressors. A riot ensues and friend Duke is killed. Fritz then splits for the coast in feline friend Winsten's VW. Out of gas somewhere betweeen here and there, he sets off to hitch to the nearest town, where he meets a gang of Hell's Angels who enlist him in their scheme to blow up America. Fritz goes along as fas as the power plant in question, then he decides to chicken out. But the female biker with him won't let this happen - she orders Fritz to lay a stick of dynmite behind a girder and then lights the fuse, causing Fritz and the power plant to go off with a bang. Fritz lands in the hospital but won't be daunted - swathed in bandages - he conducts a bed-ridden orgy with his female vistors. ** A CULT CLASSIC 5/5 SQUIRTS

5.0 out of 5 stars a cult classic, March 26, 2002
By
A crudely animated , poorly produced animated feature of tasteless humor , raunchy situations , and drugged out mania just happens to be my favorite animated film ever. Fritz is a two faced college dropout who wants to "bug out" and live each day as if it was his last , and pretty much every day in his life is almost his last as he burns his school , steals a car and goes on a crazy spin through the streets of Harlem wrecking anything in his path , insights a black riot , and finally blows up a power plant landing him in the hospital ..only to be awakened for a orgy on his hospital bed. Even though this film still carries an X rating it is very very tame by today's standards , not to mention very outdated. The animation is somewhat poor but it adds to the grittyness of the NY setting ..however the psychadelic color use in the background gets very very annoying..and it also contains some long scenes that would be better off cut (the Crowe dancing to Bo Didly , and the Rabbi's reading in the synagogue) but this film remains a cult classic nonetheless and should at least be viewed by anyone with an open mind or with a fondness for adult animation.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is a very weird movie!, September 12, 2002

Thames Goodwin (Hickam AFB, HI United States) - See all my reviews
Now, I understand that movies were very obscure during the '70s (the transition from the psychedlic '60s to the extravagant '80s was a very logical progression), I mean you have exploitation films, movies with a tremendous amount of nudity, and ultra-violence, what more could you want in a decade? While I was not alive during the time this movie was released I read a review in "Playboy", and I had figured I had better see this movie to decide for myself. Even by today's standards, this is a very bizarre film, I wish I would have watched this on acid (I would have enjoyed it a lot more, pretty colors anyone). I almost fell on the floor laughing a few times the first time I saw this.

Fritz is a student at NYU, who is bored with life and wants to try something new, unfortunately (to our delight), he bites off a lot more than he can chew. There's a wild ride through Harlem, cartoon orgies, drug use, and cops portrayed as pigs (literally), what else do you need. See this movie!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it, January 19, 2007
I was so excited to be able to find this lost icon. I gave it away as a Christmas gift to a friend on Christmas Eve. We all sent the kids out of the room and we all watched it. We were amazed at how the politics ring true almost 40 years later. We all had a blast! Fritz is still a cool cat!

4.0 out of 5 stars Adult Animation, September 4, 2000
By
When it comes to adult animation, this is probably the movie that started it all. Ralph Bakshi treats us to the sleazy misadventures of Fritz, a horny, crafty kitty, who travels the dank, rough and tumble bowers of the big city, perpetually in search of more pussy, er, I mean other female cats to boink. Great fun, uniquely drawn, a true classic. Animal sex never looked so good.
