This review is from: The Frog Alphabet Book (Jerry Pallotta's Alphabet Books) (Paperback)
Learning the alphabet can be a tedious chore. Thankfully, Mr. Pallotta and Mr. Masiello have made it sooo much easier with their work, "The Frog Alphabet Book"!!

Each page is beautifully illustrated with very realistic pictures of frogs, salamanders, newts and other amphibians in their natural habitat. One could easily use the book for a field guide if one could go to all the exotic places these fascinating creatures live. There's the Fire-bellied Toad, who looks as if it's wearing nail polish. There's the strange looking Olm, which is a blind salamander that lives in dark caves. There's the Japanese Giant Salamander, which seems to be as big as a young man, and on and on through the 26 letters of the alphabet.

The text is brief but informative as it tells a bit about each frog and where it comes from and the back page has a little extra information about three types of amphibians (did you even know there WERE three types?? Surprise!!)

Though the title is a bit misleading-there are over 10 amphibians that are not frogs, including tadpoles and the Undiscovered Frog (species that no doubt exist but have not been found yet)-it is a beautiful book and a fine addition to any classroom or home. Even children and students who are very well versed with the alphabet will enjoy reading this book for it's fine, colorful and sometimes strange-looking creatures that breathe both air and water.

4.0 out of 5 stars really an amphibian book more than a frog book, March 18, 2003

This is a wonderful book! I checked it out of the library because my son (2 1/2) is obsessed with frogs, and he loves it. It is on the long side, and I'm not sure I would recommend it for kids just learning their alphabet, but it does have soem good information in it. My only actual complaint about the book is that I'm not fond of some of the comments that are meant to be light-hearted, but that's my personal taste more than anything.

I really like The Frog Alphabet Book.I think the book is for children of all ages. You might think this book is just for little kids, but it's not. It's a great study guide. The book also includes my favorite frog, the Poison Dart frog. TUSAhe book and the illustrations are really creative. Try reading it!

5.0 out of 5 stars We love frogs...and the alphabet, April 5, 2009

This book was a lot of fun for us. The illustrations are very well done and look almost photographic. We read about many different frogs and some newts, salamandars, etc. Because of the scope of the book there wasn't a lot of information, but there was enough for me to call it science that day and feel like we'd done something!

The boys were laughing outloud at some of the authors little jokes and asked me to read it again immediately after we finished.

I think a lot of beginning readers would do well with this book. Some of the animal names might be hard, but the rest of the language would be appropriate.

I highly recommend this book (and most of Jerry Pallotta's other books) for a fun, semi-informative read.
