The venue is Southern California, but the conflict revolves around the interests of certain Arabs and Israelis in this mid-1980s thriller.

A wealthy, cultured Iranian family now living in the U.S. is being blackmailed because someone has found out that they are actually illegal aliens. Discovery would mean deportation back to Iran, which would be a death sentence for them. The family calls upon Fiddler, an ex-violinist with a talent for dealing with danger, to find out who the blackmailers are. In the process, Fiddler becomes involved with an aging Mossad operative and his beautiful but haunted daughter.

The story is fast-paced and engrossing, but the political attitudes of the characters seem dated now (which is the reason for only 3 stars). The exciting action climax was fun to read.

I am a big fan of this author and have read everything she and her husband have written. This series is my favorite. Love the setting, and the characters, and enjoy the plot twists.

This book for extremely action packed with a very interesting storyline. It kept me captivated all the way through without becoming predictable. There was just enough "love" interest to soften the harshness of the story.

Good, enjoyable read in the Elizabeth Lowell fashion. I like the characters of Fiddler and Fiora and the focus on the plot rather than the strained romance.

This is one of eight books in the Fiddler and Fiora series. I have just read them all in sequence
- and I like every one of them.
These are early books by Lowell under her Ann Maxwell pen name, written in conjunction with he husband. Read in sequence, they describe the on again - off again relationship between Fiddler and his ex-wife (but still lover) Fiora. They have the complication of Fiddler's borderline-legal attempts to help peolpe out of trouble, especially in dealing with both white-collar and drug-related criminals.
These are very enjoyable short reads.

this is a book with enough going on but is still a very easy and fun read. Fiddler is a great character and it fun to see what he will get up to next.

This was such a fun book to read! I love Elizabeth Lowell but did not know about these other books so I ordered this one just to see what it would be like and I absolutely fell in love with this series. Will most certainly order more of them!
