By now, you're hooked...,
This review is from: Frog and Toad All Year (I Can Read Book 2) (Paperback)
If you've read the first two books in the Frog and Toad series, by now you and your child are hooked! This book, published in 1976, is the third of four books about Frog and Toad, written by Arnold Lobel. This book has five stories, starting and ending with Winter tales. As usual, Toad is a bit negative and nervous, while Frog is calm, positive and dedicated to being a very good friend to Toad. In "Down the Hill", Frog gets Toad to come outside and try sledding down a hill with him. Toad goes reluctantly along, and for a moment enjoys the ride. Frog gets bumped off the sled, and Toad still enjoys the adventure until he realizes he's alone. He decides Winter is best spent inside. The next story is about a story told from Frog to Toad, one rainy day when they are wishing Spring was here. Frog promises that Spring is just around "The Corner." "Ice Cream" is a funny story about what happens when Toad buys ice cream cones for himself and Frog, and carries them a long way on a very hot day. "The Surprise" is a story about what happens when two friends try to do something special for a friend, in secret. The last story, "Christmas Eve", has a worried Toad frantically searching for his best friend, sure that something terrible has happened. It has a happy ending, of course! The stories are short, sweet and about friendship, but in a simple manner. Drawings of Frog and Toad are on almost every page, and are detailed enough to warrant a lengthy view and some comments from young readers. The words are understandable and readable enough for very young readers, yet they manage to tell a story with an amusing message.

If you are scared of being alone, well, you might pick Frog and Toad All Year by Arnold Lobel. Find out if Toad will ever learn how to be alone.
In the beginning, Toad was so nervous to be alone in the sled. So Frog was behind him. There was a big bump and Frog fell out. Toad was still on the sled. And he went by himself all the way to the bottom. Toad learned that being alone is not that bad, and you don't have to be scared. If you like this book you might pick others in the series. There is Frog and Toad are Friends and Days with Frog and Toad.

Frog and Toad are classic, and WONDERFUL. If you love Frog and Toad, you need to know Arnold Lobel's daughter collaborated to create a Broadway musical based on these books, and the CD with the songs from the musical ("A Year With Frog and Toad") is a MUST have for every child. We have given so many copies as gifts I've lost count, and everyone (adult and child alike) LOVES the CD. It has all the charm and humor of the books, and it brings the characters to life in a lovely and loveable way. Get the CD along with the Frog and Toad books -- the PERFECT gift package for any child age 1 to 8.

Frog And Toad All Year
Hi, if you are a fan of Arnold Lobel's books, and you have not read Frog And Toad All Year, then you might want to read it. If you like ice cream, then you should read page's 30-42. It is about Frog and Toad sitting by a pond Frog wishing for something sweet like ice cream. Toad thinks that is a great idea, so he gets some but before he can make it back it melts. They both go and get more ice cream. But instead of going back, they sit under a tree by the store. I like this chapter is because of the ice cream melting. I liked this book because of the lessons like the lesson in chapter Ice Cream and the lesson is never travel with ice cream on a hot summer day.

I read this when I was very young and it's probably one of the few books (of the many I read) that I can vividly remember. The writing and art are very good and help each other tell the stories. This book made my imagination run wild when I first read it. Cleaning up my old room, I picked it up and read it. I still laugh too!

Young children who are beginning to read longer stories will enjoy these five tales of friends Frog and Toad through the seasons. The stories are: Down the Hill, wherein Frog coaxes Toad out of his warm home for some winter fun; The Corner, in which Frog tells Toad a story on a rainy day; Ice Cream, about a long walk with large ice cream cones; The Surprise, concerning the friends' giving each other a secret good turn a la O. Henry; and Christmas Eve, in which Toad worries about Frog's arrival on a snowy night.Sweet, soothing stories for your little reader.

I loved these books when I was a little girl. I have been buying my son books from when I was a kid to see if it would pass the generation test and they do. A classic is a classic!! My son loves frog & toad books & says "awww... that's nice of frog to do dat"! I love Arnold Lobel's books b/c they have such good messages to teach children about caring, sharing, friendship, thoughtfulness. I feel like I am teaching my child through books about morales without sounding redundant or preachy by saying things again & again myself. I always ask my son questions after reading the stories and he learns from them. I have most of the frog & toad books & a lot of the stories still make me teary... if only, at times, real life could be as beautiful as his stories!

This review is from: Frog and Toad All Year (I Can Read Book) (Hardcover)
Frog and Toad All Year continues in the delightful and thoughtful tradition of Arnold Lobel's books. It has stories for each season and as always they are deceptively simple but actually full of love, truth, good values, and humour. My daughter's, 3 and 5, love them.
