About the Author

Max Velthuijs (1923–2005) is considered to be one of Holland's most important creators of children's books. Among the many awards he received for his books are the prestigious Hans Christian Andersen Award for Illustration, the Dutch Silver Pencil Award and the Dutch Golden Paintbrush, and the American Graphic Award of the Society of Illustrators, the French Prix de Treize. The Max Velthuijs Award has recently been established in the Netherlands for the complete works of children's book illustrators.
