Product Description

FrogTape Delicate Surface Painting Tape is a low adhesion painters tape designed for use on freshly painted surfaces (greater than 24 hours old), faux finishes, primed wallboard and primed wallpaper. It will remove cleanly from most surfaces for up to 60 days. FrogTape is the only tape treated with PaintBlock technology, a super-absorbent technology that reacts with latex paint and instantly forms a micro-barrier that seals the edges of the tape, preventing paint bleed. This results in super sharp paint lines and professional results on baseboards, crown moldings, door and window frames and more. Each roll is 1.88-Inch wide and 60-Yard long. The plastic canister FrogTape comes in keeps it from being damaged (such as the edges being nicked), and keeps dirt and debris off the tape. You can also re-use the empty canister for storage of nuts and bolts, screws, or nails. It is also recyclable.

What Makes FrogTape Brand Painter's Tape Unique?
FrogTape with PaintBlock Technology
Designed for use with latex paints to avoid paint bleeding. View larger

FrogTape is the only painter's tape treated with PaintBlock Technology. PaintBlock is a super-absorbent polymer which reacts with latex paint and instantly gels to form a micro-barrier that seals the edges of the tape, preventing paint bleed. The result: Very sharp paint lines and less time spent on touch-ups. FrogTape is also available in a convenient storage canister. The canister protects the tape edges from being nicked or damaged and keeps the tape free of dirt and debris.

FrogTape with PaintBlock Technology
No special prep work needed, other than a clean, dust free surface that is dry.
Tips For Best Results Using FrogTape
  • Clean the surface to be masked with a mild detergent solution.
  • Make sure the paint surface is dust-free and dry.
  • For accurate placement, adhere FrogTape in short sections to avoid stretching the tape.
  • Make sure FrogTape is flush to the edge that you will be painting.
  • Using a putty knife, or 5-in-1 tool, press the tape you laid to burnish it to the surface you are masking.
  • Remove painting tape immediately after you are finished painting.

I highly recommend both the green and the yellow frog tape.

This tape, in my opinion, has no competition when it comes to creating razor sharp lines with no bleeding.

Frog Tape works well; preferred over the "blue" brand.

After patting myself on the back and elsewhere for a job well-done and fantasizing about how I am King Paint, I have since regained enough sobriety to point the finger of credit away from the mirror and toward the product that made me a legend in my own mind. I had some leftover satin enamel dark brown paint and noticed how cool the door looked contrasted with the frame and the wall that was painted with this color. Poor judge of time that I am, I decided to replicate this feat with 6 more door frames in a hallway. This hallway would eventually receive a light yellowish cream finish: Imagine the eye-popping contrast! Imagine the paint bleed-through! (Distracting note: the cream would cover a pinkish first coat - guess what bled through? Lesson: when you make a poor choice of colors, notice and correct it BEFORE you start painting).

Having everything to loose and nothing to gain, I decided to purchase the yellow frog tape (on sale after the store mark-up), that I had scoffed-at countless times while avoiding it in many stores. "Why is painters' tape packaged in a microwave bowl?" "What's the connection with an amphibian and paint blocking?" "Marketers on drugs." Oh, how quickly I have become a convert! After seeing with my own eyes results that defy all instinctive sarcasm, as far as I'm concerned they can name it whatever they want to! They could change this product's name to "Global Warming Tape" and I would still give it a perfect rating.

I was concerned that this tape would, like all the blue tape I have ever used, rip a portion of the paint from the surface upon removal even though "Low Adhesion" is claimed on its packaging.

I ordered the delicate surface painting tape because I had just painted my daughter's bedroom and I wanted to paint the trim within a couple of days, it was amazing. I used the tape, painted the trim and removed the tape without any paint coming off. It is definitely worth the money.

As a former painting contractor servicing residential and industrial projects, I've had the opportunity to use scores of tools and products to become more efficient and achieve the best results for clients. This tape, in my opinion, has no competition when it comes to creating razor sharp lines with no bleeding. I was recently asked to paint several walls in a home, with wide horizontal stripes. After the first stripes were painted and cured, the client wanted alternate stripes to be a bronze metallic paint that is very thin and difficult to use and must be applied in multiple coats, so I was especially concerned with the likelihood of bleeding. This Yellow Frog Tape performed flawlessly, with no bleeding even as the lines extended around 90 degree corners. I was extremely impressed because I had imagined to achieve that result I would need to carefully just cut the lines in manually like a pin striper does and as I've done many times before a product like this existed. A few reviewers mentioned that they experienced some bleeding, but I respectfully suggest that perhaps their wall might have not been prepped thoroughly and some dust might have been still on the wall that prevented correct adhesion and surface contact. I can't give this product enough praise and only wish it had been available years ago.

First there was that icky beige masking tape. Then came the blue masking tape which is so much easier to remove. Recently I decided to try the yellow Frog Tape (delicate) on a simple job to paint a bedroom - no stripes or anything like that. I simply masked the ceiling, baseboard and trim. I used a little blue tape, also, for comparison. Based on the results, I'll use this tape from now on.

    Pros:

    1) It's thin and semi-transparent, so you have better visibility as you're placing it on the surface. This made it easier to mask the baseboards and ceiling.

    2) It REALLY creates a seal. I neglected to clean the baseboards adequately, so there were spots where neither the frog tape nor the blue tape adhered well. The blue tape allowed some paint to bleed through in these spots, but not the frog tape, which left a crisp straight line.

    3) It comes off the surface even easier than the blue tape.

    Cons:

    1) When I mask, I do it with several pieces of tape about a foot long. I could remove the blue tape in one pull because all these pieces stayed together. The pieces of frog tape would occasionally separate, so it was ever so slightly less convenient in that respect.

I bought half a dozen different tapes for our renovation. This one works best for us. We had some problems with the blue tape that would not give a clean line and would damage paint beneath it. That was a nightmare!

I swapped to frog tape which seems to work well overall. It helps to read the label though. The green tape is if paint has had 3 days to dry. The yellow requires a minimum of 1 day. I haven't had any problems after 1 day with this yellow tape. Seems to work great and still give a clean line. (Again, read instructions and tips because you can negate some of the positives to the tape by human error.)

If you're having trouble with delicate surfaces, you might consider giving it an extra day or two, then using the yellow tape. Paint drying can vary depending on environmental conditions.

    Just my two cents though.
