5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good and faithful arcade translation., July 30, 2000

First caveats out of the way- if you're expecting a game based on the newer, modern version Hasbro released for PC and PSX, you'll be disappointed. This is a straight adaptation of the original early 80's arcade game, rather than an update. And, if you were disappointed by the SNES version, don't worry- the Genesis version makes up for it.

The box art for this (and every other Frogger game since the Hasbro Interactive version) is somewhat misleading; despite the modern appearances, this isn't a modern game. What it *is*, is a classic game from the early heyday of video games, done faithfully on the Genesis console.

It's surprising on several levels to see Frogger on the Genesis; Sega themselves were embroiled in a legal fight over ownership of Frogger, and lost- ending a rumored attempt in the mid 90s to convert Frogger to the system along with some other early Sega classics. This game also appeared a while after the Genesis platform "died"- IIRC this is the last standard commercial release for the Genesis- and came out with little fanfare.

Overall, the price is right, the conversion is faithful, and the game is a classic. If you remember Frogger from back-in-the-day, this is a great purchase. Plus, you can foist this upon your children as an example of what was fun when you were a child...

5.0 out of 5 stars Huh? What's THIS frog doing in the road?, June 10, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Frogger (Video Game)
What a very surprising release. You would think that Frogger would go under a transition with updated graphics and sounds as it heads to the 16-Bit Sega Genesis. But NOPE! It's that exact same arcade classic that you may have grown up with playing at the arcades! From my knowledge, no other game on the Sega Genesis has ever been a direct port of an 80s game (Other than Action 52's version of Pong, but that's an unlicensed game).

While it is a direct port to the Genesis, the traffic-dodging gameplay, the retrospective graphics, and the catchy tunes still hold up today. It's hard to dislike the game, considering the gameplay is just as addicting as when it was an arcade machine, even though this version was released in the late 90s (As late as 1998, in fact).

If you didn't like the Super Nintendo because it didn't have the nostalgia or charming aspects that you expected, then come on down to here, where you get the real deal. Better yet, if you like the classic Frogger at all, you need to buy this.

2.0 out of 5 stars frogger, May 7, 2006

If you like donkey kong, the one that was played on the first nintendo. This game is much like it and i think you would really like it. However donkey kong still has this game beat. I purchased frogger because i always remembered that it was always checked out when i went to the video store and i figured it must be good, but i am disappointed the graphics they are once again very comparable to nintendo. Sega games should be better than nintendo period, I have many sega games and have never encountered this before. Good thing the game was cheap :)
