Book Description

2 and up
Froggy is going to the doctor for a checkup, and he’s feeling a little nervous. “What if the doctor wants to give me a shot?” he thinks. He worries as he dresses and then he can’t sit still in the waiting room. Finally, it’s time to go in and change for his exam, but . . . OOOPS! He’s forgotten his underwear! And that’s just the beginning of Froggy’s hilarious doctor visit that ends reassuringly with a gold star and a lollipop.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Kids who go to the doctor for a routine checkup shouldn't worry too much. Unless they accidentally throw a paper airplane ("zwish!") into the doctor's eye. Or forget to wear underwear. ("Oops!") Or kick the doctor in the chin when she's testing knee reflexes with a little rubber hammer. ("Clack!") The beloved Froggy is his usual out-of-control self in Dr. Mugwort's office, and preschoolers pondering an impending doctor visit will be relieved to know it won't be too bad, might be fun, and could even involve a gold star or a lollipop. Jonathan London and illustrator Frank Remkiewicz disarm their young readers with giggles in books from Froggy Learns to Swim to Froggy Goes to School. Froggy's silly sound effects and slapstick antics guarantee a lively read-aloud. If laughter is indeed the best medicine, it's good to have a little Froggy on hand. (Preschool and older) --Karin Snelson --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

From Publishers Weekly

Ten years and 10 titles later (including Froggy Learns to Swim) a favorite amphibian is still kicking in Froggy Goes to the Doctor by Jonathan London, illus. by Frank Remkiewicz. Froggy's nervousness subsides and the check-up turns cheeky when he engages in his trademark antics.

5.0 out of 5 stars If You Like Froggy Books, This is One of the Better Ones, October 7, 2003
I feel a little sheepish giving this 5 stars. Frankly, I don't much care for the Froggy series. Here's the truth, though - it doesn't matter what I think. My 5-year-old loves all the Froggy books, and they serve as great motivators for him to continue learning to read.

I'd recommend this book over most of the other Froggy books. Froggy's misbehavior is (thankfully) not a major topic here, and the book conveys a useful lesson about doctors. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars ANOTHER KID FAVORITE, December 14, 2006
I am much like another reviewer here (Nelson). I do not really care all that much for the froggy books myself, this one included. BUT...the kids all love them! I have yet to find one young child that did not what this and the other Froggy Book read to them over and over and over again. This, as the other reviewer pointed out, is what counts. I must say though that I found this particular book rather good in helping children understand the process of going to the doctor. Most of them do fear it, just like Froggy, and this work points out the fact that most of these fears are rather unnecessary. I like that. Recommend this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ugh!, July 16, 2007

This review is from: Froggy Goes to the Doctor (Paperback)
I have a few Froggy books and can't stand them. (Got them orignially because my daughter loved frogs.) They have awkward text (ie: the augthor calls a saxophone a "sax" & I object to using slang at this young of an age; kids should learn the full word)and some of the messages are just strange as in this one where the doctor teases Froggy by making him think he's going to get a shot (and he's been worrying about whether he was going to get one or not already)-- she pulls out a needle, then says no, she was kidding. Yikes! Why in the world would a kid need to worry that the doctor is going to scare him with a shot??!! It's tough enough that at this age they are getting so many shots! I don't need a book telling my kid she should be afraid. There are so many other good books that I honestly wouldn't (and don't) waste my money on this series. I think they are poorly written in every respect. I don't recommend this or any of the Froggy books to anyone. While the kids do seem to like them, I think they won't be missing anything if these books don't make it to your book shelf.
