Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review
In Jonathan London’s latest picture book about the only too human Froggy (following Froggy’s First Kiss, Froggy Goes to School, and others), our floppy-footed hero experiences yet another first: a new sibling. Froggy waits eagerly for his brother to be born. When Pollywogilina ("you can call her Polly for short") finally arrives, Froggy gets over his disappointment at her gender, but quickly loses patience with her inability to do anything. He wants to teach her how to jump off a swing, bounce on a pogo stick, and catch flies with her tongue. "But Polly was too little." Will she ever be big enough to play?

Wise older siblings will be happy to inform Froggy that yes, one day Polly will be bigger and ready to be bossed around. Only children (or young amphibians) who are expecting younger siblings will be intrigued at the process of becoming a big brother or sister, and may even learn a little about patience in the process. And everyone will love watching Froggy's green cheeks turn red when his first diapering job doesn't quite do the trick! Frank Remkiewicz's cheerful illustrations capture the ups and downs of those early days with a squalling baby in the house--and an antsy big brother waiting for the fun to begin. (Ages 2 to 6) --Emilie Coulter --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

From School Library Journal
PreSchool-Grade 2-Froggy is excited about the upcoming arrival of a new sibling, but is disappointed when the baby turns out to be a sister rather than the brother he had hoped for. The story is appealing though a bit too long. While the repetition of sounds and the parents' calls for "Froggy!" will appeal to children, this adventure is not quite on a par with previous visits, such as Froggy Gets Dressed (1992) and Let's Go, Froggy! (1994, both Viking). However, it is sure to please this lovable character's many fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Froggy Book, November 11, 2006
By Joanna Morgan (Indiana, PA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
My children enjoy the Froggy books and my husband and I are always happy when we come across a new one. This book is another great Froggy book. It is a light read that is a feel good read too! My daughter could easily relate to how hard it was to wait for her baby brother to be old enough to play with so understood Froggy's feelings. As for Froggy wanting a brother and getting a sister, it was clear he loved her very much and once he could play with her he made no mention of wishing she was a boy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Story, November 2, 2006
By Lori Gordon "children's book maven" (Pearl River, NY United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
My 5 year old son borrowed this book from school and we read it together tonight. He has other Froggie books and really enjoys them. He enjoyed this one a lot too and asked me to buy it for him. We thought it was a sweet story. Yes, Froggie was disappointed when he heard he had a baby sister rather then a brother, but he couldn't wait for his little sister to be big enough to play with her and teach her new things. We thought the end was very sweet when mommy frog couldn't quiet the baby down, she wanted her big brother. Froggie was more then ready to go to his baby sister and comfort her. All in all nice story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for everyone, June 29, 2008
By ljs (Brooklyn, NY United States) - See all my reviews
A classic. Even if there is not a new little one on the way. Love when Froggy has to wait for his sister to loose her tail and grow legs so he can play with her! Great for 3,4,5 year olds to identify with and share what they know with the new little ones.

I recently read this book to my 3-year-old after she picked it up at the library. It's the story of how the main character, Froggy, deals with having a new sibling. Read more
