Another Great Froggy Book,
By
This review is from: Froggy's Baby Sister (Mass Market Paperback)
My children enjoy the Froggy books and my husband and I are always happy when we come across a new one. This book is another great Froggy book. It is a light read that is a feel good read too! My daughter could easily relate to how hard it was to wait for her baby brother to be old enough to play with so understood Froggy's feelings. As for Froggy wanting a brother and getting a sister, it was clear he loved her very much and once he could play with her he made no mention of wishing she was a boy!

My 5 year old son borrowed this book from school and we read it together tonight. He has other Froggie books and really enjoys them. He enjoyed this one a lot too and asked me to buy it for him. We thought it was a sweet story. Yes, Froggie was disappointed when he heard he had a baby sister rather then a brother, but he couldn't wait for his little sister to be big enough to play with her and teach her new things. We thought the end was very sweet when mommy frog couldn't quiet the baby down, she wanted her big brother. Froggie was more then ready to go to his baby sister and comfort her. All in all nice story.

A classic. Even if there is not a new little one on the way. Love when Froggy has to wait for his sister to loose her tail and grow legs so he can play with her! Great for 3,4,5 year olds to identify with and share what they know with the new little ones.

Pointlessly Negative,

I recently read this book to my 3-year-old after she picked it up at the library. It's the story of how the main character, Froggy, deals with having a new sibling. Froggy wants a brother and ends up with a sister - no doubt a situation some kids can relate to. My problem with the book is that it doesn't really resolve this issue in any positive way. Froggy makes negative comments that border on contemptuous - "A girl? I wanted a brother!" and "pretty good, for a girl." There is no resolution to his feelings - he never says anything positive about girls or changes his mind. The book ends with Froggy, the child figure, having to go take care of his baby sister in the night because his mama frog can't comfort her. There are so many good children's books out there - save your money for those.
