3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the first, but still amusing..., April 23, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Frogs! [VHS] (VHS Tape)
First, don't watch this movie until you have watched "Frog;" it will make no sense. This sequel is at times bizarre, and sometimes a little environmentally preachy, but still clever as a family film. I didn't see this movie until I was past 16, so it doesn't hold the fuzzy place in my heart that the first one did, but it does, in my opinion, round out the story line in a satisfying way. Occasionally Arlo's (the main character) inexplicable foray into preppiness is aggravating, but he eventually gets back in touch with his inner science geek (as I personally felt he must). There's also something innately amusing about watching a teenager run around town with a middle-aged lounge singer... While this movie is tragically missing the song "That's Amore," the music sung by the frog prince is still classically Italian. This film is for anyone who loved the first movie, likes talking frogs, or likes to see the geeks win. Though the characters are at the end of highschool, I doubt most highschoolers will want to watch this; it's probably generally best for a pre-teen audience.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wrong Movie -- Deceptive Title, April 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Frogs! [VHS] (VHS Tape)
From the title of the movie, and the comments of the reviewer from Dallas, Texas, on March 26, 1999, who obviously did not watch this particular movie, I believed this movie to be the quirky and entrancing 1970's horror film "Frogs!".

This review describes the horror film perfectly: It is so bad that it's good. Nature strikes back as a handful of people who are major disasters for the environment are harrassed and killed by endless waves of frogs, garter snakes, lizards, and even an alligator.

Be warned, however, that the present movie is NOT the 1970's horror film. It's some kind of Faerie Tale Theater stuff starring Shelley Duvall, a children's movie ("wholesome fun for the entire family!") involving frog princes, wicked witches, fairies, and the aches and pains of growing up and learning responsibility. It may well be a masterpiece of that genre, but it's not what I wanted to buy, and I'm not about to pay for it in order to find out.

Frankly, I feel cheated. Advertisements for movies which re-use previous names should make it clear which movie is being sold.

4.0 out of 5 stars A charming twist on a familiar tale, March 13, 2002
By
Amy Dale (Waterloo, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Frogs! [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Unfortunately the two reviews already written have nothing to do with this funny and quirky movie that was a delight to watch with my kids. The story line was familiar but with enough twists to make it interesting. The scene in the biology lab is especially rib-tickling. Obviously not the horror flick (you can tell from the video cover photo).
