Great for indoor cats to get their exercise.

It also moved too fast for the cat to see where it was, even on the slowest setting.
Lucca Q
It is much too noisy and loud, the cats did not like the noise.

We purchased this item after trying the amazingly disappointing FroliCat BOLT Interactive Laser Pet Toy. The BOLT is falsely advertised and moves very slowly in a small elliptical pattern. Our two cats thought was interesting but got bored with it before the timer was up. The DART appeared to be a better product and more fast paced.

The first thing you notice with the DART is the noise. It is loud and hard to ignore. The changing of the pattern, squeaking plastic parts and loud gears are enough to drive a calm person insane. Our cats enjoyed it enough that we have endured the horrible sounds. It does have several speed settings but unless you cat is also a ninja, you will not need the higher settings. As other reviewers have mentioned, the slowest setting is actually too fast.

After a week of use, the DART began to shut off abrubtley. Most of the reviewers who had this problem returned it only to receive another item that failed. So, I decided to take the risk and repair it myself.

FIX:
Remove the four philips screws on the bottom and you're in. First thing you will see are the cheapest, thinnest wires known to man. Seriously, I'm surprised this thing even lasted a week. On mine, the negative wire had detached from the battery compartment. On the negative lead, there was a large mound of solder, which was the source of weakness. So, not only are the components cheap and of poor quality, the product was also assembled in a shoddy way. Clean up and re-solder the wires and you should be back up and running. Our cats patiently waited and watched me as I repaired their favorite toy!

It was a quick fix but not one you should have to perform. The product is a great idea but the manufaturer compromised on too many things for me to recommend this product. (Unless you like do-it-yourself projects!)

I have two 2-year old cats, and they both love it. Any time I come within a few feet of it, they come running from the other room and sit next to it, waiting for me to turn it on. They'll chase it around for a few minutes, then sit and watch it for a few minutes, then chase it some more.

A couple of notes:

- Raise it off the ground to increase the size of the circle the laser light makes around it. I have an open space for it about 6ft x 6ft, and I found it's perfect when raised about 10-12" off the ground. I tried it out about 4 feet off the ground and the circle it followed would work great in a larger room.

- I set mine in a shallow clear plastic tub (it sticks out over the rim a couple of inches). This makes it less likely the cats will start playing with the housing and knock it over.

The toy does a lot, moves randomly, makes an almost 'purring' sound, and works as advertised, our cats just didn't really enjoy it after a while. They just sit close watching the turret turn and attack it.

Anyways, it arrived literally overnight with just amazon prime shipping. Ordered it one day, got it the next morning. I wish everything shipped that fast, but I think it only came from 2 hours away.

The design needs work but is a great attempt and we will keep it around to pull out for the kitties once in a while but it will not keep their interest for more than a few moments, and our cats love to play for hours and hours, just not with this.

Just got this as a gift, but disappointed with performance after 30 seconds.
As an electronics engineer I couldn't help but open it up to see if it could be improved.
Findings:
Great idea in concept but it is very very poorly built.....
Internal soldering is 1 step above spit and is bound to fail sooner rather than later.
Motor system is loud, "crunchy" and runs too fast for any cat to reasonably "play with"
Laser pointer contacts so poor there are large gaps in the rotation where the pointer doesn't work due to lack of power,

Conclusion:
Save your money, buy a $3 laser pointer and play with your cat, you and they will have more fun.

The first unit I received stopped working after less than five minutes of use so I exchanged it through Amazon. The second unit arrived a couple days later and that one failed in relatively the same amount of time. I attempted some basic troubleshooting to no avail. The product is simply not constructed well.

My female cat loves it and will play with it for quite a while. She has figured out how to turn it on and off. She stands on it, pushes the button with her paw and then they all congregate around it and chase the red beam. Pretty funny. I use rechargeable batteries now as she turns it on sometimes when where sleeping or working and drains the batteries if she doesn't bother to turn it off. I put new charged batteries in it daily. The first one of these finally crapped out after 3 years of pretty continual use. The other thing that needs to be mentioned is the noise. It really does make quite a bit of noise and sometimes makes watching TV very difficult. It makes this pretty irritating sound that makes me turn it off out of frustration, it can at times get really irritating. I put up with it because it really entertains the cats so much I put up with the sound of it. Overall, it's fun for them and keeps them busy while I'm eating. That's good enough for me and my girlfriend as our cats are now living together and getting along really pretty well.
