5.0 out of 5 stars Immovable our hope remains... April 17, 2012
Format:MP3 Music
Every day we live we breathe in the air of a fallen world; lies that obfuscate the reality of the one, true, eternal and living God. The world tells us that our hope is found either somewhere within us, or in our institutions, or the right spouse, or the right job, or a good psychiatrist, or philosophy or sports team. While hope can never be found in any of these, it is found in a Person. And that Person, Jesus Christ, has the power to change your life. His substitutionary death on a cross and resurrection from a cold grave are a finished work that has the power to transform us from sin-sick, worthless, miserable, unlovable wretches deserving of eternal hellfire into chosen, precious and beloved children and heirs of the almighty God. That Truth is unchanging, that hope is as glorious as it is unfading, that good news is a far greater reality than the oft turbulent woes, disappointments, persecutions and failings of this unstable and heartless world.

Songwriters throughout history, though separated by the distance of years of historical context, have nonetheless received, applied and conveyed this marvelous truth in remarkably similar ways. This album beautifully mines the work towering hymn writers such as Topaldy, Luther, Wesley and Bonar, powerfully reminding us that truth knows no seasons. The same promises that they stood on hundreds of years ago are still as fresh and relevant today as they were back then. When will there ever be a day when the church does not need to hear things like,

"The Lord acquits, who can condemn? Though Satan's accusations fly
His pow'r can never reach our names To blot them from the Book of Life
The Son has surely made us free
His Word forever stands
And all our joy is knowing we
Are graven on His wounded hands" (from the track "Immovable Our Hope Remains")

or

"`Tis Christ who saved me from the depths
God's pardon I've received
I'm washed within His precious blood
My heart is sprinkled clean..." (from "Nothing that My Hands Can Do")

?

That is Truth of old that we walk out our days resting in and live eternally standing upon.

But there's more...

These same truths are echoed in strophic sweetness by Sovereign Grace's gifted team of songwriters. Rarely will you find in modern Christendom songs so appropriate for the corporate worship context as those that are produced by Sovereign Grace. It is therefore (likewise) not difficult to imagine the likes Isaac Watts or John Newton joyfully singing along with us in a chorus like,

"You are the glorious Christ The greatest of all delights
Your power is unequaled Your love beyond all heights
No greater sacrifice Than when You laid down Your life
We join the song of angels Who praise You day and night, Glorious Christ" (from the track Glorious Christ by B. Kauflin)

or

"Jesus, it fills our hearts with wonder
That You would leave Your heavenly place
To take on flesh to thirst and hunger
To save the ones who spurned Your grace
You came to forfeit every mercy
To die that mercy we would find
And then You hung alone in darkness
So in our hearts Your grace would shine" (from the track, "Father, How Sweet by M. Altrogge)

Truly we have an awesome God, who does fill our hearts with wonder at his saving grace and steadfast love and mercy. And, we need to remind ourselves of that reality again, and again, and again. To this end, you will not go wrong in downloading this great album.

My favorite Sovereign Grace cd to date. The music itself is really well done and as usual the lyrics are solid and creative. I have recommended this cd to everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite SG Album! April 10, 2013
Format:MP3 Music
This is my favorite worship album not only by Sovereign Grace, but of all Christian albums. The lyrics are rich, edifying, and moving. My favorite songs are Immovable Our Hope Remains, Abba Father, Father How Sweet, and Gladly Would I Leave Behind Me.

Jesus is lifted up high in this album. It's kind of crazy that this album came out a year ago this day.

Thanks to Bob Kauflin and the whole Sovereign Grace team for putting out an awesome worship album. I pray these songs would be played in many churches and homes in the decades to come. Praise the Lord!
