Book Description

April 11, 2006 1402739761 978-1402739767
Every woman wants to put her best foot forward - and avoid those dreaded faux pas that turn off employers and co-workers, dates and friends. Written with zest and humour, this female-centered guide makes good behaviour simple and fun. It explains everything a lady needs to know to feel at ease no matter where she goes - from a business meeting to a romantic dinner, from a rock concert to a fancy wedding. What's more, this unstuffy rule book enlightens its audience on issues specifically confronted by women, such as how to ask out a guy; how to navigate the world of women's wear, from sensible work suits to the little black dress; and what the proper protocol is for applying makeup when in public.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very useful December 10, 2009

People are judged by their actions and today it seems that good manners has been sorely neglected especially when raising children. This is a good book if you are looking to polish up your social manners which was why I bought it. I knew some of the information but there were social rules I wasn't aware of.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Contemporary Manners Guide January 27, 2013
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I suppose I'm what one might call a millenial. Materials on manners I read when I was growing up included (1) my mother's copies of Emily Post's Etiquette, (2) Miss Manners syndicated columns published in the newspaper, and (3) a manners books for elementary- and middle-school aged girls that included guidelines such as taking messages for phone calls before the prevalence of caller ID. However, I'm now a middle-class 20-something who finds myself using a cell phone from which I can access my e-mail at anytime--and so do the people around me!

As a relative newcomer to the "real world" as a young adult, I'm still considering investing in a more comprehensive etiquette book or two. However, I found the guidelines covered in this volume broad enough to cover most general situations in which I find myself nowadays. I'm quite glad to read tips for everyday situations such as looking presentable when running errands (lest you encounter a colleague or client from work) to advice on what a basic wardrobe for more formal occasions (e.g., ballet/opera/symphony orchestra performances, weddings, funerals, and more) should include.

For women my age, I'd say this book can be viewed as a good etiquette primer. I'm not sure what I'd say about this book for older women, however; this book might be too simple to women significantly older than I.
